Those final concerts were other worldly. Our little trio moved way up front at Alpine Valley and we could see SRV's peacock tattoo. I can still work up tears watching Stevie videos. Who knows, y'all may have even sat near us!
I saw him 4 times. Starting with the Texas Flood tour. Was a hero from the start. Oodles of talent. There couldn't have been an SRV without Hendrix. There couldn't have been many players without Hendrix. That doesn't lessen their talent in their own right.

You know, people, you never see any thumbs down concerning Stevie's performances. The reason is simple. He's the greatest guitar player in history! From up above, he's watching over us.
I’m a retired FAA air traffic controller and was working traffic at Pontiac ATCT when we got the word immediately following the accident that a helo carrying SRV had gone down in WI. I had to get the HELL off a position and take a break I’d been a fan of his like since whenever he first came out I was that shook up man what a damn shame what a loss. I never got to see him live but I had seen Jimmi at the Forum growing up and man I gotta say SRV I don’t mean to offend anyone but SRV man he was right there with Hendrix folks I’m no musician but he was something way special how some nimrod could possibly hit the thumbs down on this has to be tone deaf.
Took off in a fog, alpine valley was built on a kettle moraine and was a Ski hill in the winter. As is every show I've seen there the fog rolls in and is part of the show when it hits the band stage. Pilot must of hit a lift wire. One of the only local to Chicago shows i missed of him and DT. Traffic is always horrible the only quick way out is by Helo. Told my sister to go. He's so worth it. Truely like you, devastated hearing the news, like Senna and other greats. Though, 2 completely different paths, too me, those 2 hit me the hardest. Lost way to soon.
This may be the best version of "Couldn't Stand the Weather". Reese's piano solo has a really cool jazzy sound to it and Stevie's guitar solo following it is just mind blowing. Thanks for the upload!
Hay SRV FAMILY well I can't begin to tell y'all how much I LOVE this video I so wish SRV was still here with us all so we could go to his concerts. And being from Texas myself... well enough said
Jose Morales Well oddly enough I actually first became a fan back in the 80’s trying to figure out who played on David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance” track. Read somewhere later on in a guitar magazine (remember those? Ha!) that it was SRV. Been a fan since! Well, hello El Paso from Laredo!
I miss the days when musicians were actually musicians...imagine how much more music this guitar virtuoso could’ve produced if he were here today...you’re solely missed my friend.
Another deceased Legend I was blessed to see him in Melbourne 1984. I put the axe in the cupboard for a good while after that. I already had the Texas Flood album so I knew what to expect
My favorite SRV song...so much emotion! Took Hendrix to another dimension with the "Texas twang"...easily identifiable, had his own unique sound. Thank God I saw him on the USS Enterprise w/ Joe satriani opening back in '87 or '88 in NYC. We're still waiting for another great blues guitarist to come along...Thanks Stevie!!!
They are so tight together. Stevie is bad ass but the rest of the band deserves a lot of credit also. They complemented each other. Wouldn't have been the same without any of them
If you don’t play guitar, I dint think you can really appreciate how complex the rhythm lick that Stevie plays really is. And his tone. I know for a fact there are about 3 million players rocking Strats and not one of them can fully and completely replicate this song. Stevie was truly amazing.
I don't play guitar very well. I play air guitar extremely well... In my mind anyways why do air guitar to any one of my many Stevie favourites I hit every note in every solo.. I don't want to get into a debate but hey dude who does not agree that SRV is in the top five all time super cool super rockin Soulful Axe-Men of all time simply does not know what he is talking about
Stevie is the best player of all time in my opinion Hendrix, Clapton, they’re all up there as well. What difference does it make if someone can replicate them
As an avid Strat player with 40+ yes of band experience, Stevies playing both inspired me and made me want to give up playing at the same time. His ability to just have the guitar become an extension of himself, and pull tones out of the instrument that I've never come close to achieving. And you're right, non players may not have the same understanding of just what a rare talent he was. In 7yrs he introduced so many people to the blues and many longtime blues plates credit him with the revival of their careers. Guitar players ran out to buy the albums of all the blues greats SRV mentioned that influenced him. Tragic the way it ended for him, his loss to blues lovers around the world left holes in all our hearts.
Thank whomever made seeing this possible, 35 years later. They say true art can make you weep upon viewing it. My eyes stream as I witness this excellence.
In interviews he always expressed a profound sense of humility, often to the point of self-deprecation, while simultaneously lauding his influences and heroes. And then you hear him play. He was SO special.
We can say that about all the great artists/inventors/etc, that we have lost Mrs Squirrel, but I agree some of our great artists died far too young, , taking their talent with them!
Nuttygirl : That’s really all I ever said... I am so sad that he was taken from us too soon! Plus, I remember he said, ‘I feel so good now!’, and that makes me more sad! #SRV deserved #Children and #Everything he Cared About: ❤️✊🏾🌍✌🏾
I was lucky enough to see SRV play at the Sydney Opera house in 1984. I saw him again in 1986 at the Hordern pavilion also in Sydney. Great memories. Stevie is still sadly missed
Certainly one of their best live performances that I've heard. Fine piano solo as well. American music didn't often get much better than this back in 1985, at least for my money. A true talent still greatly missed...
Loving the little dance Stevie and Tommy are doing while Chris and Reese are solid born grooving. To me the greatest CSTW. They are laying it down people !!!!!!
From his hat to his cloths to the tip of his boots and back up to his fingertips he was electric & a genius in music and sound. I wish he could have been saved from the industry. Imagine what kind of threat they felt by him..
The very first time I heard this song, I loved it! There was instant recognition as to just who was playing it. I knew immediately. It's just an awesome piece of work
I swear he was possessed by that Strat..... by far the Greatest Texas Bluesman that has and will ever live, I am sure and Jimmy are up in heaven trading licks, what I would pay to be in the crowd hear that. RIP Stevie we miss you down here Buddy!!!
I was so lucky to see and hear Steve . It's was at Ringe Festival in Denmark. I was totally blowen away. The way he could play with the guitar at the back just in Jimi Hendrix style was something that i never will forget. I'm lucky I have seen it.💕
I heard Mike McCready say that he saw Stevie live once and when he started Couldn't Stand the Weather the sky just opened up and it started raining like crazy. He said it was an epic moment. Stevie is the stuff of absolute legend.
This is the song that got me hooked on SRV waaaay back in 85'. Cried my eyes out when I heard on the radio he was gone. RIP STEVIE...we all miss you so much!
In 1980 my wife and I hand carried a Diamond and Ruby bracelet from our " Cartiers" Jewelry store in Paris to Texas for Stevie's 26th birthday. He invited us to stay the night and celebrate his birthday. The Tequila flowed.
A few months ago I was curious as to who is considered the greatest guitar player of all time and started digging on RUclips and fell upon the Srv sound check video and spending the night just clicking anything with his name on it, and now he's my favorite musician and in my opinion the greatest guitar player of all time. He's also a really smooth dresser.
It's a rather cold and lonely world without this dude and his amazing band. And not an heir in sight. How long must we wait. Almost thirty years of compromise and mediocrity.
AnalogOpher HAHAHAHA are you serious????? He just copy catted Real Bluesman..He got on MTV and that was a lot of peoples indruction to blues..too bad SRV wasnt really that good of a representative of Blues but rather a mediocre guitarist...nothing original no innovative style or technique..most important NO FEELING OR EMOTION!!!! Just flashy clothes and a guy show boating to audiences that couldnt discern a counterfeit from the genuine article.. Go back and educate your self on The Blues..go buy a cheap electric guitar and amp look up on youtube how to play what he played ..then you will understand how Stevie wasnt really that good...Just A pop blues wannabe. That got lucky on some MTV videos LOL. It is tragic and sad that he got killed not disrespecting that. If he would have kept going another 10 or 20 years and improving got off the drugs and got serious and forgot about the flashy hats and capes and clothes got down to business he could have been great
Matooley O'Brien I want you to listen to lenny then tell me he had no feeling. Playing fast does not equal a lack of feeling he was capable of both and the vast majority of guitarists would agree.
there's a lot of great guitarist...Jimi, Duane Allman, Santana, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, just to name a few. But no one, NO ONE, can top this cat, SRV is hands down the best guitarist we've even seen!
I’m 22 years old. With the confidence that I can say as a young musician, I’ve never seen this level of musicianship and tightness of a group in a show. Long live Stevie Ray Vaughn and double trouble!
Stevie was one of those rare guitarists who could play "lead-rhythm" guitar. Another guy who came before him was a master at it. You might want to check out Terry Kath with the original group, Chicago and just about anything "live" such as 1970 at Tanglewood.
I was floating on an old tin can in the Navy 1983 and a buddy in the engine room say Rusty, you gotta hear this dude. Instant connection and I knew right then Stevie Ray was what the world was missing .
Ok ,This is officially the best version i have heard of this song .Sure do miss S.R.V least we forget .R.I.P. Thank's for the amazing music and for staying true .
truly there will never be another like him. these videos are a testament to his greatness and if you were lucky enough to see him perform in person (as I did in 1984 in Hawaii with Jeff Beck!!!) it was truly a transcendent experience.
Imagine doing THIS, then going on to do God knows how many more songs for the set. Then waking up and doing it again the next day.. and the next day.. and NEVER ONCE losing that fire. Day after day, night after night...
I mean....how?!...just so unreal and humbling...he was a channel...one with the music, one with the instrument. He wasn't "playing guitar". He was the guitar, and the guitar was him. This video is mind-blowing.
saw him at the hollywood bowl in '88. BB King opened for him. Went for SRV, left blown away by BB King's live show. Not at all what I expected. much more high energy than I expected.

I saw SRV and Double Trouble about 3 months after this at Purdue University in a little 1000 seat venue called the Loeb Playhouse. Walked up to 2nd row after 3 songs with my friend and watched the rest of the concert. I was hooked after that.
I got talked into seeing Stevie at Radio City when I was About 15 or 16. 10 rows back and Carol Miller and Mark Goodman from MTV in front of us. So grateful my friend Phil talked me into it. Unbelievable!

It's so adorable when the bass play starts swaying and so does stevie

This may be the best version of "Couldn't Stand the Weather". Reese's piano solo has a really cool jazzy sound to it and Stevie's guitar solo following it is just mind blowing. Thanks for the upload!
Reese is filthy on the piano. To think that he could have been with the Allman Brothers, except that he can't sing.
all are really good… my fave is the Austin City Limits version :)
YES!! Reese is such an Underrated keyboard player! And a PERFECT compliment to Stevie's guitar 😎🎸🎹
Fantastic piano solo indeed, perfectly complements the vibe
As much as I know SRV music...
no matter what I whatch or who posted it... I still wish he was he was here!!! Still no one like him... SRV!!!!!!!
Hay SRV FAMILY well I can't begin to tell y'all how much I LOVE this video I so wish SRV was still here with us all so we could go to his concerts. And being from Texas myself... well enough said
Well said brother! Hello from a fellow Texan!
@@GrumpyMJK Hey brother my name is Joe and I'm from El Paso Texas where you from? I've been a fan since I could remember how bout you?
Jose Morales Well oddly enough I actually first became a fan back in the 80’s trying to figure out who played on David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance” track. Read somewhere later on in a guitar magazine (remember those? Ha!) that it was SRV. Been a fan since! Well, hello El Paso from Laredo!
In an interview with Chris Layton, Chris stated Jimmie Vaughan was the one who suggested the intermittent pauses during the opening of this song.
And to think he can sing on top of all of this playing??? It’s insane, HE is insane. RIP SRV, one of the best to ever do it
This man was put here for a reason. He found the reason in his lifetime. I’m grateful he did
I miss the days when musicians were actually musicians...imagine how much more music this guitar virtuoso could’ve produced if he were here today...you’re solely missed my friend.
I could listen to this performance on a loop for the rest of my life.
Another deceased Legend
I was blessed to see him in Melbourne 1984.
I put the axe in the cupboard for a good while after that.
I already had the Texas Flood album so I knew what to expect
I don't know if we can ever get any better that Stevie.

I do
I don't play guitar very well.
Rhythm and lead and everything in between….STEVIE!!!!!!!!!!!!
In interviews he always expressed a profound sense of humility, often to the point of self-deprecation, while simultaneously lauding his influences and heroes. And then you hear him play. He was SO special.
Perfectly stated. In his eyes he’d never live up to his idols.
In reality, he was better than all of them!
@@kayesetchfield9089 eh. Technically sure. But they invented it. He borrowed from all of them. So we’ll call it a draw.
@@kayesetchfield9089 to me, music is NOT a competition.
@@SixStringSicario his greatest gift was being able to express the love he felt for the music that he played. It was indelible.
This is absolutely my favorite Stevie Ray song I wish I had the chance to see him in concert would love to own one of his cool hats
You can buy one of his hats on line.
He makes it look so damn easy. Can you imagine all the great material he'd have come up with if he hadn't died?
We can say that about all the great artists/inventors/etc, that we have lost Mrs Squirrel, but I agree some of our great artists died far too young, , taking their talent with them!
We still have Eric Clapton.........
That's called hard work and paying dues. Left this world way too soon. RIP. Stevie
Nuttygirl : That’s really all I ever said...
I am so sad that he was taken from us too soon!
Plus, I remember he said, ‘I feel so good now!’, and
that makes me more sad!
#SRV deserved #Children and #Everything he Cared About: ❤️✊🏾🌍✌🏾
luuke luketer he's overrated af
I was lucky enough to see SRV play at the Sydney Opera house in 1984. I saw him again in 1986 at the Hordern pavilion also in Sydney. Great memories. Stevie is still sadly missed
He's so good it's just ridiculous! 🤩 This is my favorite all-time SRV guitar intro. Love it! 😛😜😊
Certainly one of their best live performances that I've heard. Fine piano solo as well. American music didn't often get much better than this back in 1985, at least for my money. A true talent still greatly missed...
His solos were just incredible and pretty special. So gifted man
Loving the little dance Stevie and Tommy are doing while Chris and Reese are solid born grooving.
So many people can play great but they miss that one thing that's so hard to get. Soul and the groove. That's Stevie.
There is NOBODY cooler than SRV! RIPSRV!!
+Craig Winter
"Ya got It" Stevie's Awesome!!!!!!!!
This is one of my favorite SRV songs (if I had to choose a list of favorite SRV songs). They are all great.
Craig Winter i agree
my fav Life without u bec of his speech abt getting clean on it!!!!
Craig Winter Jimi Hendrix ix cooler RIPJH
It’s crazy how this isn’t in the greatest performance solos of all time lists like stairway to heaven, comfortably numb etc are.
I was so lucky to see and hear Steve . It's was at Ringe Festival in Denmark. I was totally blowen away. The way he could play with the guitar at the back just in Jimi Hendrix style was something that i never will forget. I'm lucky I have seen it.💕
💕💕
You either have it or you don,t God blessed Stevie and we were lucky to have been able to share the gift, you will live for ever!!!.
His rhythm chops were unbelievable!
I heard Mike McCready say that he saw Stevie live once and when he started Couldn't Stand the Weather the sky just opened up and it started raining like crazy. He said it was an epic moment. Stevie is the stuff of absolute legend.
This man put every ounce of his being into every performance. Amazing...
Extremely talented guitar virtuoso. It was a damn shame he left us to early.
This is the quintessential SRV and Double Trouble performance. It has a little of everything that they stood for. Such badasses.
What a talent! The synergy between the band is breathtaking!!!
Absoletely incredible
Seriously one of the best bands ever to grace a stage.
I would give 20 years of my life away JUST to see Stevie perform.
No you wouldn't. That would just be silly.
Damn that has to be one of the best rhythm sections ever.
Time stops when SRV plays.
This is the song that got me hooked on SRV waaaay back in 85'. Cried my eyes out when I heard on the radio he was gone. RIP STEVIE...we all miss you so much!
Luv that piano!!! 🎵😎 2020 Greetings from the Pacific Northwest, our Pacific Wonderland
I am always looking for the second guitarist when SRV is playing.... damn.
yup...
That's why after I saw him live, I told people "He's playing lead and rhythm at the same time!!!".
It took me so long to realize there weren't a couple of other guitarists up there. I was like "where are they?" All Stevie, all the time!
6:00
@@booifojoe that's the bass player
One of my most favorite jams of all time, saw Stevie at Red Rocks 3 times, it was incredible when he jammed Couldn't Stand the Weather!!!
Yes SRV had a connection to a higher dimension, unreal talent.
I agree srv and Duane Allman with his slide are number 1 in my opinion.
He is mine too everything he does is out of this world mindblowing he is definitely on another level
another candidate could be Chet Atkins
Stevie was killed because of his talent
It's a rather cold and lonely world without this dude and his amazing band. And not an heir in sight. How long must we wait. Almost thirty years of compromise and mediocrity.
have you checked out jimmy d lane , kirk fletcher, greg koch
Matooley O'Brien You’re a fucking idiot. No feeling? Take a step back, do some research, shut the fuck up, and come back when you’re not so ignorant.
Did Hendrix have no “feeling” because he wore a kimono?
there's a lot of great guitarist...Jimi, Duane Allman, Santana, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, just to name a few.
Luke Watson Sounds like you’re inside of an engine toward the end-well oiled machine precision
Thank's for the amazing music and for staying true .
glenn scott sarconi Agreed this is so tight, it’s like listening to an engine, locomotive-mesmerizing
truly there will never be another like him.
these videos are a testament to his greatness and if you were lucky enough to see him perform in person
(as I did in 1984 in Hawaii with Jeff Beck!!!) it was truly a transcendent experience.
Imagine doing THIS, then going on to do God knows how many more songs for the set. Then waking up and doing it again the next day.. and the next day.. and NEVER ONCE losing that fire. Day after day, night after night...
We have to say that he was very young
Musicians are a strange breed. We should thank God they exist.
@@johnchronic6725 for sure
Had an opportunity to see this madman years ago, sadly he passed before i got another chance..
I saw him too just once, in Finland. Kuusisaari, Oulu. Remember that allways!
I just want everyone to see and hear this masterpiece of music. It's a revelation! This is how beautiful life can be.
Wow. SRV always brings the tears to my eyes. The emotion he brings through that guitar is the most beautiful stuff I have ever heard.
Me2 reading all the comments
That pause in the middle of things is TRUE MAGIC!
👍
I mean....how?!...just so unreal and humbling...he was a channel...one with the music, one with the instrument. He wasn't "playing guitar". He was the guitar, and the guitar was him. This video is mind-blowing.
So many great shows were recorded at the Capitol Theater. Thank God !
saw him at the hollywood bowl in '88. BB King opened for him. Went for SRV, left blown away by BB King's live show. Not at all what I expected. much more high energy than I expected.
Best version and video of this outrageous song
This intro...w/the breaks is just so, gripping and powerful. Best??
for sure. it even seems like they extended the slow pick up they do on the intro here. total feel and timing as a unit.not equaled since the Experience. destroying sht
jemjean100 Tightesr performance I’ve ever seen-sounds like locomotive at times
My fave virtuoso! Miss you Stevie! xo
