This is one of those rare perfect movies. Everything clicks in National Treasure: the cast, the story, the pacing, the humour, the character chemistries...
I watch this one at the least once a year.
The sequel is quite good, too. You should put that one on your watch list as well.
Meh... it's mediocre at best.
Not as good as this one. I didn't care for the back and forth between Nicholas and his ex girlfriend.

I liked that there was more american iconic landmark monuments in it for sure!
The guy who looks familiar and you couldn't place him is Sean Bean. You saw him as Boromir in The Fellowship of the Ring (he was the guy who got shot over and over with arrows) and as Odysseus in Troy (the king who had the idea of sneaking into the city in the giant wooden horse).
Oddly enough, Diane Kruger (the main female character in this movie) was also in Troy. She was Helen.
This is also one of the few movies in which Sean Bean plays a character that survives to the end (and past the end).

I love this movie to death! National Treasure and Night at the Museum came out at just the right time in my life as a kid and were a strong influence in my decision to become a history major. What a domino effect!

This is one of those movies that’s very re-watchable - it’s just so much fun! I, too, am a big fan of Riley and love the sarcasm.
This was a surprisingly good movie- better than I thought it would be. It's in the adventure movie vein of Indiana Jones and The Mummy with a little bit of Davinci Code puzzle solving..
yeah, i was surprised the first time i saw it as well. very reminiscent of Indy and The Davinci Code, just without the Nazi killing.
Honestly, it was the spiritual successor to Indy that I never knew I needed. I'm such a big nerd for it that on my first visit to New York, I had to take a selfie standing under the road signs at Wall Street and Broadway

I love this movie so much !! My son would get out of going to bed on time my asking me “ Mom do you want to snuggle and watch the Treasure movie?” Worked every time . Now he is an adult and doesn’t need to snuggle with his mom, still love this movie.

This movie genre can get a little goofy, but they pulled this off so well! Everything from the storyline to the music score to the chemistry between all the actors, (which is the most believable part to said story😂) they just crushed it. 10/10 every time.
The bad guy is played by Sean Bean, who was Boromir in Fellowship of the Ring. He's been in a LOT of stuff, he's particularly well known for dying a lot in movies. He's not a fan of that. :) He's also the lead in the BBC produced TV series "Sharpe".

This movie is always a blast. Well paced, so even at the length of the movie it goes by real quick, the story is fun, history is a blast, and the characters are great!

Nicholas Cage's real last name is Coppola. He had a brief scene in "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" credited under his real name. His uncle is famed director Francis Ford Coppola ("The Godfather").
I am not a fan of Nic Cage's monotone acting. However, he was in one of the greatest action movies, one which, aside from "Die Hard," I never get tired of watching. That movie is "Face/Off" co-starring John Travolta. I can't recommend it enough.
Nicholas Cage chose his stage name as a tribute to Marvel Comics character Luke Cage. He came up with it because he wanted to succeed on his own terms, not because he was related to Francis Ford Coppola.
Fun fact he actually won an Oscar for “Leaving Las Vegas”

As a Brit I was so pleased with myself, the first time I saw this, realising the password was Valley Forge ... but I knew it only because of the SF film Silent Running 😆 This is a fun very re-watchable movie.

I remember going to DC in the 8th grade and my entire class went to see this. The next day, we got to go to the museums and our teachers all said "Do NOT try to do anything you saw in National Treasure" lol
You're our national treasure, Ashleigh! I swear I scrolled to see if anyone else had already said that, and saw nothing.
Considering how much money it costs to build a new country in a massive wilderness, I feel like any treasure the founders had would have been spent pretty quickly. I know they sold land instead of collecting taxes for a long time, which fueled our expansion, until we ran out of land and had to start taxes again, but a huge treasure would have helped a lot.

I was gonna say, if Blake wants to experience movies with you first time watching, he’ll just have to be on the channel more. Or he can watch with you for the second time. I get it, I loved everything about acting until the director told me to (do my own thing) while blocking a scene. I got so angry for a moment “I’m supposed to make some movement (blocking) while staying in character and out of the way on stage?” I didn’t like it but I got through it and wouldn’t really like to do it again. 💯
The Declaration of Independence, Constitution, Bill of Rights and the Magna Carta are all housed at the U.S. Archives museum in D.C. Each night when the museum closes, they really do go down into a deep vault in a similar way depicted in the movie. It’s very cool. And I highly recommend visiting that museum - standing in front of those documents is an amazing experience!
I stood in front of those documents while stationed in Norfolk/Virginia Beach area from 1989-2003. My 5 times great uncle, Thomas Stone's signature has faded over time...

Also, that scene in Independence Hall, where Ben says, "The last time this was here, it was being signed" really hits home for me. My wife and I toured Independence Hall, and I swear, I've never felt the weight of history from a place so strong as I felt it in that room. It really is an awe-inspiring place. Been there often. I live just 60 miles North in Allentown, where they hid the Liberty Bell from the British. There is a Liberty Bell Shrine with an exact Replica in the basement of Zion Church where the Bell was hidden!
Love that. Looking forward to finally visiting sometime and feeling the awesome weight of our country's inception.
I love this movie. Went to see it on a whim when it first came out and it was SO FUN. The whole theater cheered at the end.

This movie is the definition of FUN. It's an absolute blast. Adventure, humor, history. I love it. I also think the casting decisions were great as well. I'm so glad you were able to see this and perfect for right before the Fourth. I also cannot wait for The Sandlot. It's one of my all-time favorite movies since I was a kid.
Great family adventure series! I do enjoy finishing a film feeling thoroughly entertained then realizing... "Hey that wasn't graphic, gory or vulgar at all!" It's always refreshing when that happens 😂

The National Treasure stream show on Disney+ already went the feminist, anti-white route. If they're planning on making National Treasure 3 and not including Nick Cage or any of the originals, then I have to imagine it's because they're doing the same.
This movie was shown in many American History classes in the early 2000's. There is also a part 2 that you could do as well.
The sequel sucks, though.

A little story: This evening as I was sitting in my recliner, I nodded off after I had made a queue of YT videos. Only to be awakened by Ashleigh's laughter. Ashleigh, who has been my adorable guide through many movies. Her laughter instantly made me very happy because it recalled that long association. I enjoyed her being my adorable guide for the rest of National Treasure. Thank you for that, and for all of the joy of our long association.
This is a movie I consider perfect. Even with any and all flaws because it is just a damn fun ride and you don't care. It embraces its silliness and just goes hard into the world it creates.

Dave is awesome! You should do more films with Kevin Kline. You've seen A Fish Called Wanda, now you should do the sequel, Fierce Creatures. Then add to your watch list In & Out, Silverado, A Prarie Home Companion, January Man, Grand Canyon, Pirates of Penzance, Midsummer Nights Dream, Emperors Club, The Big Chill... so many to chose from!
Also, he voices Mr. Fischoeder in Bob's Burgers, so there's that.
Kevin Kline is sorely underrated. Silverado is one that I have been begging for. No spoilers about who for Ashleigh’s sake. But such an amazing all star cast!
The patriot would have had you in TEARS for like 80% of the movie. This was a more cheerful lighthearted choice 💙❤️😂

I remember seeing this in the theater with my mom on the day after Thanksgiving. We didn't intend to watch it, but the movie we had gone there to see was sold out. We both loved it, and we were glad we saw it instead of the other movie.
Dave is another very funny movie as well! I hope you do watch it sometime. Another presidential comedy I think you'd enjoy is My Fellow Americans. It's hilarious and has a lot of familiar faces in it. 😄

Watch "How to train your dragon." All three of them. I watched them last week, and my goodness me, what a great bunch of movies. I'm not a huge animation fan, but these movies are really amazing. Heartwarming stuff. You may even shed a tear or two.

It was humbling, once, when my aunt informed me that the table we were sitting at, in a restaurant, matched the location on a painting that depicted the clandestine meeting to draft the DoI.
I legitimately love this movie and the second one. It mixes conspiracy and history perfectly while being big and grand.
OMG. Wifey and I LITERALLY watched this the other night (at her request, since she’s never seen it from beginning to end).
One of a handful of films I enjoyed as a child that my Millennial adult self still enjoys and has also aged surprisingly well.
Honestly, it’s better to me than its sequel, Book of Secrets. Book of Secrets was too focused on spectacle instead of intrigue, and isn’t paced as well, despite being effectively the exact same length, +/- 5 minutes or so.
Also, trivia I just recently learned: Nicholas Cage is not (exactly) his birth name, and he is of German, Polish, and Italian descent, which explains quite a bit!
Great Reaction vid. Hard to go wrong with Nick Cage, Jon Voight, and Sean Bean. I think the writers deserve tons of the credit here as well as the sound and music design. Often times, movies like this are too hard to follow and understand but this one has a lot of explaining in the scenes and dialogue so we can stay on track. This is more of a note to the editor: The movie soundtrack output is noticeably less than Ashleigh's reaction track, meaning I need to constantly adjust the sound to get some kind of reasonable balance between the two. Balancing the two so the loudness is the same between movie sound and Ashleigh should be very easy for an editor. Also, the sequel is well worth watching. Maybe your Mom knows about it and has seen it?

I saw a documentary about how the Declaration is preserved and is so staggeringly fragile. It makes this movie so much more hilarious when you see how harshly it is treated...

When I first watched National Treasure I had never been to America, but after I visited many times, when I rewatch this I keep going "been there!" just like Ashleigh. I've been to Washington, the Intrepid Museum in NY, seen the Trinity Church, the North End of Boston... I just need to visit Philly next.
Every individual that signed their name on the Declaration of Independence was putting they and their families lives in Jeopardy. It was an act of defiance against the British crown. John Hancock wanted their to be no doubt that he signed it. Written larger than anyone else as a thumb in King George's eye. Today we would call that sticking it to The Man. 😂
Ian Howe played by actor Sean Bean. You may have seen him as Boromir in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings or as Ned Stark in Game of Thrones. 😅

The detective was played by Harvey Keitel, who was also the detective in Thelma and Louise. You've also seen him in From Dusk Till Dawn (the preacher) and Pulp Fiction (Winston Wolf).

I cheered at Rear Window, it nothing else you are going to adore the clothes, but I do think you'll enjoy it. I've lost count of how many times I've watched it.

10:40 The actress's name is Diane Kruger - she's from Germany, she went to England to become a ballet dancer but had a bad leg injury. She ended up going to France to become a model and now she's an actress, she speaks English, French and German (of course) fluently.
Her training as a dancer makes sense once you see her arms, very thin but very strong. I saw her dance in another movie once and there's still something about the way she moves her arms that says that she had training.

I've always been disappointed that Christopher Plummer (the grandfather) didn't have more of a role in this movie. The man was/is a legend, and he's one of my favorite classic Canadian actors (along with Donald Sutherland).
He's a multi-award winning theater, film and television star, who's been in many big big shows (like *The Sound Of Music, Malcom X, The Inside Man,* the Pixar film *UP,* and many many MANY more.)

I love this movie so much!! It is the perfect mix of history/trivia, comedy and action. My dad is a huge history buff and I can remember going to see this with him in theatres as a kid.
