That was Tarja; Nightwish became a worldwide renowned band when she was Frontwoman. Their album "Once"(2004) was their breakthrough album, with "Nemo" being the hit single. The album was released in 2004, and it's still their most sold album to date, 16 years later, with 2.3 million copies sold worldwide. The concert you just watched from is titled "End of An Era", the last concert Tarja ever performed with Nightwish before she was fired, after 10 years as Frontwoman, via an open letter. If you'd be interested in more songs with Tarja, might I suggest:
"From Wishes to Eternity"(concert)(2002) - "The Pharoah Sails to Orion", "FantasMic", "Swanheart", and "Walking in The Air".
"End of An Era"(concert)(2005) - "Planet Hell", "Wishmaster", "Everdream", "Bless the Child", "Slaying the Dreamer", "The Kinslayer", "The Siren", and "Ghost Love Score (the crown jewel of Once)".
Once(album) - "Nemo", "Wish I Had An Angel" (2nd single of the album), and "Higher than Hope".
Century Child(album) - "End of All Hope," "Dead to the World".
Oceanborn(album) - "Stargazers", "Gethsemene", "Passion and the Opera (Tarja has performed this song live as a Solo singer)".
"Sleeping Sun"(1999 single) - There's a beautiful live rendition in the concert Live at Raumanmeri (2003).
They're on their 3rd Singer now, the highly regarded vocalist Floor Jansen. She's less Operatic, more Rock/belting. Is Tarja's worthy successor.

Anette in the middle did quite well in "Amaranth", one of my favourites.
(Adding the obligatory Floor is so great note. Not her fault Tarja just happened to be a freaking goddess.)

@@yksvaan1690 "Not her fault Tarja just happened to be a freaking goddess" Agreed. One of the most iconic Frontwomen of all time. The Escapist is even better than Amaranth imo, Anette gave Escapist her all.

This is the original Nightwish's frontwoman Tarja Turunen (the recent one is the third-Floor Jansen). She had 5 first Nightwish's album (1996-2005). Tarja's voice is more operatic than the other two. She was fired with an ugly open letter (for public to see) after this performance due to disagreement with the rest of the band. Since then she goes with solo career. Her other memorable song with Nightwish are "Sleeping Sun', "Siren", Wishmaster" (live from the same concert "End of the Era), Nemo (official MV or live from the same concert). Good reaction, thanks

Nightwish with Floor is a common band, nothing against Floor like her since After forever, but Tarja in nightwish was epic, never before was a woman in the metal, she was the only lyric and the heavy

Nightwish has 9 studio albums, and has had 3 female vocalists. The one you just watched is called Tarja Turunen. She is the original vocalist and has recorded 5 studio albums with the band. After that came Anette, who recorded 2 albums and then Floor, the current vocalist, who recorded 2 albums. The three vocalists have very different styles and voices. Tarja uses operatic vocals and her interpretations create a Gothic atmosphere. Perhaps that is why in the early 2000s some people saw a similarity between Nightwish and Evanescence, despite being bands with their own sounds. Nightwish, in Tarja's day, used to be a mixture of folk music, gothic metal, power metal and symphonic metal. With the departure of Tarja, the band changed its identity a little. The Gothic influence decreased considerably and that of folk and symphonic music increased. At the beginning of everything Tuomas (the composer) thought about creating a folk music band, but the group decided to become a metal band because of Tarja's powerful vocals. With her departure, I feel that the band has been striving to create a new identity and has been using more folk influence for that. With Anette, the second vocalist, the sound is already quite different. Anette has a more pop vocal, completely different from Tarja. I like it, although many older fans don't like it very much. I think Anette's voice is very beautiful, spetially on the studios. Floor, the third vocalist, explores both lyrical singing and rock / pop singing. She is amazing. Her lyrical singing is not as developed as Tarja's, but it's good too. Each singer has her own style and is good at what she does. There is a lot of cool music for you to discover, from all eras. I am a longtime Nightwish fan and, if you will allow me, I would like to give you advice on this journey. Don't listen to Floor or Tarja's fanatics, just appreciate what each of these singers added to the band's sound. Many times, a lot of time is wasted with unfair discussions about who is the best singer, instead of enjoying what each one of them has to offer. Big hug!

Hello @ The Wolfeden ! Nightwish fans here, your reaction just appeared on our radar..
Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band, performing back in 2005 in the"End Of An Era" concert, in Helsinky, Finland, with Tarja Turunen, the first female singer of the band.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
As I could see, you appreciated both the voices of Tarja Turunen and Marco Hietala, and the metal interpretation of this well known song. You felt their energy and their massive emotional effect on the people from the crowd.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals) - you just heard her. She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile).
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.
I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. They are unbelievable live. I want to warn you that Nightwish fans are hard core. So be prepared. lol "
Hope you'll continue this journey with us, so I'll drop here a list of songs with the current lineup of the band you may like:

Amazing reaction! Thank you very much The Wolfeden!
Tarja Turunen was the original Nightwish vocalist for almost a decade, defining a big part of their sound with her classically infused vocal techniques which combined perfectly with Nightwish's inicial power metal and later symphonic metal sound, and also with Marco's vocals, as you noticed it was a perfect match in every way!
The great thing is that Tarja has been having an amazing solo career in the last 15 years... Her voice is really high (her last note on this one is an Eb6), but also a full and really powerfull sound (and in her career she always keeps on experimenting new things with her vocals, including a haunting dark and lower register she can belt out), plus having this theatrical presence on stage... I'm really glad you liked it!
As a sugestion, I'll leave you 3 links for some essential Live performances by Tarja Turunen solo in recent years:
1st - A very energetic Live version of "Victim of Ritual" (song composed by Tarja)... the crowd really goes wild at this one - from Woodstock festival: ruclips.net/video/GxDnhbGTJSs/видео.html
2nd - An unbeliavable version of "Supremacy" (a Muse cover) Live at Hellfest festival - Very powerfull high notes: ruclips.net/video/wmMBI_0X3oE/видео.html
3rd - As an amzing follow up to the Nightwish video you just watched, here it is "Stargazers" in a Live performance where Tarja surpassed even hersef in the studio version from Nightwish's legendary "Oceanborn" album... its simply a Perfect and unmatched rendition: ruclips.net/video/2Hl2ibaUvcQ/видео.html (starting at 40.56min)
I hope you enjoy these ones as much as I do! Cheers! \m/ \m/

Welcome to the nightwish party! Glad you enjoyed this one :) These guys have been going since 1996, and they have had 3 singers over that time. This was their original singer, Tarja Turunen, and she left the band in 2005 (after this show in fact - LOOOONG story!). They have had 2 other singers since, and their current singer is Floor Jansen, who is a dutch vocalist and has been with them since 2012/13. Since you sound interested in getting into Nightwish and seeing what they are all about Ill give you some recommendations :
For Tarja - Anything from the 'End of an era' show from 2005 - Sleeping Sun, The Siren, Nemo (you might also want to see the music video for Nemo too!), Over the hills and Far away, Wishmaster, Planet hell, and the Tarja original version of Ghost Love Score, but also check out some of the studio songs they did with her :)
For Annette Olzon (2nd singer) - Scaretale, 'the crow, the owl and the dove', rest calm, sahara - studio versions with annette are best, there arent as many live videos for her as there are for Floor and Tarja
For Floor, check out pretty much anything from Wacken 2013, or Wembley or Tampere (both 2015) - Maybe start with Floors performance of Ghost Love Score, or Storytime :) They also brought out a new album earlier this year called Human :||: Nature which is worth checking out but maybe when youre a little more familiar with their earlier work :)
Enjoy the ride and have fun! :)

This is what many refer to as classic Nightwish with their first lead vocalist Tarja. All 3 of Nightwish's lead vocalists have been awesome in their own way bring a different sound to the band. I can highly recommend their newer stuff starting with their Wacken 2013 performances already linked in the comments. Also Marko you heard here is an amazing singer on his own. Try their cover of Pink Floyds High Hopes from this same concert ruclips.net/video/4oEDnVeYYyM/видео.html

Wow, so much support for Tarja in the comments, usually it's full of you have to do Floor, only Floor! I highly recommend Floor as well, but once you fall in love with her voice, don't abandon the Tarja stuff, it's their best music, IMO. "Ghost Love Score" from Wacken 2013 is the usual place people start, to get an idea of what Floor can do.

Since you have Roger Waters on the wall, you should definitely react to Nightwish "High Hopes" cover version, from this same concert. It's a Pink Floyd song as you propably know.
Nightwish doesn't do many covers, because they have 120+ own songs, and they are so good they have no need for covers. But this one is a must hear.
Believe me or not, many PF fans have said the Nightwish version is as good, or even better than the original!
After that I recommend you react to one of the songs from Wacken 2013 concert, where Nightwish performed in front of a crowd of 82 000 people. By then they had their 3rd female lead vocalist Floor Jansen on stage and she is something else, one of the best singers I've ever heard.
The one you just heard was the original female lead vocalist Tarja Turunen. A great vocalist also, but Floor is more versatile. "Ghost Love Score", Wacken 2013 is a wonderful example of her versatility. It's like 5 songs in one!
Nightwish is the most reacted to band on YT, with nearly 6 200 reactions to it's songs, GLS being the most reacted individual song with over 900 reactions to it. Check out "Masterlist Nightwish Reactions",
