I haaaated this when I first heard it 😂 it drove me crazy but now I can appreciate it so much! I love it. So unique and his voice is great! I love how Serj was influenced by Mike Payton.. One of the best most interesting male vocalists. 👍🏼

almost every song of theirs is like a miniature rhapsody with three or more distinct sections they move through. It's a band you can never really get tired of.
And yeah, they're middle eastern (Armenian)-- there's a lot of influence from traditional music in their melodies and Serj's vocals, which is part of what gives them such a unique sound that you don't hear anywhere else.

FYI: This song was originally called Suicide. The record company wouldn't allow it. So they started calling it Sui and would joke about how they chopped the name. That evolved into the band calling it Chop Suey and eating chop suey in the video.

I know nothing about System of A Down but I discovered this song years ago in a Final Fantasy AMV and I instantly loved it. So unique, powerful, and emotional!
A lot of metal bands have songs with this type of duality to it. Clean vocals and grunts/screams/growls. Another one I would recommend is a band called Ignea (from Ukraine) with songs like Disenchantment, Jinnslammer or most recently Magura's Last Kiss. The singer is a woman in this case, but also with clean vocals and growls.

Sooooo much talent is in SOAD! You have to check out more as they are truly unique artist. Talent in writing, sound and vocals and keeps you on your toes. I highly recommend Spiders, Sugar, BYOB, Aerials, Question, Hypnotize, Lonely Day, Lost in Hollywood and so many others.

I recommend aerials, it's one of my favorites
Their record company actually rebelled against the name because right before the album was to be released the 9/11 terrorist attacks happened and the lable heads at the record company thought it would be way too insensitive to have that title. Radio stations also banned the song due to them deeming it insensitive in the wake of 9/11.

c'est pas ma came mais t'as vu ce qu'il nous a fait cette semaine c'était l'horreur! Surtout ce vendredi et en tout on a que de la vieille chanson française le pire étant vendredi! Je trouve qu'il est allé trop loin pour cette bande de vieillards qui doivent être dans la maison de retraite car si tu y regardes bien à l'international ils ont eu 4-5 titres des 80's et nous que dalle vraiment la honte!
