  • My 2nd jiu-jitsu competition is here! With four months of BJJ experience under my belt and two months after my first competition.
    This one takes place at Jiu-Jitsu World League in Fullerton, CA. I competed at 168 pounds in the white belt bracket.
    Apologies for sounding incredibly monotone. I couldn't get myself to do another voiceover (':
    More jiu-jitsu videos on the way! Enjoy!

    I've noticed those with a wrestling background are more dominant which rack up the points in the current rule set. Good stuff

      In wrestling you are responsible for your opponent's safe return to the mat or else you could be DQ'd.

      I think another good opponent for you would be Mr. Kevin Lloyd of Great Britain. He is trained in muay Thai, bjj, freestyle wrestling, and legit catch wrestling ( the father of freestyle wrestling and pro wrestling). Yes he is a pro wrestler but he is also a LEGIT assistant coach at snake pit Wigan ( catch wrestling). I think you should try catch wrestling competition. There is no rank in catch wrestling competition. And it real competition.

    I’m still watching currently. On that short arm D’arce - switch to an S grip. Use your elbow to close his head as you shoot your choke arm further then lock up your bicep grip. So far, so good!

    Piece of advice that helped me, when you are losing the back bait them and set the arm triangle up. It's absolutely money and you would've hat it 4 or 5 times in your matches

  • @g8eo3
    @g8eo3 5 месяцев назад

    For the armbar in the first match, try getting the kimura grip to control the arm. Then you can bring your leg over their face in a controlled fashion and sit back for the armbar.

    BJJ and Judo naturally do look a bit like wrestling however the lack of a gi makes no gi BJJ look even more like wrestling but it can also be due to the fact that many BJJ practitioners do in fact have wrestling backgrounds.

    • @tichtran8792
      @tichtran8792 Год назад +1

      Make sense that nogi bjj look like wrestling. But look like SUBMISSION wrestling. There are many forms of submission wrestling. Including judo( have pin and suplex), catch wrestling, and even luta Livre ( like catch wrestling and judo but NO pin).

    • @tichtran8792
      @tichtran8792 Год назад +1

      Plus Maeda was also a catch wrestler. But people will say catch wrestling got submission from Japanese. Which I ADMIT was probably TRUE. In fact freestyle wrestling have a lot of throws that looks like judo throw.

    • @tichtran8792
      @tichtran8792 Год назад +1

      Watch 1937 NCAA wrestling on RUclips. And tell me if it doesn't resemble nogi grappling. But no submission in amateur catch wrestling ( name for freestyle and folkstyle wrestling).

  • @SkepticalAaron
    @SkepticalAaron Год назад +7

    Not a scoring take down. Your takedown blasted both of you out of bounds and the rules of your tournament-and basically every tournament- are that you cannot score points out of bounds.
    Also, you said that you wrestled in high school and college and according to the rules you can't compete in the white belt/ beginners division in no-gi if you have any college wrestling experience. That's pretty much a universal rule too that beginners divions are for new grapplers not ex college wrestlers.

    • @RyanJuliano
      @RyanJuliano  Год назад +5

      Thank you for your input Aaron.
      I wrestled for fun throughout college to stay in shape for rugby. I have not done any formal collegiate wrestling experience
      I also asked JJWL if I could compete at intermediate and they said no, so here we are ❤️

    • @SkepticalAaron
      @SkepticalAaron Год назад

      @@RyanJuliano Hey, if you asked them to be moved up and they said no then that on them. It's interesting to me that tournament only specifically cites college wrestling. Every tournament I've seen usually says any wrestling experience is enough to make you move up. I guess to them I could start wrestling at 4yrs old, be a multiple time state champ in high school and then not do college wrestling and be considered a "beginner" . I think bjj should include more wrestling rules, especially with all the stalling and out of bounds riding people do.

    • @googlegmail9888
      @googlegmail9888 Год назад

      @@SkepticalAaron I don’t know, I feel like bjj is a completely different sport that wrestling so beginner universally should be fair because intermediate is a good jump, wrestling doesn’t even finish fights just positioning, strength, and takedowns? Not too much of an advantage it’s not like they know anything bjj wise
