You were absolutely right. I started co-washing my beard with a conditioner for white and silver hair and within 3 days I noticed a big difference in the feel of my beard. Thanks for the information.
@greybailey I purchased Grandpa's Pine Tar Soap and have used it a few times to wash my beard and it feels so clean and soft afterwards. I didn't know that I should be conditioning everyday. I will definitely start doing that. I really appreciate the genuine reviews and your Beards without borders videos. Keep the beard knowledge coming!
Thanks for your videos- I have a 2 month old beard and it curls upward at the top of my jawline. I've been brushing the hairs to grow downward with little success. Im going to take your advice and just let it naturally form as it grows longer
Started co washing and its great, also embraced the Apple cider vinegar rinse after a wash. beard is feeling and looking great. literally, after taking your advise from one video, after a day, I subscribed to your channel and watch daily. Keep doing what you do.
I did what you said and I did the co washing with only conditioner 6 days a week and after that I used Grandpa's Pine Tar soap and I've for to admit my beard is fuller and thicker and is growing a lot better and faster. Thank you for saving my beard.
Hi George, I’ve been using your co-washing method for a week and the results have been amazing, specially in my mustache, i have a curly beard but now looks longer than before. Thanks and love your videos
I've only ever used Professor Fuzzworthy's Shampoo as I am still only a couple months into growing my beard out. I hope i havent ruined my beard by washing it 2-3 times s week with that. I have watched many of your videos and I know I heard you mention that Paul Mitchell conditioner. So far you haven't steered me wrong so Thanks for the good advice!
I missed this when it was published. Three days using conditioner and my beard feels fuller and softer. Baby shampoo is a great suggestion! Hard water doesn't let soap do its best, and baby shampoo has been recommended to me for years for keeping eyelids and lashes clean and healthy. Never thought to use it on my beard, though. I'll try it. Thanks, and peace!
Thank You George for this video. I've been using various all natural beard washes and also Dr Bronner's bar soap and my beard has been hard to manage. I also have hard water which doesn't help any. I do just so happen to have a VO5 coconut conditioner that I think I will try. I've been concerned that since its a product meant for your scalp that it may not work well for the beard. I will give this a try starting tomorrow.
Hey Sultan , I've started co-washing daily with Johnsons baby conditioner (I will knock it down to 6 days though) , I use Johnsons baby shampoo once a week . And once a month I use Dr.Squatch's pine tar soap for a good old proper cleaning. Co-washing is the game changer , the absolute game changer . Thanks for your great vids.
So last night i went an bought some beard shampoo and conditioner combo and some sandalwood beard oil Feelin a lot better today had a beard most of my life never new about this b4 thank u for your vid
Just bought a bar of Grandpa's Pine Tar Soap. I will try it tomorrow for my once-a-week cleansing I want to thank you for posting all that you post. I love your Channel and I hope this year brings you love and strength thank you again Robert.
I'm currently using Beardbrand's Blank Slate beard wash and softener and I love them both. only use them once a week. I appreciate this video though George and I'm going to try using conditioner everyday. I was under the impression that standard condition would also be harmful like shampoo. A local friend of mine makes his own soaps and beard oils and uses the soap on his beard and body every day. Guess it's working for him as he just won a national championship in Denver for the best natural beard with styled moustache. He runs Wild Hare Jackalope brand if you want to check him out.
I started using nothing but beard conditioner in my beard. I can't believe the difference in it. It's more softer lays very nice and straight on my face!
Great videos! I just recently subscribed, and I've got to say that you've changed my beard struggle into a beard lifestyle. But, now I have a question about beard cleaning: What should I use to get cigar and pipe smoke smells out of my beard? I personally love the tobacco smells that linger on my face hair, but others occasionally find them offensive. What should I do?
Try out Eden Bodyworks Coconut shea co-wash! roughly 9 dollars for a 16 ounce container. Mr. Bruno recommended it to me himself. I've been using it for about a week and a half now and it's done miracles for my beard! I hope this helps anyone that still had questions.
George, I started using the Grandpa pine tar soap and yes your so right how it makes your beard feel so clean and soft. little confused about the conditioner deal? So we should be conditioning our bead everyday? And what product (conditioner, have the Paul Mitchell, The Conditioner), should we use? Just a couple questions, thanks for making the beard life so wonderful and fun, and not a chore. Take care, peace, and God bless my brother....
Have you ever tried any of the hudson made soaps? Really enjoy the way that brand leaves my beard feeling but I've also been curious about grandpa's pine tar soap, heard a lot of good things about it. Just curious if the grandpa's soap would be a huge improvement over hudson.
For cleaning my beard once a week, is Grandpa's Pine Tar "Shampoo" as good (or the same) as the "Soap bars"? Love all your beards, along with loving your videos. From one George to another... Thanks
Been daily conditioning for at least a month. It is somewhat better, but are there some beards that are just not going to be soft? I fear mine is one. I oil several times a day and am now experimenting with balms. The beard is stiff so control is not an issue. Anyway, great tutorials.
Totally agree and follow with no shampoo, or just once a week, but what conditioner or type of conditioner do you use or recommend. As always, peace be with you bearded brethren.
Good morning from cold, wet,Melbourne Australia George! My daughter bought me for Fathers Day a beard 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner...made in Oz...and it foams up like sea foam! Lol!
George ... A few questions for you. 1.What do you recommend for getting your beard to grown thicker where your soul patch is ? ( I can't seem to get it to fill in all the way). 2. It seems like my beard is kind of brittle. Especially combing through unless its wet fresh out of the shower and also a lot of split ends.. I use beard oil 2 times minimun a day.... could it be from adding too much beard oil ? Keep up the great work I think i speak for most of the beard brethren love the videos and keep up the great work ... Keep the rubber down...
thanks George! i have used grandpas before, and another i dont recall the name of, i felt that they didnt work as well as i hoped, BUT i've used neutrogena t-geL for 23 years on my head and after reading an article in my mens health magazine about men with extra oily skin and the oil interacting with skin bacteria, thus creating itching and flaking to try a dandruff shampoo on the beard ... after doing so i had immediate relief and continue using it that way, sometimes every day, somtimes 3 to 5 times a week. do ya think thats overkill? am i just tricking my skin into creating more oil? it seems be what my beard likes. i'm going to try your cowash method (i have beard brands urban garden cond.) but so far, everytime i try a new method i end feeling greasy, itchy and flaking and go back to the t-gel, i just worry if t-gel is dangerous? you know how they like to say coal/tar based soaps & shampoos are cancer causing
yeah I currently use Dr. bronners magic soaps they have natural ingredients like organic jojoba oil and almond oil. Here lately I been using the eucalyptus and the almond hemp they smell pretty good and seem to make the beard soft too. Have you by chance heard about this company George?
I'm going do this co-washing method and give an update. I'll check, but if you don't, I'd enjoy seeing you talk about overall personal hygiene rituals, from skin treatment to hair...you talk about co-washing every day, do you shower every day? I'm gonna be mining your channel for the foreseeable future..lol. I'm actually excited. I'm sure my wife will appreciate the benefits from some of these tips.
Couldn't agree with you more on not using beard shampoo. i was using beard shampoo and beard conditioner for about 6 months and always realised my beard would become really dry and brittle. After i stopped using the shampoo, my beard hair became healthy and never dried up. It also made it my beard hair become more refined and healthier.
+Gray Bailey Hey fellow beardmen. love the content you put out👌I know alot of ppl been asking what type of co- wash or conditioner would you recommend? Thanks appreciate all the videos!! beard on!
I have just bought a cowash and used it for the first time today, but I think I over did it a bit and put too much on thinking it was just like shampoo, I presume you only need a small amount .... My question is ,that once you have rinsed it out , do you still use Paul Mitchell leave in conditioner ? Many thanks George for all your advice it's a great help. Peace to you 🙏🏼👊
George, I recently watched 2 different videos by 2 different RUclipsr's saying that you should comb your beard in the shower while the conditioner is in. I heard hair is weak when wet. I've been doing it with my Chicago #8 comb and it does help with the tangles and I do it very gently so I'm not snagging any hairs. What is your opinion on combing in the shower with the conditioner? Thanks Sultan.
George - really miss your big beard but also like your short/tight beard of today. I'm starting my yeard again and had some left over beard wash from last 8 month attempt. How about when you've been working out or doing yard work (firewood season is approaching) or when chicken wings are too irresistible. Are there beard washes that could be used more than once or twice a week that you'd recommend? Thanks in advance!
George, when growing my beard out I like to use a good quality Shaving Soap to wash my beard. I have been doing this for years and have got great results. Softens the beard and is nourishing to beard and face skin. Any thoughts on this and have you used a shaving soap/cream yourself to use as a beard wash. May be something you could cover on a video.... Thanks.
Kiehl's Amino Acid Shampoo? A coconut oil enriched shampoo that cleanses and softens hair. What do you think of this product? I use it one time a week. (I'm a truck mech.) But I know you are right about Kiehl's Amino Acid Conditioner. Ive been using Their Midnight recovery concentrate. Think it does well. Realy like your videos.
Your videos have helped me tremendously, Thank you for that! If I am wrong I apologize but I never heard you say what kind of conditioners you recommend.
I use beardbrand beard wash and softener but not everyday maybe a few times a week and it makes it feel soft , clean and fresh... it's good but I wanted to find a soap for it
What kind of conditioner do you recommend using for the daily co-wash? I currently have Beardbrand's Beard Softener...would that work, or is there another one that you would recommend?
So....... what is a good conditioners/ beard softeners that you recommend? I saw on one of your videos you mentioned Paul Mitchell's The Conditioner, is there any others? By the way, I really appreciate your videos.
I also miss the long beard, but hey it's your life not mine and I totally respect your decision. I've always been able to grow goatee but thought a beard was impossible. Started watching your videos and following your advice including Grandpa's Pine Tar Soap and I now have a very respectable beard. I give you full credit for that thank you. I also condition frequently with coconut oil per one of your other videos. With great results! I noticed the grandpa company makes a pine tar shampoo and a pine tar conditioner do you have any opinions on those two products? If I switched I would use the conditioner daily in replacement of what I currently use and continue to only shampoo once a week.
George, being in the automotive field and with a 11 month beard, I find my self coming home very dirty everyday (dirt, rust, sand, oil, coolant), there's no way around it. In this case I'm shampooing everyday along with my head. Is this harsh on the beard? Thanks!
Does this work for short beards too? I do it every other day (mostly so I don't have to keep buying conditioner) and notice a small difference, though my beard is naturally straight.
As new products come out, do you feel that Grandpa's Pine Tar Soap holds up as better than Dr. Squatch's Pine Tar Soap? Have you A/B'd them, and what are your thoughts?
Been growing my grey goatee now since February and use beard oil and balm to do away with the itchies and chaffing (amen). I only wash once or twice a week with a mild baby wash (Eucerin) for the dirt etc.Twice a day I just rinse with warm water and pat-dry. My concern is that while I use Honest Amish classic oil and balm and use a Kent coarse comb, I lose 8-10 hairs each day while grooming?Normal? Or am I doing something wrong to weaken the hair bulb/follicle? Worried that the lost hair will outpace the new growth and the beard will thin out and start looking patchy ..btw I'm 54 Thanks for any constructive reply :)
Is a natural made bar soap okay for the beard? I have a pine tar bar from dr. Squatch that works well for the body but the lye that they use makes it foams up like crazy.
Hi George, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the use of polymers in conditioners.... I use a co-wash with conditioner mixed in (long time subscriber), however the conditioner has polymers - is this really bad for my beard hair?
Love the video! I just have one question, and i'm sorry if i didn't get it, but i'm italian so maybe it was me that just didn't understand: can i use ANY conditioner (in italian it should be called balsamo)? For example can i use the one that my girlfriend uses for her hair? Or do i need a different one? I'm asking because i know that the skin/hair in the beard area is different from the one in the hair area, and i'm wondering if it can have a negative effect. p.s. you are a life saver and guide :) Keep it up
I've got a 11" beard and the hair itself is very strong, takes a bit to snap one of the loose ones that come out. But I've been getting far too much shedding happening of ones that are less than an inch to the full length ones, it seems to be a follicle problem. I've watched most of you videos and subscribed to learn more as they happen but watching this caused me to wonder if using shampoo like I do and not conditioning a softer as you mentioned could lead to this. I live in Canada where it's dry and colder, could this play a part. Thanks for putting out the info, it's invaluable.....Dean Martens.
Been shampooing once a week, I make Sunday my day for this and only baby shampoo. With in 4 days the difference was very evident, fuller softer less dry and it seems to have stemmed my excess shedding problem. Thanks George, grateful you offer the insights you've acquired through yrs of trail and error and investment of time in your craft.
So maybe I missed it--but what is co-washing? Mine is drying out a lot--forget the split ends. Grandpa's Pine tar is nice, but it doesn't resolve the drying issue.
co-wash is short for conditioner wash. so pretty much washing with a cleansing conditioner. edens body works coconut shea cleansing co-wash is the one Gray recommends using in another one of his videos
I am totally goin to try the conditioner 6- then special soap. Now I gotta ask what's a good conditioner? I have Suave Naturals now and no real complaints. So I will let you know of my results :) Thx Sir from Wa. where we like it green and serene :)
Wow! Funny I stumbled upon your comment just this minute (10/04/20 @ 10:00 PM) I just bought the exact same thing for my beard yesterday. So far I've only used it once. Please let me know how it worked for you.
Hey gray! I use bossman beard conditioner.. would you recommend me to use it like that 3 days and then 1 day soap.. i have this doubt cause in the bottle it sais only 2 times a week..
I was wondering how you feel about beer soap on beards. This is what I am using. Made with Dogfsh Head 60 Minute IPA, Saponified Elaeis guineensis (Palm) Oil, Cocos nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Olea europaea (Olive) Oil, Ricinus communis (Castor) Oil, Brassica campestris (Canola) Oil, Butyrospermum parkii (Shea) Butter, Theobroma cacao (Cocoa) Butter, Fragrance.
Gray Bailey If your interested in trying it for yourself, I got it at thebeersoapcompany.com They have a huge selection of soaps and also deodorant. I have used them for a few years and I love them. I would love to see what you think. I'm not affiliated with them but maybe if you reached out to them, you could work something out. They also have great customer service.
have done co wash with coconut cond only for three days. Have done beard oil after I get out of the shower. And Honest Amish beard balm afterward. Beard is 7 inch long and still coarse feeling.? Feels better overall due to the products. But not a big improvement like you said. Im 65 yrs old. I did a big cocunut oil deep cond once. Any help?
I’m about to put the beard wash to the side and begin cowashing instead! I have been using shea moisture African black soap body wash do you think that would be harmful to the beard or good to use in place of the soap you have recommended?
What kind of conditioners should i use i have beard guys at the moment. Is there one you would recommend for a larger temperamental beard. It gets dry and split ends. I use oils balms and a soft kent blonde boar bristle brush
What if you work a job where you sweat crazy amounts seems like a strong shampoo is the only option just to keep it hygienic like if I didn't wash it really good with strong shampoo everyday I think it would smell so bad I would vomit is this wrong? I just always thought it was the only way
@@ListenMySon it seems like Eden bodyworks coconut shea all natural cleansing cowash is underappreciated for how well it is for beards. Is it still the best in your opinion? I've tried plenty of others and the only one that came close to it was Scotch Porter.
I'm so glad I found you on youtube. Thanks for doing this..I mean, I know you benefit financially but I appreciate this content. cheers!

When you explained co washing and who does it mainly you instantly gained a follower! 💁🏼 you know your stuff 👌
Hey Sultan , I've started co-washing daily with Johnsons baby conditioner (I will knock it down to 6 days though) , I use Johnsons baby shampoo once a week . And once a month I use Dr.Squatch's pine tar soap for a good old proper cleaning.

My concern is that while I use Honest Amish classic oil and balm and use a Kent coarse comb, I lose 8-10 hairs each day while grooming?Normal? Or am I doing something wrong to weaken the hair bulb/follicle? Worried that the lost hair will outpace the new growth and the beard will thin out and start looking patchy ..btw I'm 54 Thanks for any constructive reply :)
co washing made a huge difference but the pine tar soap was a game changer
Would this advice work with JUST a mustache as well? Just cowash 6 days then use the Grandpas Pine Tar on 7th day....
I haven't heard bad things about it.
I'm asking because i know that the skin/hair in the beard area is different from the one in the hair area, and i'm wondering if it can have a negative effect.
p.s. you are a life saver and guide :)
Keep it up
+Jacopo Sepe Any conditioner is fine. Peace.
And I always use a wide tooth big comb, never pulling on it.
I like Dr squatch soap it works great for my beard
What kind/brand conditioner do you recommend for the cowashing? Thanks!!!
Can I use beard wash and conditioner or just the conditioner? Thanks. I love you videos
Hi George how often would you advice to use beard oil? Every day?
Erik Wijngaard
Yes, use it everyday.
I am totally goin to try the conditioner 6- then special soap.
Now I gotta ask what's a good conditioner?
I have Suave Naturals now and no real complaints.
So I will let you know of my results :)
Thx Sir from Wa. where we like it green and serene :)
Hi George, I have always always used Grandpa's Pine Tar Soap
Just wondering what is your take on ...aussie 3 min miracle as a co wash conditioner for the beard?
Can I use any conditioner for cowashing my beard, or should I use a more beard-specific conditioner?
I use Mountaineer Beard Brand Pine Tar beard wash...
Do you recommend cowashing every day for the hair on the head?
Co-wash, nice one!!!
George so Can I basically use any type of hair conditioner to co wash? Ty
+demonVTX06 Never used it but the ingredients combo sounds pretty BADASS. I would try it.
Thx. I too have a gray beard
Beard shampoo is good to clean the beard once every 3 days.
what's a good conditioner for my beard ? like my everyday conditioner?
George...how do you deal with split ends and broken hairs?
Argan oil is amazing
have done co wash with coconut cond only for three days. Any help?
What do you think about mane n tail conditioner for everyday use??
I’m about to put the beard wash to the side and begin cowashing instead! I have been using shea moisture African black soap body wash do you think that would be harmful to the beard or good to use in place of the soap you have recommended?
+Allen Dittman #cowashing is wonderful. Thats all I do now.
How long are you in town? I am a Disney local and at Animal Kingdom a lot.
Is there a good leave in conditioner I could use? I'm a truck driver and don't always have access to running water. Lol
Thanks for the tip I'll report back with progress.
What kind of conditioner do you recommend?
I use kirks coco castile soap it's all natural and leave my beard smelling like coconut
I just always thought it was the only way
This guy is a legend
Hi George, you mention about grandpas pine soap and soap company , what about conditioner? Any brand you recommend ?
+Farzad H I like Eden Bodyworks Coconut Shea Co-wash.
Thank you sir!
@@ListenMySon it seems like Eden bodyworks coconut shea all natural cleansing cowash is underappreciated for how well it is for beards. Is it still the best in your opinion? I've tried plenty of others and the only one that came close to it was Scotch Porter.
Have you ever used prof. Fuzzworthys beard "shampoo"
Hey George, Id love to hear what you know about mane and tail conditioner and if you would recommend it for a daily wash of the beard.
I don't know much about it but I know a lot of people who use it and like it. Bottom line: the milder, the better. Cheers!
Any particular conditioner that you would suggest for daily cowashing?
+songofdavidr Eden Bodyworks Coconut Shea co-wash
Which co wash do you recommend? I try to stay clear of products with glycol in them
