The sad thing is, the officers they put on the streets don't have to know the law per se. They are instructed to 'call in' for advice from their superiors on how to deal with something they don't know. This, of course, means detaining someone and giving them a stop and investigate record, and, believe me, these records do exist in the depths of the PNC, even if no further action was needed.

Actually it is legal to take pictures with a drone in a public place/ private areas (if flown over publics houses), it does however become an offence if it causes a nuisance or disturbance that it gets reported by the public.
