I don’t know arguments might ensue. Kyle is really strict on arriving to little to no charge left and Kathy doesn’t like to risk it. Road tripping for as long as Kyle likes to do can be very tedious and stressful which in turn can make people more nervous and tired. Kyle might give a little out of respect for his mother but I don’t know. Nobody really knows these two people that well. I wouldn’t want to see a major disagreement between them on stream.
Enjoyed watching Kathy & Dave's perspective.in this video. As a native Massachusetts person who has lived in the Midwest for 25 years, I believe I said many similar things about the Midwest after living in New England,. Also, Culver's began in Sauk City WI, northwest of Madison WI. Culver's reminds me of Friendly's restaurants of the late 1970's and 80's except Culver's has custard, not ice cream.
The conversation that you had with OOS Mom about Autopilot was super real. She wouldn’t be so concerned about being tired if she actually used it so I agree with you. When I used auto pilot from Florida to Maryland, that 14+ hour trip was easily doable straight through and arrived and continued about my day as if I just went down the street.
Love watching the Tesla Colorado to CT road trip. That's my annual trip and seeing all the charging spots along to way brings back fond memories. I'll be doing it in the Lucid next trip. We'll see how it compares.
I’m 45 and remember when the original was demolished… my parents worked in television news in Nebraska, and that was big news then. We moved to Virginia when I was 7.
Nice 👍🏽hello from 🇳🇴🇳🇴🇳🇴 Dave why don’t you take a trip to Norway and see how the electric cars are so popular here. Whould be really nice to meet you here in Oslo, Norway
Dave Kearney Nebraska is were ev Dave and Kyle baught the Mach e in 2021 and Kyle drove it all over then ev Dave and Kyle took it back to North Carolina were Dave lives.
Dave, they are building a Buccees in Huber Heights, OH near Dayton. There is a Wally's (which is something like Buccees) in Pontiac, IL but I think Buccees is better.
Our used 2023 Model X Plaid, (same spec as yours besides the yoke) with 2,300 miles came with FSD. We've received the latest update and it works well. We received the free FSD for a month in our 2022 RWD Model 3 and it works really well there also. I think the interstate is where it really shines. Auto lane changes are fantastic. Great video Dave!!
I live in Minnesota now but spent much of my life in Iowa. I think the lack of dealerships in Iowa is a major factor to the slow adoption there. I live in the Cities now but feel like I still see a lot of EVs in more rural Minnesota & Wisconsin. But not having a presence to see the cars & hear about other's experience seems to have kept Iowa behind it's neighbors.
Boomer Dave you are at the top of your game. Consumption seems very high, but you roll in style so it's fine. Really enjoy your road trip videos...i found Kyle years back from his road trip videos which lead me to you. Out of Spec mom seems like good company.
Always enjoy your road trips. Could you say something about the ride quality in the X compared to Kathy's Y? Tesla gave me six months FSD on my 2023 X because it wasn't available when I first got it. I really liked it on road trips. It navigated through heavy Chicago Interstate traffic at night in the rain better than I could. I am anxious to try the new version of FSD because I didn't like the old one on city streets, and might be willing to pay the new $99/month if it works well. So far I have never had phantom braking in my X. Knock on wood. I just added a key fob to my X and really like the ability to close and lock everything with one push of a button. Rear passengers always have issues closing the doors when exiting. The fob fixes that.
Not only did I get a free month of FSD, but they also dropped the monthly subscription to US$99.00 per month. I believe they are dong this to give their Dojo computer much more data to enable better FSD performance before their release of Robo taxi and also to maybe gain some more FSD subscriptions and more income.
My model Y did this, but In the opposite direction. I would charge to 10% on arrival, and during my drive it would drop to -5% on arrival. I did a top charge to 100% and it seemed to clear it up. I dont think you have the same problem tho.
Well actually the amps is limited to 400 amps at many chargers. So if the pack voltage is only 360 volts X 400 amps, then the KW is limit is 144 KW, (360V X 400A) while at 400 volts X 400 amps, then the limit is 160 KW. Many chargers will allow more than 400 amps. Of course the battery management will also limit the amps on a very low pack, so it is not slammed with a lot of power at a low state of charge.
1:27:50 maybe the next time you’re curious about charging speeds and temperatures go into the service mode charging screen where the car will show you the battery temperatures.
I agree with Kathy. I’ve used adaptive cruise control on long trips and I’ll get tired. Especially if my wife is with me because she hates a lot of noise like music in the car.
Isn't having your battery charged to 100% and then just sittling there overnight a bad thing to do?? I was always told that if you charge to 100% (NON LFP batteries) that you should start driving almost immediately. What's up with that?
In just a short 170 years for the entire human history the inner Nebraska went from Pony Express to Tesla Superchargers. It is hard to imagine what will be changing in another stretch of 170 years.
Your X sure looks a lot like Kathy. 😅 26:00 death stare 😂😂 I would've just parked the car on the side and got out to walk around. Better to get your weather mats dirty than your car. Assuming you have some. You could always clean your shoes as well. 40:21 😂😂😂 oh Kathy you are too funny! 1:18:00 congrats!! 1:30:50 well diesel was less expensive several years ago. 😅 1:46:47 thank for sharing your trip and what a great start to the weekend!
I have a 2014 model S 85, planning on taking a road trip soon, it has about 236 miles of range on a full charge, and had a battery replacement about 57K miles ago
It is very difficult to avoid autopilot jail when cruising speed is set to 85 mph. I've done this many times and realize much how more difficult driving long road trips is without autopilot.
I am curious if you, Dave, kept the all weather tires tested by Kyle or you opted to reinstall the factory tires. I would think the Tesla Model X being used in New England might use the year round those all weather tires.
I do think the BMS protects the car when SOC is that low. Lowest SOC I have hit with 2023 MYLR is 6% and the car notified me when I arrived at home to plug in immediately. I also don't understand why the charging and navigation systems says you can continue your trip at a certain SOC say 58% with arrival SOC being say 10% knowing that higher speeds which everyone travels will result in real world SOC at arrival something below 10%, say 6%. So I also charge until I see arrival SOC at 20% or better to ensure I have enough buffer to compensate for traveling at higher speeds. I have also notice a number of times where my arrival SOC will drop dramatically when I leave a supercharger within the first 20 minutes of the drive. Then it will level off and maybe even gain a percent or two. At that point I am usually confident that will be the real arrival SOC excluding some unforeseen environmental factor like high winds, rain, snow, etc.
Hey Dave fantastic to see you and Kath back in your Model X again. At the 3:30min mark you have a text up talking about basic Autopilot but then mention no FSD on the 2023 Model Y is that for Kath's Model Y or did you mean your Model X? You broke the 85mph limit for AP. I don’t recall if that’s a strike or not. I’ve done it too for the very same reason. You just want to get past a vehicle and don’t realize you’re already going 80 mph.

Dave- Kyle should write a book about Tesla for dummies - I see you're navigating to the next supercharger and it pre conditioned for you. I never did that on my last roadtrip. I put in Dallas to Lincoln and it had me stop 5 times in 650miles -- it took so long at each stop I finally traded it in. Wish I knew a faster way to make this trip. Hey Dave, I think the 1 month FSD was for folks that have never experience FSD so if you have in the past maybe you don't get it ? I could be wrong but I though that was what Elon stated.
Dave, you should not top charge and let it sit overnight. It would have been better to stop at 90% for overnight then take in the last 10% while you grab breakfast in the hotel. That way you leave with a warm pack and you burn off the top 10% without much damage to the cells.

You are 100% right. As I mentioned on another comment reply, I was tired and this is not best practice. I should have showcased the right thing to do as you point out. However, I didn't. You got me! Thanks for watching! :)
My nephew was using adaptive cruise control on a trip to San Diego, with very heavy traffic for the last 20 miles. He said the adaptive cruise control was great and stress free, with the ability to not need to monitor the car in front of him so intently.
#1:GREAT VIDEO! #2:re FSD:I think it would be great on long roadtrips, also locally if possible. However like regular driving, you need to PAY ATTENTION at all times! Really don't understand why Tesla owners poo poo the "phantom braking" bugaboo. ONCE in a car ownership tenure would be too much for me - not how few times I might experience it during a trip.
