    Kate is very much the full package: she learnt interpretative dance with Lindsay Kemp, who taught David Bowie, and mime training as well. It is Kate who is dancing here. And there is a link to Peter Gabriel (as you know now with their duet Don't Give Up). It would be worth looking at some of her later work, which is probably more accessible, although still quite cerebral: The Sensual World. This Woman's Work and Moments of Pleasure are all beautiful. She's a musical genius!

    the 2012 mix was made for the London Olympic closing ceremony, as Kate turned down the offer to sing live at the event. BTW You could also listen to her first song.. Wuthering Heights, first song written and song by a female artist to get to no 1 in the UK. While The Sensual World is one of my fav songs/vids of hers.

    Great reaction. Please can you listen to The sensual world and Moments of pleasure. The b side to The hounds of love album is called The ninth wave, a concept album concerning a woman coming close to death by drowning and all of the emotions she goes through. It's an absolute work of art, made up of seperate tracks that you could go through.

    I’ve never yet seen or heard anyone seem to get the meaning that I get from the lyrics. To me, it’s as clear as crystal.
    She’s wanting to exchange the one quintessential differing experience between the sexes, and that is the physical and emotional experience of making love.
    Read the lyrics and see how that falls into place.
    The video has her and the man in extremely close and intimate positions.
    Kate was very, very sensual and sexual, and quite in touch with her femininity, and I’m sure she wanted to exchange places during sex to know what it was like.

      Kate has never implied or even hinted at that in her scores of explanations of the song

      I know. And I’ve seen quite a number of those interviews. It doesn’t convince me.
      Not all artists are truthful about their actual intent behind their works.
      If you listen to Sting talk to different interviewers about his songs you’ll find his ‘explanations’ vary, sometimes a little, sometimes a lot. It sort of reminds me of Heath Ledger’s Joker character ‘explaining’ how he got his scars.
      I think this song is far more mundane if it’s merely a Freaky Friday type scenario where Kate is merely saying ‘Gee, I wish I could be a man for a day’ or some such twaddle. And I don’t attribute ‘mundane’ to Kate’s songwriting. She pours way too much thought into her songs, lyrically, musically, instrumentally, etc.
      So yes, to my knowledge she’s never confirmed my suspicions, but my suspicions still stand. One thing that we do know about Kate is that she does have a private, enigmatic side to her.

    • @mvellis3863
      @mvellis3863 3 года назад +2

      @@sean---the-other-one think what you want, but it doesn't mean a thing to compare what Sting or any other artist has said about their own work. And your Joker comment is really inapplicable since Kate has been so consistent in her explanations. Your assumption is based on your own interpretation and nothing more (which is fine, but my point is that it is not supported by Kate's own words, and why should anyone doubt her?): 1. "This song is very much about two people who are in love, and how the power of love is almost too big for them. It leaves them very insecure and in fear of losing each other. It's also perhaps talking about some fundamental differences between men and women." (Kate Bush Club newsletter, 1985). 2. "It is very much about the power of love, and the strength that is created between two people when they're very much in love, but the strength can also be threatening, violent, dangerous as well as gentle, soothing, loving. And it's saying that if these two people could swap places - if the man could become the woman and the woman the man, that perhaps they could understand the feelings of that other person in a truer way, understanding them from that gender's point of view, and that perhaps there are very subtle differences between the sexes that can cause problems in a relationship, especially when people really do care about each other." (The Tony Myatt Interview, November 1985). 3. "It's very much about a relationship between a man and a woman who are deeply in love and they're so concerned that things could go wrong - they have great insecurity, great fear of the relationship itself. It's really saying if there's a possibility of being able to swap places with each other that they'd understand how the other one felt, that when they were saying things that weren't meant to hurt, that they weren't meant sincerely, that they were just misunderstood. In some ways, I suppose the basic difference between men and women, where if we could swap places in a relationship, we'd understand each other better, but this, of course, is all theoretical anyway." (Open Interview, 1985). 4. "It seems that the more you get to know a person, the greater the scope there is for misunderstanding. Sometimes you can hurt somebody purely accidentally or be afraid to tell them something because you think they might be hurt when really they'll understand. So what that song is about is making a deal with God to let two people swap place so they'll be able to see things from one another's perspective." (The London Times, 27 August 1985).
