This is the greatest cover of a song I've ever heard. They honor the original melody but make it their own.
I love the raw, deep grittiness he brings to the song..paul simon said he really loved this cover..
Allison Krause when you say nothing at all.. 2best
the other is Hurt that Johnny Cash covered 9 inch nails. Trent R says that Johnny made it his and that he would not sign this song as it now belonged to Johnny Cash.
@@luisrosa7772 actually...Trent hated the idea. He saw the video and that changed his mind. But he didn't like the original thought of someone doing one of his most personal songs
Agree 100%!!
Fifty-Five years later and this song is more relevant than ever!
Sad to see, but true...
And Pentatonix version was more hopeful. What a powerful song.
It's been that long? OMG.....I just noticed the grey hair and wrinkles. DAMN. I'm old. I remember being filled with awe when I first heard the original, moving and poignant. This version blows me away!
Yes mam it is. Everyone should understand what this song means.
fuck you
This was my dad's favorite song. I'd catch him listening to it on repeat. And yes, this version. So we played it at his funeral before the actual ceremony started. Still makes me cry every time I hear it.
My condolences for your father's passing
I'll admit that your dad had great taste in music
I know exactly what you are feeling. I had to bury my own father when he wasn't even 53 years old yet. There would have been and would be so many songs to play for his memory and hearing those even after a decade of his passing still tear my soul often.
Sorry for your loss. I tell my wife all the time that I want this song to be played at my funeral
Damn I felt this. ♥
Andy brown,.....my heart goes out to you , i am not religious but may your dad find eternal peace where ever he is .
Take care brother,take care.
I love your way of expressing thoughts in bubbles instead of constantly pausing it. Well done!
yes!!!
Definitely
Very clever. Like this guy.
Only issue is he can't monetize like that. =(
David Draiman has otherworldly vocal range. Just incredible.
Agreed but i think i am more impressed with the control he has of his voice its insane
He has a very wide range but he cannot beat Freddie's Mercury's range. Freddie had 8 octaves.
Hes got good range, but otherworldy? Cmon its an exageration.
David certainly has a rather unique voice, it can easily be recognized and his vocals are really hard to reproduce because hes just one of THESE singers
however saying his voice is otherworldly is exaggeration, Chester Bennington had an otherworldly voice and so did Freddie Mercury but David just doesnt
have you ever heard how many octaves and how many vocal chords people like Chester and Freddie had? it was truly ridiculous
Chester literally had 2 different vocal chords in his voice and he could easily either hit a very strong octave or one of the softest octaves i have ever heard in music and he could do that at will instantly and i dont think i need to explain Freddie's unreal chord
if you really require a sample as an example, listen to One Step Closer, Runaway or Forgotten by Linkin Park
@@xGoodOldSmurfehx Mike Patton and Chris Cornell as well.
Simon and Garfunkel's version was a warning.
Disturbed's version is rage because the warning was ignored.
Nice !!!
THIS!!!
well said
Brilliant!
Perfect
This cover can not be matched!! Disturbed shakes your soul on this one!! perfection!!
Believe it or not, he was sick during this performance. He’s a classicly trained singer with an amazing voice.
Gives me full-body chills every time I hear it. Bonus-Tim Foust of Home Free and Peter Hollens covered this brilliantly.
😲WOW!!
Seeing how is so well classical trained and ive ben listening to this guy since i was a little kid with disturbed, beeing abit ill i think makes him even better with even graspier voice. He has such a awesome voice and are so good at what it does so i think it just gives it a mix :D
For the album version he hadn't planned to record anymore that day and had gotten a bit baked on weed. The sound engineer played the opening piano riff and he then spent the next three hours at the mic recording different versions to get the final one that was used.
Maybe why they used Auto-Tune?
I couldn't imagine what it felt like to here that live in that audience. They hit the jackpot on that!
I've probably watched 10-15 reactions to this version by disturb. I never get tired of the reaction. The surprise on the faces the awe. Every reaction, that I've watched, goes the same way. When video is over....a loss for words...I LOVE IT!
Jamal, I'm 62 yrs. old and had never in my life been to a concert. My husband's company had 4 tickets to see Disturbed in concert a few years back. I was thrilled to go and see Dave Draiman perform this song. I had to sit through lots of heavy metal (with my earplugs in) to finally see him do this song. On a hot and humid night in August with fire pyrotechnics all around him, Dave gave the best rendition of this awesome song. I was covered in goosebumps the whole time. I loved seeing your reaction to this! Truly a work of music artistry at it's finest!!!
Draimans voice is amazing. The first time I heard this, I was crying like a baby. This was one of my mom's favorite songs, and I absolutely adore Disturbed. He did it justice. I just wish she was alive to hear it.
The true power of music in its rawest form and he was sick during this one lol. It was not a performance but an experience, a moment.
David was trained as a cantor for his synagogue. He has an amazing range.
I believe the correct term is hazzan. Just FYI.
He was a cantor, singing Jewish prayers and he is classical trained
I just love this version, his voice brings tears to my eyes
I watch reactions of this particular version, not to watch the song again, and again, and again. But to see their facial expressions.
SO DAMN GOOD!!
@@jamelakajamal I loved your :o when you heard his growl.
👍🏾
This song generates record amounts of stankface 😂
I'm 48 years old and listened to this song for the first time 2 nights ago. I was undone by this, the beauty of it. I was crying !!
Much as I love Simon & Garfunkel’s version the first time I heard Disturbed’s cover the blew the original right out of the water for me. The power in this song is unbelievable, I can understand why Simon cried. I hope everyone’s seen the official video of Disturbed’s version - very very evocative and thought provoking. Magic!
This song, and the way David Draiman sings it, seems to perfectly capture the current pain and despair that many Americans are feeling right now as the silence from policy makers is deafening .
I can’t say how happy I am to see the current trend of cross-cultural reactions. I myself have listened to music from all over the world all my life, but not many of my friends branched out, and I suspect a lot of folks never branched out. But that seems to be changing now, and ppl are being exposed to (and ENJOYING) music from other cultures and I love the trend. Keep up the good work!
Changing my life one song at a time 🙌🏾
I'm like that as well. I enjoy so many different genres of music. There is so much out there to be appreciated if people can just give it a chance!
but seems to more of a "Western" point of view. I grew up also listening to African, Arabian/Middle Eastern and Latin folk songs. Also, classical music - yeah, what a blend :D
irishgrl : SAME HERE - i have always LOVED MUSIC FROM EVERYWHERE. Soooo glad to find this channel, just yesterday... ThankYou♥️💃♥️💃♥️💃♥️🕺♥️🕺♥️🌎🙋♀️

Uh, no, world music is more widely appreciated than ever. K-Pop, Bosanova, African, etc. I'm not sure what you're trying to say.
Your gentle appreciation for the music of my growing up years touches my heart. I feel the goodness of the human you are. Humbled by your experience shared musically. Thank you.
I started playing "The Sound of Silence" in 1976 or 1977. I was scouring my dad's album collection for something new to listen to and I came across A Simon and Garfunkel album "The Sounds of Silence". Paul Simon had a pretty big hit around that time called "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover" which I liked, so I thought I would give the album a listen. I was immediately dumbstruck by "The Sound of Silence". All I remember is that I kept playing the song over and over on a continuous loop. In those days vinyl albums were the primary media form for music. I probably ruined the needle on the turntable by my continuous restarting of the song. The song spoke to me, although at that tender age I had only a minor understanding of the significant lyrics of the song. This song was written the year of my birth so it has always had a special place in my heart. Now more than ever the relevance, cultural significance and importance of this song cannot be overstated. I finally heard "Disturbed
's" version through you "J aka J" and it was powerful. Thanks for another ride down memory lane.
What a range - what soft texture to that raspy power - that touches a lot of levels of emotion
Disturbed!! I'm 73 years old and this song (Sound of Silence) from this group, has just showed up to me. I can't get away from it now. This guy can "sang!" Everything about the entire arrangement is beautiful. Anyone doing a critique has the same shock I had when hearing it for the first time. I'm grateful it came to me, though I can't recall how it did so. It's a song that was well known from the 60's and was a favorite of mine though now I'm touched even more by the version from the group Disturbed. Now I can't wait to get into them more. Thank you!!
Wow! This rendition still hits me in the feels. Nothing else is as powerful or haunting.
Yes Amazing 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
You need to listen to "The Light" by Disturbed! It is an awesome song about never giving up on yourself. As a person who has experienced life altering injuries...part of me rose up on the inside and gave me the strength to not give up.
I am 62 years old and being disabled has never been easy...but I have refused to give up...no matter what!
My favorite cover of all time, truly world class vocals and an amazing arrangement. Everything the song could have been…he found it! You should also react to Sam Cieri’s AGT audition, amazing.
This is one of those rare covers that utterly and completely surpasses the original. Simply beautiful.
🙌Yes!! Soak it in man lol His voice is stunningly beautiful, The video to this is almost haunting, it's definitely a must see!
Yes, so emotional and beautiful at the same time
It IS haunting.
This was a big hit for Simon and Garfunkel in1964. After seeing this performance Paul Simon E-Mailed the Disturbed singer his approval. You've heard 2 covers now; why not check out the original. ( I seem to have exceeded the limit for sending people links without Y.T. considering them spam for some reason so I won't)
AMAZING!!!!
Paul Simon said that when someone told him about this cover he was doubtful, so he went and listened to it. By the end of the song, he said it had affected him so profoundly that he found himself in tears. That's the biggest compliment any musician can get when they pay tribute to another musician's work.
@@justyo96, I'm a 6'5", 260lb tough guy and it hit me hard, too. The absolute emotional inflection David puts into this is on another level.
The original is pure gold
That amazing performance and David is sitting down..that power and emotion and range and he is sitting down...AMAZING!!
The song STUNS EVERONE....TAKES U PLACES Emotionally and Spiritually that u cannot explain. NO NUDITY. NO OFFENSIVE LANGUAGE OR GESTURES. YOU ARE JUST STUNNED!!!
He's amazing! He had the flu and still sang like this!!
I know you did this a year ago but watching this just now was gold. Hearing this blew my mind too, and I've listened to disturbed since the beginning. Powerful piece of music and a powerful message, but this made me feel it in my soul.
Simon and Garfunkel wrote this song!!!
Disturbed know owns this song!!!
You can't deny the grawls effectiveness
How can you not be floored……thank you, thank you, thank you…….the musicians, artist and creative people are the only reason I can survive living in this world.
Disturbed is a great metal band! This cover was unlike their normal stuff. I think it’s the best cover of it! “Stupify” and “Down with a Sickness” are amazing songs by Disturbed. They started around 2000.
👍🏾
Listen to their covers of Shout and also Land of Confusion
I’m so glad you watched this live performance on Conan. To me, it’s so much better than their video. David is amazing! I loved your reaction. Also, David supposedly had the flu when he did this and still nailed it!
Got to see Disturbed 4x live and never disappointed ! David Draiman voice live really is incredible ! Still one of the best concerts I've ever seen
I've heard this song dozens of times and I still get goosebumps
This song take your breath away! While watching you become speechless, not to many songs can do that, plus a powerful message.
The way he sings this song hits you in your feels . Woooooooh
Lol. Yeah. He leaves you with no words. The ABSOLUTE best remake EVER. You guys call them covers, we say remake. Same thing. Simon and Garfunkel were before my time, but I knew who they were. Everyone did. I'm from the mid 70' to early 80' a most awesome music ever. ROCK AND ROLL. Simon was brought to tears hearing this. Was exactly how it was ment to be sung he said. Well done. I'm a fan for life. Amazing, trained, classical trained baritone voice.
the best way to know if someone is truly enjoying and is captivated by the music.. is not by the bobbing head.. nor the tapping feet.. it is... as you did... simply sit in silence so the magic stays with you.. ending with a simple... wow... and a deep breath! Excellent reaction.. well done!
Draimen is absolutely God sent. He is a master of his art and is always looking to improve. He had a one shot album while Disturbed was on hiatus called Device where he did a cover with Lizzy Hale (a bada$$ in her own right) of "If I close my eyes forever" check it out!
👍🏾
That is a great album and the cover is wicked! I don't think a lot of people know of Device but it's good stuff! David could sing the ABC's and it would be awesome lol.
Charisma,voice,power and talent. Gorgeous blend!
Yes indeed🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
ANYTHING played and sung by Disturbed will blow your mind. this man has the voice of a GOD, HANDS DOWN
The original is one of my favorite songs and when I heard this for the first time I was brought to tears and had goosebumps because it was so hauntingly beautiful
A great song and singer, wonderful. Perfect music and interpretation. Great. A 65 year old white lady and a much younger black man having the same reaction....AWESOME!!! 👌😘
His story is so inspiring. He literally went from helping his father run a nursing home. To working his butt off to get his band off the ground...TO THIS!
And he has not one but like 3 or 4 college degrees 😳
And he had the flu and a fever during that performance. Amazing.
I have never heard this song done so well. Very emotional and moving. The singer truly brought to life the beauty and the disturbing truth of the words written by Paul Simon.
Loved your reaction and the thought bubbles. Novel way to just enjoy the performance without talking. Thanks.
Thank You🙏🏾
love this song. so amazing coming out of such a band with a hard rock background
This song is such a warning! I can’t listen to it enough. He is absolutely AMAZING!
Very few songs give me chills but this cover does every time!!! It's my favorite!!!
For me the deepest and best low voice ever heard and such a great singer and performer! Gotta love that! ;)
👍🏾
I love how it just put smile on your face. This song is incredible.
One of my most favorite bands! Love Disturbed! I grew up with 70s music. Today's metal is way better.
David Draiman...a voice to die for. A powerful yet soulful voice that can go from warm baritone to angelic tenor, from clear as a crystal to rasp/distortion and back on a dime. He has a timbre in his voice that I've never heard before.....just hauntingly beautiful and pure tonal properties to it! An awesome talent and obvious training to deliver what he does!! Can sing like an angel or the devil ! Loved your reaction and your take on David's performance Jamel or Jamal....lol. Good job! Try "Deceiver", "The Night", "Indestructible", "The Light" and "Violence Fetish" by Disturbed too.
Love your reaction. He won an Emmy for that performance
I love this version, to me it feels more emotionally charged than the studio release.
I'm a guy and when first saw this I was in tears and it brought me closure and I'm glad
That vocal effect you noted is what voice professionals call Vocal Fry, and what duffers sometimes refer to as “angry Cookie Monster.” The amazing talent of the man gives him the ability to kick-in just enough of it to add overtones to the timbre of his already amazing natural voice, making the timbre so acoustically broad it sounds like it’s thundering down from Heaven.
What a voice! Never heard of him before, another goose bump song, like good church service. thanks & luv u dude. Wow! Beautiful!
So good🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
I absolutely love how you roll through the song without pausing it. Your reactions are genuine and I greatly appreciate your thoughts. You, my friend have a new sub!
It is wonderful to watch another human who is affected by music like I am... React to that song. Not only the song, but his voice and the instruments. I can see that music truly touches you... Not everyone is like that. I hope you continue on this journey... It's amazing.
An amazingly powerful arrangement and cover of the original Simon & Garfunkel rendition! I heard this live for the 1st time in the early 80s at the GA Tech Alexander Colliseum in Atlanta, with Simon & Garfunkel! It's hard to beat a classic, but he made it his own!
👍🏾
AWESOME! I am glad you listened all the way through without pausing! Ohhh I hate when people pause throughout a song,, ruins the true reaction and the flow of the song! But I was really diggin the cloud bubbles you have in your video! I liked your video and reaction! Thank you!!
Singer David Draiman said it was the most powerful and heart wrenching set of vocals he's recorded. You can feel it. Amazing!!! Simply amazing performance!! I get more from it every time I hear it.
Props to David and Disturbed, best version of this song in my eyes... Wanna hear a GOAT voice? Search "Dimash SOS I am singer"

Bro!! I love the honest reactions. I love you seeing the talents and music for how the artist wanted it to be experienced. I am glad I to am on this musical journey!! Thanks for the reactions bro its awesome!!
Music is always about the journey. There is so much music to love and listen to.
Yes indeed🙏🏾
Truly one of the most inspiring, emotional and incredible singing performances I have ever heard.
Disturbed DOWN WITH THE SICKNESS! One hell of a good song! David took lessons on how to do that growl without hurting his vocal cords. He is Classically trained and is a Cantor in the same Jewish Synagogue as his father. David Draiman is one of the most talented singers I’ve ever heard. As a trained Vocalist I recognize GREAT TALENT when I hear it! His emotions are evident in EVERY song he sings!
Great song... incredible band and musicians.... great voice...... great reaction...Jamel....... thank you !!!!
Have a listen (and react) to "The Light" by Disturbed. And maybe "A Reason to Fight" - the live extended version. Be warned, though. Have your tissues ready. It's quite emotional!
Hold on to the memories is alos a real good one heard it after I had just lost a good friend could not stop crying
This is a warning that if we do start listening to one another and helping each other out we are going to live in a world of silence Rock on brother
His vocal talents are on another level. Coming out of the vocal fry to a soft ending is beautiful
I collapse inside every time I see David Draiman clench his fist and belt out "PRAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYEEDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!"
Art Garfunkel's voice on" Bridge Over Troubled Water" :-) check it.
Classically trained Jewish singer doing a protest song that’s 60+ years old that’s also one of the top hard rock front men.... yup he’s just that damn good
Paul Simon himself thanked Disturbed for this, and shared the music video on their social media. David managed to absolutely capture the emotions intended in the lyrics. Great song, great cover.
Could you imagine, going to a Conan liveshow and then, they bring on Disturbed and you get to see the amazing/perfect moment of this happening live. I can imagine the reason the crowd was so quiet not because they asked them to keep the noise down before the show, but because they were stunned into Silence.
Your reaction was much like mine! All I know at the end I had tears running down my face!
Your reaction was so real and you can tell you let the music speak to your soul... Thank you for this
Thanks I could feel the passion🙏🏾
@@jamelakajamal I've watched quite a few reaction videos from several others and I can say without a doubt, I enjoy yours the most, because they're real, honest reactions. Thank you!
awesome brother! brought this 70 year old man to tears! thank you for this video!!!! thank you!!
He is so impressive in many ways. His talent as a singer with a lisp. His degrees. So many talked sheet that he used special voice in studio. He denies it and as you see here, with the flu, he is killing it. Better than the recorded version by a mile!
One of his newer disturbed is called “ a reason to fight” good song addressing addictions/emotional issues
Thank You🙏🏾
Yay! This is one of my favorite songs from Disturbed! Thanks for the react video! As for more Disturbed...
Music Videos by Disturbed:
The Vengeful One (one of my favorite songs)
A Reason to Fight (emotional distress)
Are You Ready (classic Disturbed; first single from their Evolution album that came out last year)
Thanks hopefully no copyright issues 🙏🏾
This is called raw talent. No autotune. Perfection.
Disturbed took a great song and added all the emotion to it. One of the best versions of any song I've ever heard.
Love this, love you, love those speech bubbles❣✌
THANK YOU ROWENA🙏🏾
The speech bubbles are totally awesome and greatly appreciated...I personally cringe when reactors pause every two seconds and/or talk over the singing.
You should watch the original official video of this. The scenes in it really compliment what he is singing. It is visually and emotionally stunning.
WHAT POWER !!!!!!!! AND CONTROL, SIMPLY AMAZING , WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The live concert performance is amazing! I work at a concert venue in my city, I'm a show runner and driver for the bands. His stage version, he's at the piano, sparks coming down from the rigging thru the entire song.
Thank you So Much for NOT interrupting the music to comment, the captions were great, Your reaction was right-on, again, Thank You for sharing it for the rest of us! ReactOn from ChiTown...
Thanks Will🙏🏾
This song has been a part of my life for over 40 years...now it'll be part of yours
this version of the legendary song is TIMELESS!!! sucks to have just ran out of tissues..
Who would've guessed that a Conan performance of Disturbed would turn iconic. This one is by far the most watched version of this song.
