LKY speech is wholeheartedly passionate, enduring and with determination and that was a great leader SG had, what if LKY was the PM of MY instead of Tunku? MY today would entirely different from what MY are today.

For the upteemp time. LKY's mother tongue was Malay. He grew up in a household where all the people speak this language all the time. His mother , grand mother aunties uncles and cousins. His faciltiy with Malay indicates that he speaks this language naturally without accent and the choice of words he used were what educated Malays of his era would use. We should marvel at his Hokkien speech instead as he only leant it as an adolescence or adult.

haha HistoryBro what are you doing here? It is a slight hokkien variation in accent. haha Wisdom and Courage. Wisdom alone is not enough, we need the courage to do the right thing. what is the right thing? We are going to build a multi races, multi languages and multi cultural society that integrates well. If we succeed, it would be an example that others envy beyond our borders. That is 1966. In 1965 US just passed voting rights act for African American, India and Pakistan still fighting wars on Hindu or Muslim states, Middle East are trying to wipe Israel off the map, yes, 1966 Singapore is talking about building homogenous society with meritocracy regardless of race, language or religion. This is democracy. A government voted in with universal suffrage of all races, men and women. What DPP has done over the years to separate the locals and immigrants, Mandarin speaking or Hokkien speaking, etc has eroded ROC unity and identity so much so that, we are not quite the same anymore. 天佑中华。Wish you luck in the coming elections.

His Hokkien is not representative of the Hokkien spoken by the Hokkien people in Singapore at that time because he was a Hakka and learned the Hokkien language only when he was an adult. Many of the words he said were not accurately pronounced but still good enough for the majority of the Hokkiens whose accent are closer to Amoy( e-mui, 厦门)which we called 厦语.

The most important thing he did was to keep religion out of politics because he knew the toxic
Consequences which will result in very negative outcomes which will
Hamper progress and cause friction and fights among a multi racial and multi religious population with disastrous Consequences for thr nation
Also his many other policies which evoked much opposition and sometimes derision when introduced now in hindsight prove he was very far sighted ahead of his time
I could go on and on but I think I have made my point .
A really GREAT LEADER who lived to see his vision achieved

Mandarin and not English or even Malay will gradually assume the role of being Singapore's National Language in the years or generations to come.
There is an estimated 1.9 million Chinese nationals, legal or otherwise, residing and working in Singapore.
I know for I was there in 2018.
In every district of Singapore, you can bet on stumbling upon any PRC.
Just imagine if these PRCs were to be counted in the latest released Singapore Population census.
Singapore would have an overwhelming 85% Chinese majority!
