One of the funniest videos on RUclips is Big Boi from OutKast voicing his love for Kate Bush and this very song. Kate Bush is Big Boi favorite artist. Hearing him with a thick gold chain sing this song with all his soul never gets old.

It's Kate Bush who is doing the "modern dancing" interpretation to fit the song. She is a dancer, singer, writer, producer, plays piano in most of her songs. She wants to "trade places" with "the man" so she can relate to where he is coming from and he would trade places with her to do the same. "Let's exchange (share) the experience"...so to be able to understand one another better.

When you consider that Kate Bush wrote " The man with the child in his eye's" when she was only 12yrs old, finished it when she was 15 then recorded the track when she was 17. That should give you some idea of who you're dealing with.

She was already a best selling artist in the UK but this album catapulted her even further. One of the songs from the second side (which is a single story woven through the songs on that second side, called The Ninth Wave), Hello Earth featured in a scene on the TV show Miami Vice. Not the sort of song you’d associate with a buddy/cop show at all. Most people remember them using In The Air Tonight but I always remember Hello Earth. She’s brilliant. Her own choreography and dancing as she also learned performance art.

Kate Bush is a terrific singer-songwriter from England. This song is her only Top 40 hit in America. The song peaked at #30 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the fall of 1985.

The song is about how men and women aren’t the same, aren’t equal, equatable, or interchangeable, and the struggles that come with those differences, and asking god to swap places so the sexes can understand each other better.

Great reaction guys. She has too many great songs but the one which everyone seems to love is "This Woman's Work". I have many personal favourites but as a fan of 43 years seeing her first live performance on TV in 1978 I am maybe a little biased! My personal favourite is "The Kick Inside" of which there is a video on the "TopPop" channel. No one has reacted to this one yet. I am always hoping there may be a first....

It's modern/contemporary dance, and I don't actually think you were off the mark about the "it doesn't hurt me/do you want to know how it feels?/do you want to know/know that it doesn't hurt me" lines. I do think it's reasonable to interpret this as referring to sex as well as other sensual and emotional aspects of relationships. Kate Bush doesn't veer away from sensuality, but it's not meant to be titillating so much as reflective of the full human experience. Whether it's from the perspective of a woman telling a man that it doesn't hurt her when he pentrates her or from the perspective of any person trying to relate to another person, Kate wishes that people could live one another's experiences so that we could understand and know one another in the most intimate way. And ultimately, despite how divided we are, male and female or any other division, we're all similar at the root:
"There is thunder in our hearts.
Is there so much hate for the ones we love?
Tell me, we both matter, don't we?"

You weren't off in your initial thought. The idea is that if she could switch places, she wouldn't take it easy and be worried about hurting him (with that "bullet" that lies deep). She'd be running up that hill. Not many people catch on to that ever. Good job getting it on first listen.
