    Thanks for this, good stuff. I have been vegan for over 3 years, I only have good results. Blood pressure 110/70. No health issues , active and friendly. Sometimes I hear "where do you get your protein?" The largest land animal we know of to date was called Argentinosaurus, it had a femur as big as a car. This creature as far as scientists can determine by the fossil record ate only a plant based diet. It had huge muscles built from massive amounts of protein I would imagine. The myth that only the flesh of animals can produce enough protein to build muscle is just nonsense now. Just do a little research, or ask an elephant, rhino or gorilla "where they get their protein?" Oh I am 59 years old too.

      ***** Actually that is quite debatable, feel free to look it up if you like. I myself read up on it quite a while ago, and there are a host of different explanations/reasons as to why he would not have/did not eat meat or fish. Some ranging from poor translation to outright forgeries(one must remember the bible has been manhandled and reworded to fit agendas for years). For example, some scholars maintain that the Greek word for "fishweed"(seaweed), has been mistranslated as "fish", in the story of Jesus's post resurrection consumption of fish. There is also reason to suggest that Jesus may have been an Essene, who where a group of Jewish ascetics that were vegetarian and vegan. Anyway, there are many reasons as to why one should not assume that just because the bible says Jesus ate meat and fish, many many years after said event would have taken place, that it must be true and is therefor justification to do the same.

    • @316ken
      @316ken 10 лет назад +1

      Dear TCC,
      So; "some scholars" believe Jesus fed the 5000 with loaves and FISHWEED.
      Do they also suggest that He ate Passover LETTUCE instead of Lamb?
      Jesus ate meat AND fish. He multiplied bread and FISH (Mark 6:41-43)
      So He wasn't encouraging anyone to be vegetarian! He also told His followers to eat whatever food was served to them...
      "And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you." (Luke 10:8) If “such things” include meat or fish, how can a Christian vegetarian possibly obey the Word of God?
      Pick apart your food by all means, but do NOT pick apart God's Word...
      "It is forever settled in Heaven." (Ps.119:89)

    • @matthewsmith5614
      @matthewsmith5614 10 лет назад

      ken rodway Some people believe that Jesus actually multiplied the dried seaweed(fish weed), and it surely would seem more likely in a basket of bread. Especially since fish weed remains a popular dish among Palestinian peasants, to whom Jesus would have been speaking. And besides if He did serve fish, why then did his disciples not offer to go catch more? After all they were fishermen, and were right by the sea. Surely some of the 5,000 there were also fishermen, and yet no one had the idea to go catch some more fish, it wouldn't have been that inconvenient would it? However, if they had fish weed with them they would not have been able to go get more, as it would need to be dried, so they asked Jesus how they would feed the people with only some bread and dried seaweed. Oh and before i forget, about the lamb. If i recall correctly the Bible doesn't say that Jesus ate lamb or goat, but merely that he participated in the Passover, also it says He ate the bitter herbs and bread and what not that is associated with Passover but it makes no mention of Him actually eating lamb(i dont have a bible handy at the moment however). I believe the only time the Bible ever outright says he ate any flesh was in regards to eating the fish, which i've already explained my reservations about. Now, if I may ask you a question, where do you believe Jesus was born? Bethlehem, Nazareth, or somewhere else? Because while it is clear what the biblical stance on the subject is, there are also some things historians have discovered. The most important of which is that no such census was decreed around the time of Jesus's birth, and furthermore, such a census would be logistically impossible. The idea of millions of people uprooting their families and lives to travel hundreds if not thousands of miles to the land of there fathers with their belongings only to possible have to wait there for days, weeks, or months for a census taker to tally them and their possessions is completely ludicrous. The entire Roman economy would have come tumbling down, and i don't imagine to Romans would have even considered such an outrageous idea. The point i'm trying to make is that the bible is not the ultimate truth. It is rife with contradiction, hypocrisy, and discrepancies. The word of God has been tainted by man, and as a result the path to righteousness is now fraught with danger, and the bible is no exception. Also, if Eden, Gods perfect world was vegan as Genesis states, and Gods kingdom shall also be vegan(Isaiah ch. 11, one verse of which is 7 "And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox"), then why not try and strive for that? As the prayer goes "thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven". As Isaiah states, heaven shall clearly be vegan, so...why then would you eat animals?(i'm assuming you do). I am not sure if you are aware, as many people are not, but Jesus had a number of half siblings one of whom was James(James the Just). *Small side note, " you will go to James the Just, for whose sake heaven and earth came into being". Jesus said that.* The bible makes clear on James's stance on animal consumption, it states that, "he ate no flesh". Robert Eisenman, and American Biblical scholar and historian states in one of his books that, "who and whatever James was, so was Jesus". Anyway, sorry i'm ranting, almost done. I am a believer myself, and as a believer who does NOT ascribe to Pauline Christianity I am deeply saddened that the Bible has lost some of its truth due to mans selfishness and arrogance. But to assume that God did not allow man to taint his word and message is naive, the bible is a collection of books that were assembled and voted on by man. The most important book to our faith could have been voted out for all we know. For it is true that God has let man run his course in horrendous and unjust acts before, such as the martyrdom on the disciples, why should the bible be any different? The commandment "Thou shalt not kill", means just that. Don't kill. Killing by definition is to end somethings life, if one tries to state that, "oh, well...that only applies to humans", is not only arrogant, egotistical, selfish, and cruel, but also a prime example of species-ism. I do not feel that individuals who condone animal slaughter for food know the true loving nature of God. For while I use the word of God to spread a message of love, compassion, mercy, and equality to all beings; others use it to extol man as God's prize creation and by eating meat(and exploiting animals) they spread a message of cruelty, oppression, slavery, torture, misery, death, murder, disrespect and complete disregard towards God's creation. Finally, as a Christian, or Jew(or whatever you may happen to be) you have two options in life. You can respect and show love and mercy towards God's creation or you can choose to kill it, mistreat it, and take advantage of it. Why then do so many believers choose the latter? It is beyond me, i cannot fathom any rational or justifiable reason for it. But perhaps they choose it because of the selfish nature of man, they pick and choose the parts of Gods message to adhere to and make "exceptions" to those aspects that they don't care for. Proverbs 31:8 "Open your mouth for the mute, for the rights of all who are destitute". Ecclesiastes 3:19 "For what happens to the children of man and what happens to the beasts is the same; as one dies, so dies the other. They all have the same breath, and man has no advantage over the beasts, for all is vanity"

    • @beautifulminds6160

      the average american eats on average 30 grams of protein per day over the recommended intake. and, there are soooo many fruits and vegetables that contain protein. not to mention nuts, legumes, and beans. vegetarian/vegan for the win, not just for ourselves but the community earth and animals too!!

    • @jefflittle8913
      @jefflittle8913 9 лет назад +3

      ***** I agree. If you see a vegan, the correct question is not "Where are you getting your protein?", it's "Where are you getting your B-12 from?" I have been "mostly vegan" for the last couple months (occasionally a bread product or spaghetti sauce, or hot chocolate with small amounts of dairy or egg), but I probably wouldn't be doing that if I didn't have B-12 supplements available. Paleo man got B-12 from unchlorinated water, which can be an issue because that's also where he got cholera.
      It is actually probably best to limit your intake of methionine, which you find the most of in meat protein. Apparently you get a lot of the benefits of caloric restriction by just restricting your sulfer-containing amino acids, especially methionine.

    She's needs to due a bit more research. Nothing about the added sugars to most of the food we eat how the sugar alters the bodies regulation of insulin.
    The added sugar has a hormonal response which produces excess insulin, acts as an anti appetite suppressor and causes irritable bowel syndrome.
    Dr. Lustig from UCSF Medical Center has research showing how the intake of different types of sugar affects insulin production and weight gain.

      You have not familiiarized yourself with the of medical research on vegan diets and reduction in Diabetes, Heart Disease, etc. Read Dr. Neal Barnard, Dr. Dean Ornish, Dr. T. Colin Campbell, Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, etc. I don't really like this presenters style of talking but plant based diets do reduce many medical problems. Check out the research

    • @passedhighschoolphysics6010
      @passedhighschoolphysics6010 10 лет назад

      Is it a vegan diet? Or the reduction of added sugars in your diet when change your diet?
      Take a look at Dr. Lustig's talk on how the human body processes sugar. Dr, Lustig has been treating patients at UCSF medical center for over 20 years and has shown it's the added sugar in our food that's responsible for high rates of diabetes, heart disease, obesity, etc.
      Switching to a vegan diet just changes what you eat and eliminates the added sugar from you diet.
      Not sure if in your vegan diet you eat fish? If so you should know farmed fish, including the farmed fish in the open ocean are feed chicken parts. (Feathers, beaks, and chicken feet. So in eating wild raised fish you are really eating chicken too.

      +9fifty5 Lol, that made me chuckle over my coffee this morning. I've been thinking about the fact that it's also a "restrictive" diet. Apparently to be successful vegan you must also restrict protein and fat. Exclusionary and restrictive. Sounds like a lot of fun. It would be well and good if it actually promoted good health and longevity but the evidence doesn't look so good, brain health being a particular issue.

    I had to stop watching half way through. Message is fine, 'Whole food plant-based diet solves many problems'. However, the camped-up ultra-theatrical TED delivery made me cringe. I'm sure she's a lovely person with good intentions but this was like a West End theatre production. Why do these TED talks have to turn into an amateur dramatics production? I was expecting a song as well. It's pantomime. Just walk on, say what you're going to say in a normal way, and then walk off. Annoying.
