I was just about to ask for that in writing when he said "so you don't have to turn up tomorrow"
Given their behaviour so far alarm bells rang and I said fine... And turned up anyway, with a recording of that call along with all my other evidence.

Until I stood up to say yes the defence IS present, the lawyer shat himself and suddenly remembered to drop the case, I asked to go ahead anyway as I had recorded proof of serious crimes by capita/tvl to be told they dropped the case so sorry you have to bring your own case forward at huge costs.. On the day I moved in an inspector called I let him in as had nothing to hide and he could see my stuff was piled up in boxes. I told him the TV was only used to play the games console. He asked if I could switch it on which I did and showed him static on all 4 channels. He said as the TV was working I needed a licence as it could potentially receive TV if I just tuned it in. I was young and believed him assuming as he was an inspector he knew the rules. He asked me to sign a form just confirming his visit which I did as by this point I just wanted him gone. Looking back now I realise the form may have been a blank 'declaration of guilt' form. I think once he had my signature on the bottom he probably fabricated a false story filling out the rest of the form once he was back in his van. I ended up buying a TV licence for 2 years just to play a games console until I became more clued up on the law. The scumbags will tell all sorts of lies to get their commission. I am amazed that the UK still has TV licenses. We had them here in Australia when TV was introduced in 1956 but licenses were finally abandoned in 1974 after a couple of years of mass refusal to pay. If an inspector came to the door, he (was always a male) was simply and politely told to "bugger off". The magistrates courts were swamped, internal administration costs spiraled and that was the end of it.

I don't know how things work in England - but in Scotland there needs to be a 2nd witness to enable any prosecution ( 2 Police officers not just 1) - otherwise it's just a he said/she said. Even if you were daft enough to admit to a lone officer that you were watching live tv without a license - in Scotland at least - there would need to be a 2nd witness to this to comply with the burdon of proof requirement.

My 94 year old father lives in a care home that has twice sent in the forms for him and other residents to get a ARC licence, but when I contacted TV licence office they say they have not received anything from them, I believe they are doing this on purpose because they want his £149 and not the ARC price of £7.50, also the arc process is made far to complicated to set up, and when I first contacted my dad's care home they had no knowledge of the ARC licence, why are the TV licence people not telling care homes that they may be able to get this licence, but I think we all know why. £££££.

Some people from tv licencing don't tell you they're from tv licencing to catch you out! had a bloke in a suit from tv licence stop me as I was coming in from work saying he'd come to fix the speakers on my TV (1st red flag who wears a suit to fix a tv )My reply was i don't have a tv so why would I need the speakers fixed, he insisted I had called and made an appointment for the speakers to be fixed, showed me a note pad with my name and address, when I asked him what was the phone number left, he said you wouldn't leave a phone number (2nd red flag),who makes an appointment without leaving a contact number. The bloke pissd me off so much going on about the tv that it ended up with my neighbours coming out of their homes from me shouting and swearing at him, I told him he was on cctv pointing to a camera, and to get off my property and if he or any of his friends came back I'd have them arrested. 2 days later i received a tv license exemption certificate. I wouldn't recommend an altercation such as mine, just keep an eye out for the weirdos, who turn up saying that they've come to do something, if I'd said there's nothing wrong with my tv instead of i don't have a tv then I'd have been caught out.

Normally this doesn't appear on a standard CRB check but it will appear on an enhanced CRB check when applying for certain positions such as security, legal work and working with children etc. Non payment of court fines is a separate issue usually dealt with debt recovery processes.
