I was about to purchase a new sprayer. I noticed a lot of reviews complaining that new sprayers were sticking again after just a few months. I finally found this video which is just what I needed. Thanks for posting this.
I was about to punch a hole in the wall, sat down with one needle nose pliers and took a deep breath and watched this video, worked like a charm, ty Donco!!!!
Even though my Moen side sprayer was a different model, the bits inside were close enough to figure it out. Once I removed the plunger and applied a little silicone grease around the two o-rings, it worked as it should. I am amazed how one can find a video fix on anything and everything these days.
Thank you for posting this video (For models like mine you use a hex wrench to unscrew and remove the bottom pieces.) Stretched the spring out pretty aggressively (approximately 1/4 inch longer than when removed) and now it works better than when installed.
Thanks a grand for the visual instructions. My Moen model was slightly different; but close enough to follow the steps. I soaked all the parts in vingar, overnight; then I stretched out that spring and now I am back in business.
Like many others have mentioned, big thanks for this video. A couple notes: Our Moen spray head is a newer model and slightly different than your example. Close enough, though, as the plunger was the problem. An Allen/hex key was needed to remove the threaded piece. There was no screen and the spring was opposite the way yours went it (I did stretch it out, through). Lastly, I soaked all parts in vinegar and that did it. Our spray head now works better than new!
Thank you so much! Mine was slightly different, but I was able to use this info to unstick my sprayer. I thought I was going to have to call a plumber. This is one grateful housewife!
THANK YOU so much for your video!! My sprayer got stuck on in the middle of the night, and I was freaking out. I didn't have silicone lubricant, but a coconut and aloe based waterproof lip balm I had finally did the trick to get that nozzle to release. I don't think I'll be touching the sprayer ever again, but I'm glad I can use my faucet now. ❤️
With this video I managed to repair my own sprayer. The inside casings on mine were plastic but, same idea in general. You saved me a trip to Lowe's. Thank you.
I had a replacement Moen sprayer assembly that I only installed less than a year ago, but it started sticking recently and today it wouldn't release at all. So I followed your steps here. There was no grit or anything obvious in there, but using a little silicon and slightly stretching the spring seems to have done the trick and got that plunger working smoothly again. Good to go now. Thanks!
Kudos for the video. It helped removing the plastic threaded plastic. I used plumber grease.

I have used your video multiply times. I have to keep disassembling and cleaning with white vinegar but it works. Appreciate your time creating the video to help problem solve.
THANKS!!!! I was able to disassemble and cleaned a bit around the plunger, but didn't remember how to re-assemble. Your video was the only one I could find to help with re-assembly! Sprayer works great!
THANK YOU so much for this wonderful explanation of how to repair the sprayer. My faucet is a Moen Whitmore, and the sprayer is one piece, if you can believe it, so the end of it does not unscrew. I was able to remove the entire sprayer head from the hose, however, and run vinegar through it, put some silicone lubricant inside, and then reassemble it. It works perfectly! I was shocked, because it didn't feel complicated enough to have done anything productive, y'know? I wouldn't have had the courage to tackle this repair if it hadn't been for your video. Thank you again. You explain everything so well, with terminology anyone can understand. I appreciate your taking the time to do this and help others.
Excellent video! I just fixed mine in less than 10 minutes or so, including getting the tools together and going through it. Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to make the video. Most appreciated!!
You are a hero. I want to buy you a virtual beer for saving my sanity. Thank you!!! p.s. As someone else mentioned below, depending on your model you may need a hex wrench to remove the bottom part before being able to reach the spring mechanism, vs. what is shown in the video.
The best in explaining with the actual sprayer nozzle in the video and how to fix. Thank you. It helped a lot and hopefully im the hero for the day in my home :)
Thank you so much for the great video. I paid less than $5 for some waterproof silicone grease and spent about 15 minutes to take apart/clean and grease/put back together. Super easy fix!
I have a slightly different moen spray nozzle model and you need an allen wrench to remove the part which holds the spring in. I didn't have any silicon grease, so I just cleaned the assembly with a little lime-away, it is a partial fix until I can get the grease. Thanks for the video it was a great help!
Thanks! Just seeing your video help me to open up my sprayer and I was able to work the plunger a few times to get unstuck. It works great now! Thank you.
Very helpful! I have a new Moen model and the inside appears to be all one piece. I cannot remove the O-ring, as there isn't even access to it. However, by you demonstrating everything, I was able to take this apart and apply some lubricant to the piece that should depress and so far, so good! This may only be a temporary fix, but I'm happy! Thanks again!
This fixed my sprayer that was stuck on for 2 days. I Couldn’t get water out of facet through my pur filter for deinking or to do dishes. This helped in like 5 minutes Thank you so much
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I was able to fix my the Moen sprayer. As you suggested, I stretched the spring out and now it shuts off as it should. You saved me time and $ having to replace it.
I know it's been 4 years since ypu posted this, but I still have to thank you for saving me from some pain in the a$$ work of replacing the old sprayer kit. Thank you so much. Cheers!
This video is 7 years old, but the tip about the silicon grease was spot on. Lightly cleaning the bore and lubing the o-rings fixed our sprayer. Works like new now. 👍
Even though the little thing the plunger sits down in on mine was a tad different. It looked like a certain sized hex key might fit down in mine so I very gently tried it, it worked perfectly and I was able to take it apart and clean it, with a little straw brush and some dish liquid the reassembled and seems to be working perfectly now! Thank you for the help! Saved me 30.00! 🙌🏻 I'm heading tofind some silicone based lubricant and I will come home and apply a bit of that down I there as well to hedge my bets! Much appreciated this little video!
Nice repair. Sadly didn't work for mine. I got my moen used and turns out someone cracked it under the button...had a different brand sprayer laying around and put a thick gasket ring in it worked great. Thank you much for this video sir.
Thank you! This fixed the issue. Plus, I did not have to install the replacement sprayer that did not match the faucet finish. I ended up using a hex to screw out the bottom gasket instead of needle nose plyers.
Thank you!!! It was EXACTLY what I needed !! I was able to fix my sprayer! I never would have guessed that the rubber gasket was threaded. I followed your suggestion and used o-ring pliers to put pressure on the sides of the gasket in order to unscrew it. I worked perfectly. AAAA +++++++
Agreed! Maybe this varies between models, but I found this to be the case as well with my model, which I think is the same model as the one in the video but with a brushed nickel finish. I was able to remove the screen with a sewing pin and tweezers, and then the plastic piece beneath it has an Allen Key wrench hole in the middle of it and screws out very easily that way. I just wish I had come down here and read the comments at that point, I spent a good hour trying to unscrew the plastic screen holder, not realizing the screen just lifts right out of it. I took a photo to help illustrate this: drive.google.com/file/d/1BDIQi2DTJs-7wAnKc8vWNLsW47nylQsq/view?usp=sharing
Thanks so much for this video and the comments. My sprayer is a newer model. As stated below, you'll need an hex key to get the plastic part out of the bottom, instead of removing a screen. This part unscrews, then comes out. Then you can take the assembly out from the top. After that you can push the plunger out from the top with your finger. Put some silicone on the o-rings, stretch the spring, put it back together, and you're done.
Mine was a bit different inside, allen wrench to get it apart and was actually super clean inside yet, so i just stretched the spring out a good amount and threw it back together, works mint. Thanks for the vid as a guide!!
Thanks for the directions. I did find, however, if you take out the screen on the insert in the base plug of the handle, the opening underneath is ready for an Allen Key. When it's time to reassemble, the screen pops right back in after you tighten the base plug. If you don't have any silicone lubricant, l recommend you go to the hardware store and not ask at the drugstore. Being a Sunday afternoon, the hardware stores locally were closed and the nearest Home Depot that had the right stuff was an hour away. I thought I'd try the drugstore on the way first on the off chance. The only lubricant they had was of the K-Y type, neither the assistant nor myself were sure if it would work anyhow but my holding the box and asking her gave her, her laugh of the afternoon (she's known my wife and I for many years)...
Thank you so much for this instructional video. I'm back up and running. Especially which way that white piece was to be inserted I was like 😳😮 lol but all is well. Weird thing is my sprayer didn't have that removable screened piece like yours in order to get to the plunger so I just pumped it until it sprang back up it worked. Thanks again 😊
Excellent video. However, my moen sprayer needed an allen key to remove the center piece, so no pliers were necessary. Highly recommend and agree to use silicone grease on the inside rubber O-rings. Thank you!
Thank you! Great video! Yes, just remove the little screen and then you can use an Allen key(as mentioned) to remove the black threaded insert rather than the reverse pliers. Should have looked at the comments earlier. 🙄 Re-assembled and works like a charm! Thanks again! 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks for posting this video! My sprayer was also a little different than the one you showed, but it had basically the same internal parts. I cleaned it up and stretched the spring and now it works great! I don't have any silicon at home so didn't lube the o rings, but at some point l'll get some and do that step.
@Dawn Levy we didn't have to, just don't turn on the sink cause the water won't have anywhere to stop and will go through the hose towards you. May be different for some models
Thank You for taking your time in doing this video. My Moen sprayer is a newer model, but basically, the O rings, easier to get to now, just needed some silicon lube on them as they were sticking. It works great now. Best. Mike
This is what I LOVE about RUclips and thank God for - 9 out of 10 times - if you have an issue with something and need to fix it yourself, you can look on here and someone will have a video showing you how to do whatever it is. Just goes to show - answers to prayer don't always have to be supernatural or miracles - they can be as practical as looking up a tutorial!! Thanks a bunch!
why don't they make these things so they just work...how hard can that be...I have replaced several and some don't even work from the get go, some stop working in a few weeks or months
Job security. Shitty overpriced product designed to break creates a constant flow of money into the hands of an asshole, who only cares about money. Quality over quantity always.
You ask “How hard can that be?”. Are you an engineer? If you were, you’d know. Your assumption is that it would (or “should”) be easy. Are you an engineer?
I didn't have the tools either and absolutely could NOT get that black O ring out! A man in the second store I tried sold me a replacement for $3.79. Still, I would have been psyched to have fixed it myself ... with the help of THIS guy, of course!
Thank you. I have almost the same one at home, except no filter in mine and I needed a hex-key to open it. But all down to a cheap spring in my case. I stretched it our, shoved it back together and worked again. Just wasn't sure fully how to take it out
adding to the thanks. I also had the hex style one and found myself without the correct sized allen key I took the top part off, and soaked the entire thing in 5x strength vinegar and it worked. Maybe I'll have to get the allen key some time but that time is not today!
I wish you had shown all of the steps you did instead of breaking away to the next step. However this was helpful. Maybe I can stop getting sprayed in the belly when I get up in the middle of the night to get a drink of water
Just wanted to say that if you don’t have the right size Allen wrench or if a butter knife is it fitting in that tight space. You can use a fat/bigger flathead screwdriver if you have one. Worked for me.
I was about to purchase a new sprayer. I noticed a lot of reviews complaining that new sprayers were sticking again after just a few months. I finally found this video which is just what I needed. Thanks for posting this.

Finally!!! Someone with actual knowledge of how to repair. Everyone seems to want to just replace and this is so easy to fix. Thank you!!!!🙏 😊
How did you unscrew the thing to get spring out?
Thanks so much, can't even find a replacement for mine anymore and you saved me a lot of trouble!
THANK YOU so much for your video!! My sprayer got stuck on in the middle of the night, and I was freaking out. I didn't have silicone lubricant, but a coconut and aloe based waterproof lip balm I had finally did the trick to get that nozzle to release. How did you get the plastic pieces out? With needle nose as well. I don't want to break it. 😮💨

Thank you for such a detailed lesson. You just saved this single lady some money.
The best in explaining with the actual sprayer nozzle in the video and how to fix. Thank you. It helped a lot and hopefully im the hero for the day in my home :)
this video was a great help. 7 years later and a different model. But this video helped solve my problem.

Watched your video this morning, followed your instructions, fixed in about 10 minutes, Thank you!!
THANK YOU!!! I just fixed my sprayer by watching you!! You are the best!
Wow! Just did this and it worked great! My husband was amazed!
Thanks! Just seeing your video help me to open up my sprayer and I was able to work the plunger a few times to get unstuck. It works great now! Thank you.
I realize this is an old video but it is much appreciated! For some reason this happens to mine twice a year at least.
Very helpful! I have a new Moen model and the inside appears to be all one piece. I cannot remove the O-ring, as there isn't even access to it. Thank you so much! Cost of repair, $11 and works like a charm!
This fixed my sprayer that was stuck on for 2 days. I Couldn’t get water out of facet through my pur filter for deinking or to do dishes. This helped in like 5 minutes Thank you so much
Saved me $30.00 on a cheaper quality Moen replacement.. Works great now. Thanks! (June 2024)
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I was able to fix my the Moen sprayer. As you suggested, I stretched the spring out and now it shuts off as it should. You saved me time and $ having to replace it.
Thank you, Donco, for this very helpful video! Just followed your instructions and saved myself 45 bucks. Video was very well done right to the point.
Very nice! Had a stuck sprayer, watched this video, did what you did, sprayer not stuck anymore! Thanks for posting!
I know it's been 4 years since ypu posted this, but I still have to thank you for saving me from some pain in the a$$ work of replacing the old sprayer kit.

Outstanding instructional video displaying everything you need to know how to solve the problem.

You are a wizard! Nicely presented and just what my leaking sprayer needed. Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!
Many thanks for this. There was no calcium build-up. We just tugged at the spring , reassembled the nozzle and it works!😘
Worked perfectly! Followed step-by-step and had it fixed in 20 minutes! Thanks so much!!
Thanks so much! Even though my sprayer is a bit different than yours, your video taught me how to fix it! Much appreciated!

Why didn’t I see this video before the weekend 😩 Very thankful for your instruction- it made my kitchen whole again👍🏼
Thank you! This fixed the issue. Plus, I did not have to install the replacement sprayer that did not match the faucet finish. I ended up using a hex to screw out the bottom gasket instead of needle nose plyers.
Thanks for sharing. You saved me $25 on a replacement. Much appreciated.

Very helpful. Our "wetherly" model was somewhat different but your instructions were sufficient to get me through the job.
Thanks for this video, brother! I also had a slightly different model but was able to fix it by following your steps and improvising a little.
good vid, Also you can pull the screen out with a pick and then use a 1/4" allen key to unscrew the bottom washer that holds the valve together.
Agreed! Maybe this varies between models, but I found this to be the case as well with my model, which I think is the same model as the one in the video but with a brushed nickel finish. Thank you so much for posting this video. My Moen sidepray it is only one piece. But watching the video I figure out and now is working great.
This worked perfectly!!! Thank you so much!! Great video too, I would have not known to unscrew the cap that holds the spring in place.
Thank you 🙏🙏 Thought mine was broken but just finished fixing it because of you 👍
This was very helpful, thank you! I just saved myself about $400.
Thanks so much for this video and the comments. My sprayer is a newer model. As stated below, you'll need an hex key to get the plastic part out of the bottom, instead of removing a screen. 😀
Perfect amount of detail and explanation. I'm back up & running in under 15 minutes. Thank you.
Wow thanks so much!! Your video solved my problem and saved me hundred of dollars with just a few minutes of work!
Thank you!!!! I fixed my sprayer and didn't have to bother my new landlord.
Well done video. It has all the information I needed to repair the spray nozzle. Very useful. Thank you!
Thank you so very much for the video. I just fixed the sprayer !!!
Awesome video, saved me lot of money buying new parts.
It's May 2024, and this video saved the day 🙏🏽
Excellent video. However, my moen sprayer needed an allen key to remove the center piece, so no pliers were necessary. Highly recommend and agree to use silicone grease on the inside rubber O-rings. Thank you!
Thank you for these directions. Works like a charm now.
It worked. No lube. Allen wrench. Nail file. Bamboo skewer to take of small rubber ring for filing. Spring stretch. Good Good. Thankyou.
❤ thank you for this video. I have never had.so many problems with a sprayer sticking. I replaced a few already.
Thank you. Your video is the only video that helped me.
Thank you! Great video!
Yes, just remove the little screen and then you can use an Allen key(as mentioned) to remove the black threaded insert rather than the reverse pliers.
Should have looked at the comments earlier. 🙄
Re-assembled and works like a charm!
Did you have to turn off the water to fix the sprayer? I need to fix mine
Best. Mike
Well done my friend thank you for saving me money and time this was a quick fix it works great
Thank you so much for posting this. Been doing dishes with hose for a week 😂
Thanks for the help. That worked for me. Although I didn't have any silicone grease so just used coconut oil. Hopefully that is ok.
Just found this vid and it was SUPER helpful, repaired the problem thank you!!
Thank you! Just fixed my sprayer and it's basically a pressure washer now! YAY
This was exactly what I was looking for. Thank you very much for the upload!
Dow MOLYKOTE 111 is a high quality silicone grease readily available - and good to have around for O-rings in general.
Man, you just saved me $25! Thanks!
Great instruction - but our Moen sprayer seems to be a slightly different model. We did not see the screen??
This is what I LOVE about RUclips and thank God for - 9 out of 10 times - if you have an issue with something and need to fix it yourself, you can look on here and someone will have a video showing you how to do whatever it is. Brilliant! Thank you for taking the time to share. Now I'm off to save myself the cost of a replacement. 😊
Thank you very much for this video. You have helped me solve the issue. Have a great day.
Thank you so much! Saved me buying a new one.
why don't they make these things so they just work...how hard can that be...I have replaced several and some don't even work from the get go, some stop working in a few weeks or months

You saved me $50. Giving you a like and a follow! Thanks!
You saved me money and headache!!!You’d life saver

Thank you so much for this post. Fixed in seconds for free.
I wish you had shown all of the steps you did instead of breaking away to the next step. However this was helpful. Maybe I can stop getting sprayed in the belly when I get up in the middle of the night to get a drink of water
Excellent! Fixed my sprayer! Thanks!
Just wanted to say that if you don’t have the right size Allen wrench or if a butter knife is it fitting in that tight space. You can use a fat/bigger flathead screwdriver if you have one. Worked for me.
