The U.S. really missed the boat with Kate Bush. I saw her on SNL in 1978 and was ensorcelled, she is one of my favorite artists of all time. Kate's work is so deep and transportive that you never get tired of it. I'm really happy that she's getting renewed attention with Running Up That Hill being a #1 hit worldwide, it's truly an amazing story.

I’m Australian and thankful that we got it. Kate has always been with me since I first heard her in 85. Yes..agreed. This is the most vulnerable, useless, frightening and agonizing feeling for a man when you love and care for someone that much. During this part of a woman's work, all the physical strength he may have and all the physical things he can do in the world outside for her,are useless. He is powerless. And all he can do is, wait...think...wonder...hope...pray.
      And,yes...cry...

Kate is truly one of a kind. I first remember hearing Wuthering Heights in about 1982 when i was 5 or 6 years old driving down to Cornwall (UK) with my parents and being completely, utterly bewitched by her....it seemed to awaken something in me, an emotional resonance, so I spent the next 40 years looking for music that gave me that emotional feeling... she is the G.O.A.T

Great honest reaction. Personal opinion of course, but too many people consider her to be the greatest living female artist for there to be nothing in that. Original, unique and basically the full package - singer/songwriter, pianist, producer, video director, trained dancer/mime, choreographer. The nurse’s smile at the end of the video reassures there was a good outcome, just as there was for mother and unborn baby in the Kevin Bacon film Kate wrote the song for ‘She’s Having a Baby’. I look forward to you doing more Kate Bush videos. Her early videos from the age of 19 were very theatrical and often sung in a high register (e.g ‘Wuthering Heights’ and ‘Wow’). By the time of the Hounds of Love album (from which came Running Up That Hill, Hounds Of Love and Cloudbusting) she was 26/27 and singing mostly in a lower register. If you want another hard-hitting emotional song with Kate try her duet with Peter Gabriel on his song ‘Don’t Give Up’. One of the greatest duets of all time.

Secondly, the fact that you can barely get your words out afterwards is testimony to what Kate can do to you. Kate was asked to write a song for the scene in the movie She's Having A Baby where the husband, played by Kevin Bacon, is reminiscing about all of the good times he and his wife, played by Elizabeth McGovern, in the hospital waiting room and he's feeling regret and fear after he learned that his wife is about to go through a breached birth which could pose a threat to the wife's life and even the baby. Elizabeth McGovern's character and their baby both turn out OK. Kate wrote this song from the husband's point of view.
Kate's character survives at the end of the music video because of the nurse's smile to let the husband know his wife is OK.
This is my favorite Kate Bush song. It has gotten me through tough times emotionally and gave me the encouragement and strength to carry on. So I give her a lot of gratitude for writing, producing and performing this touching and beautiful song.

Great reaction to this beautiful piece of visual music
Maxwell's cover on its own certainly did more than justice for this song but for me, the raw emotional opulence of the original will always be the gold standard.
I was quite young when I first saw/heard Kate's music. She definitely is in a league of her own who inspired many artists who came after her (Tori Amos, Bjork, Lorde to name a few).
Kate is every bit of a theatrical/visual performer/storyteller as she is a musical genius/writer/artist and her extensive/legendary discography proves it.
I encourage your continuation to watch and listen to this brilliant songstress for you have only scratched the surface of what is the Kate Bush Experience.
I highly recommend next to watch and listen to Kate's duet with fellow legendary Art & Progressive Rock/Pop Artist Peter Gabriel.
The song is "Don't Give Up" off of Peter's celebrated album "So" (1986).
I listen to this song constantly to help me get through the tough times

@@warrenbridges1891 Yes, I think you are right. But her 'spirit' comes to the husband and it is unclear if she has died. It may be simply reassuring him to be strong. So I does seem a happy ending, but I am drawn to Hemingway's 'For Whom the Bell Tolls' where (spoiler alert) the character's girl friend has a still birth and seems to be doing alright but right at the end dies of an infection. That is a stretch to assume something like that here. I like Kate keeps it a little fuzzy.

BTW at the end of the video when the nurse appears for the final time she's smiling so I take that to mean that the character that Kate was portraying survived. It's a very powerful song and the great thing is that Kate has so many in her catalogue. So in addition to the many suggestions I will add some more from the "Hounds Of Love" in addition to Cloudbusting, I would add Hounds Of Love and The Big Sky.
Going back to the start you could try Wuthering Heights Kate's debut single which made an instant impact, followed by The Man With The Child In His Eyes, Wow, Hammer Horror, Babooshka, Breathing
From Kate's 4th album "The Dreaming" which is her most experimental "out there" piece of work, you could try: Sat In Your Lap, The Dreaming, Suspended In Gaffa and There Goes A Tenner

@@warrenbridges1891 Moreover, this song seems to stop abruptly (when Kate closes the piano). In the film, this is the point, where Kevin Bacon stops at the door of her room in the hospital and looks at her in her bed, obviously being okay, just like the baby. Then he draws a conclusion of all that has happened in his life and then you can hear the song "Crazy Love" in a Brian Ferry version. In short terms: She's okay!

I knew this song from " Love of Basketball ". I knew it sound familiar but could not place the tune. Shows like your refresh the memories of old songs and artists... Thank you. It was also in another movie before that one in which she Kate Bush was singing the song.

Kate Bush's original song goes SO MUCH DEEPER than Maxwell's cover. Yes, Maxwell have a great voice...but IMHO, he TOTALLY misses the real emotional essence of Kate's song...as well as the story behind it. Maxwell focuses on the voice, while Kate focuses on emoting the message and story of the song. I tell you...the message is MUCH MORE POWERFUL than Maxwell's vocal gymnastics. Don't get me wrong, Maxwell is a great singer/artist. But sometimes it's not about the voice. It's about telling the story.

There's a bit of cathedral echo on the Kate Bush track. (spoiled it for me) Cathedrals and churches produce AMAZING reverberations - but need the right music for that.

I tell people every time, watch out for her screams. The pain is so visceral. Listen right after she pulls the table cloth off. It's overwhelming.

It’s been a year, and you said you were gonna do more of Kate. I hope you did.
She’s one of those that gets you to the bone in every song. First, there’s the story. Next, there’s the emotion. Finally, there’s the music. Many of today’s musicians forget that. They can sing, so that’s all done. Here comes the money!
No. It isn’t. It’s not enough to just shake your booty and rake in the money. Just because you can write doesn’t mean your books should be taught in literature classes. You move people to their core, or you haven’t done anything

You should hear Kate Bush cover Elton John's - Candle In The Wind. I grew up with my grandmother and her mother country is the UK. This song by Elton was played for Princess Diana when she died....Goodbye English Rose....My nana loved all the royal pageantry and she and I loved the Princess Diana. I think the world could really use a humanitarian like her right now. I can't think of anyone that didn't like her...except her husband and his mistress. She had a way of just reaching across all divides and boundaries....she believed the "human touch" was more healing than anything. She used to say, "...these people...young and old sometimes just need a cuddle..." Boy, she was right....and what we need right now is a kind Mum to give a cuddle to the suffering.

Yeahhh, this one is rough. I remember watching the movie, for which this song was written. “She’s having a baby”, directed by John Hughes, where Kevin Bacon plays the husband. This song made that movie even better. This is one of those songs that if you haven’t heard or watched the video in a while, it hits you allover again. It’s an excellent song, sung by an excellent voice, written for a gripping movie. The piano, her voice, and the lyrics make this a tearjerker for sure. A+ for Kate Bush on this masterpiece.

This is such an emotional song. I remember hearing it in the movie "She's Having a Baby" (1988) and my eyes tearing up and trying hard to make sure my wife didn’t see me. Although it is a “Comedy” for the most part, it deals with a very serious subject towards the end. Spoiler Alert Ahead: The song is playing when Kevin Bacon's character's wife is having life threatening issues giving birth to their first child. Kate wrote the song specifically for that movie and for that part with the husband waiting in the waiting room of the hospital not knowing if his wife and child will make it.
It is a song from the man's point of view. Thinking back about all the regrets he has about their relationship. How he thinks about how he should have done things differently. How he wants a second chance to do things so much better and not take his wife for granted again. His thoughts about how precious her life is and how much he truly loves her.
This reminds me to appreciate my wife a lot more. And by listening to this song, it as if I have lived this and now have a second chance to do better and do the things with her and for her so I don't have regrets later in life. You would have to be a robot to not show emotion once you understand the meaning behind this song and listen to the lyrics. I have heard many beautiful covers but no one can sing it with the emotion that Kate can.
