Disturbed!! I'm 73 years old and this song (Sound of Silence) from this group, has just showed up to me. I can't get away from it now. This guy can "sang!" Everything about the entire arrangement is beautiful. Anyone doing a critique has the same shock I had when hearing it for the first time. Draimans voice is amazing. The first time I heard this, I was crying like a baby. This was one of my mom's favorite songs, and I absolutely adore Disturbed. He did it justice. I just wish she was alive to hear it.
Much as I love Simon & Garfunkel’s version the first time I heard Disturbed’s cover the blew the original right out of the water for me. The power in this song is unbelievable, I can understand why Simon cried. I hope everyone’s seen the official video of Disturbed’s version - very very evocative and thought provoking. Magic!
This song, and the way David Draiman sings it, seems to perfectly capture the current pain and despair that many Americans are feeling right now as the silence from policy makers is deafening .
David Draiman...a voice to die for. A powerful yet soulful voice that can go from warm baritone to angelic tenor, from clear as a crystal to rasp/distortion and back on a dime. He has a timbre in his voice that I've never heard before.....just hauntingly beautiful and pure tonal properties to it! An awesome talent and obvious training to deliver what he does!! Can sing like an angel or the devil ! Loved your reaction and your take on David's performance Jamel or Jamal....lol. Good job! Try "Deceiver", "The Night", "Indestructible", "The Light" and "Violence Fetish" by Disturbed too.
Seeing how is so well classical trained and ive ben listening to this guy since i was a little kid with disturbed, beeing abit ill i think makes him even better with even graspier voice. He has such a awesome voice and are so good at what it does so i think it just gives it a mix :D
For the album version he hadn't planned to record anymore that day and had gotten a bit baked on weed. The sound engineer played the opening piano riff and he then spent the next three hours at the mic recording different versions to get the final one that was used.
Your gentle appreciation for the music of my growing up years touches my heart. I feel the goodness of the human you are. Humbled by your experience shared musically. Thank you.
Bruh, at first I thought oh good he sounds pretty good, then he hit notes higher than you would think he could based on how deep his voice is - then he grinds the lyrics up with raging vocals - wow. This was something no one else could duplicate - he took a legendary Classic and made it his own. Wow

I started playing "The Sound of Silence" in 1976 or 1977. I was scouring my dad's album collection for something new to listen to and I came across A Simon and Garfunkel album "The Sounds of Silence". Paul Simon had a pretty big hit around that time called "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover" which I liked, so I thought I would give the album a listen. I was immediately dumbstruck by "The Sound of Silence". All I remember is that I kept playing the song over and over on a continuous loop. In those days vinyl albums were the primary media form for music. I probably ruined the needle on the turntable by my continuous restarting of the song. The song spoke to me, although at that tender age I had only a minor understanding of the significant lyrics of the song. This song was written the year of my birth so it has always had a special place in my heart. Now more than ever the relevance, cultural significance and importance of this song cannot be overstated. I finally heard "Disturbed 's" version through you "J aka J" and it was powerful. Thanks for another ride down memory lane.
I have always loved Simon & Garfunkel;; I grew up with them. But, Disturbed blows this song away!! It was fun to watch your reaction as I had the same one the first time I stumbled across this song. I was awestruck!
I can’t say how happy I am to see the current trend of cross-cultural reactions. I myself have listened to music from all over the world all my life, but not many of my friends branched out, and I suspect a lot of folks never branched out. But that seems to be changing now, and ppl are being exposed to (and ENJOYING) music from other cultures and I love the trend. Keep up the good work!
but seems to more of a "Western" point of view. I grew up also listening to African, Arabian/Middle Eastern and Latin folk songs. Also, classical music - yeah, what a blend :D
Lol. Yeah. He leaves you with no words. The ABSOLUTE best remake EVER. You guys call them covers, we say remake. Same thing. Simon and Garfunkel were before my time, but I knew who they were. Everyone did. I'm from the mid 70' to early 80' a most awesome music ever. ROCK AND ROLL. Simon was brought to tears hearing this. Was exactly how it was ment to be sung he said. Well done. I'm a fan for life. Amazing, trained, classical trained baritone voice.
I know you did this a year ago but watching this just now was gold. Hearing this blew my mind too, and I've listened to disturbed since the beginning. Powerful piece of music and a powerful message, but this made me feel it in my soul.
Singer David Draiman said it was the most powerful and heart wrenching set of vocals he's recorded. You can feel it. Amazing!!! Simply amazing performance!! I get more from it every time I hear it.

Now you just got the song that knocked me off of my feet. The first time I heard it was the official video. Then I learned that he fought his producers to record this. He wanted nothing to do with it. He is a Heavy Metal singer but he got this 100%.
I have never heard this song done so well. Very emotional and moving. The singer truly brought to life the beauty and the disturbing truth of the words written by Paul Simon.

That is a great album and the cover is wicked! I don't think a lot of people know of Device but it's good stuff! David could sing the ABC's and it would be awesome lol.
Loved your reaction and the thought bubbles. This song is incredible. It was incredible when Simon and Garfunkel did it in their folk rock way and it is incredible with David Draiman giving it the power. We should listen to the words.

You need to listen to "The Light" by Disturbed! It is an awesome song about never giving up on yourself. As a person who has experienced life altering injuries...part of me rose up on the inside and gave me the strength to not give up. I am 62 years old and being disabled has never been easy...but I have refused to give up...no matter what!
David put his heart and his soul into the song. Made us feel what we already did but 10 times more. I bet you I watched over 100 reactions and I still feel like it's a first time. I hope David knows the Lord because I think he could be an angel singing for eternity for all of us to hear. It's like an opera and God like all in one
That vocal effect you noted is what voice professionals call Vocal Fry, and what duffers sometimes refer to as “angry Cookie Monster.” The amazing talent of the man gives him the ability to kick-in just enough of it to add overtones to the timbre of his already amazing natural voice, making the timbre so acoustically broad it sounds like it’s thundering down from Heaven.
How can you not be floored……thank you, thank you, thank you…….the musicians, artist and creative people are the only reason I can survive living in this world.
Great reaction! I could tell it touched your soul. This guy just took this song to a different level. One of top three live performances of all-time. Peace.....
Disturbed is a great metal band! This cover was unlike their normal stuff. I think it’s the best cover of it! “Stupify” and “Down with a Sickness” are amazing songs by Disturbed. They started around 2000.
Disturbed DOWN WITH THE SICKNESS! One hell of a good song! David took lessons on how to do that growl without hurting his vocal cords. He is Classically trained and is a Cantor in the same Jewish Synagogue as his father. David Draiman is one of the most talented singers I’ve ever heard. As a trained Vocalist I recognize GREAT TALENT when I hear it! His emotions are evident in EVERY song he sings!
This song gives me a viserole feeling in my gut !! From what it looked like you got the same feeling listening to his powerful voice ! I've been with you for awhile and can't remember any other reaction of yours where you didn't stop in the middle of the song ! Love their version of this song ! His story is so inspiring. He literally went from helping his father run a nursing home. To working his butt off to get his band off the ground...TO THIS!
@@jamelakajamal I've watched quite a few reaction videos from several others and I can say without a doubt, I enjoy yours the most, because they're real, honest reactions. Thank you!
The live concert performance is amazing! I work at a concert venue in my city, I'm a show runner and driver for the bands. His stage version, he's at the piano, sparks coming down from the rigging thru the entire song.
The original is one of my favorite songs and when I heard this for the first time I was brought to tears and had goosebumps because it was so hauntingly beautiful
This was a big hit for Simon and Garfunkel in1964. After seeing this performance Paul Simon E-Mailed the Disturbed singer his approval. You've heard 2 covers now; why not check out the original. ( I seem to have exceeded the limit for sending people links without Y.T. considering them spam for some reason so I won't)
Paul Simon said that when someone told him about this cover he was doubtful, so he went and listened to it. By the end of the song, he said it had affected him so profoundly that he found himself in tears. That's the biggest compliment any musician can get when they pay tribute to another musician's work.
AWESOME! I am glad you listened all the way through without pausing! Ohhh I hate when people pause throughout a song,, ruins the true reaction and the flow of the song! But I was really diggin the cloud bubbles you have in your video! I liked your video and reaction! Thank you!!

An amazingly powerful arrangement and cover of the original Simon & Garfunkel rendition! I heard this live for the 1st time in the early 80s at the GA Tech Alexander Colliseum in Atlanta, with Simon & Garfunkel! It's hard to beat a classic, but he made it his own!
This cover can not be matched!! Disturbed shakes your soul on this one!! perfection!!
This is called raw talent. No autotune. Perfection.
This is the greatest cover of a song I've ever heard. They honor the original melody but make it their own.

David Draiman has otherworldly vocal range. Just incredible.
Agreed but i think i am more impressed with the control he has of his voice its insane
He has a very wide range but he cannot beat Freddie's Mercury's range. Freddie had 8 octaves.
Hes got good range, but otherworldy? Cmon its an exageration.
David certainly has a rather unique voice, it can easily be recognized and his vocals are really hard to reproduce because hes just one of THESE singers
however saying his voice is otherworldly is exaggeration, Chester Bennington had an otherworldly voice and so did Freddie Mercury but David just doesnt
have you ever heard how many octaves and how many vocal chords people like Chester and Freddie had? it was truly ridiculous
Chester literally had 2 different vocal chords in his voice and he could easily either hit a very strong octave or one of the softest octaves i have ever heard in music and he could do that at will instantly and i dont think i need to explain Freddie's unreal chord
if you really require a sample as an example, listen to One Step Closer, Runaway or Forgotten by Linkin Park

Loved your reaction and the thought bubbles. Novel way to just enjoy the performance without talking. Thanks.
Thank You🙏🏾
That vocal effect you noted is what voice professionals call Vocal Fry, and what duffers sometimes refer to as “angry Cookie Monster.” The amazing talent of the man gives him the ability to kick-in just enough of it to add overtones to the timbre of his already amazing natural voice, making the timbre so acoustically broad it sounds like it’s thundering down from Heaven.
For me the deepest and best low voice ever heard and such a great singer and performer! Gotta love that! ;)
👍🏾
How can you not be floored……thank you, thank you, thank you…….the musicians, artist and creative people are the only reason I can survive living in this world.
What a voice! Never heard of him before, another goose bump song, like good church service. thanks & luv u dude. Wow! Beautiful!
So good🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Great reaction!
👍🏾
Listen to their covers of Shout and also Land of Confusion
Wonderful rendition.His voice is great.
The way he sings this song hits you in your feels . Woooooooh
I love how it just put smile on your face. This song is incredible.
This song gives me a viserole feeling in my gut !! From what it looked like you got the same feeling listening to his powerful voice ! I've been with you for awhile and can't remember any other reaction of yours where you didn't stop in the middle of the song ! Love their version of this song ! Especially this specific live performance !! Definetley my favorite !!!
His story is so inspiring. He literally went from helping his father run a nursing home. To working his butt off to get his band off the ground...TO THIS!
And he has not one but like 3 or 4 college degrees 😳
I was so blown way by this performance too when I first saw it. My jaws dropped in awe just like you did towards the end.
Your reaction was so real and you can tell you let the music speak to your soul... Thank you for this
Thanks I could feel the passion🙏🏾
@@jamelakajamal I've watched quite a few reaction videos from several others and I can say without a doubt, I enjoy yours the most, because they're real, honest reactions. Thank you!
Great song... incredible band and musicians.... great voice...... great reaction...Jamel....... thank you !!!!
I've heard this song dozens of times and I still get goosebumps
The live concert performance is amazing! I work at a concert venue in my city, I'm a show runner and driver for the bands. His stage version, he's at the piano, sparks coming down from the rigging thru the entire song.
The original is one of my favorite songs and when I heard this for the first time I was brought to tears and had goosebumps because it was so hauntingly beautiful
I know, I know this is AMAZING!!!! My man can sing!!!!! I can't get enough of this song. Your reaction was great!!!!
Thank You🙏🏾
@@jamelakajamal Your Welcome💖🙏. Keep up the great work
This was a big hit for Simon and Garfunkel in1964. After seeing this performance Paul Simon E-Mailed the Disturbed singer his approval. You've heard 2 covers now; why not check out the original. ( I seem to have exceeded the limit for sending people links without Y.T. considering them spam for some reason so I won't)
AMAZING!!!!
Paul Simon said that when someone told him about this cover he was doubtful, so he went and listened to it. By the end of the song, he said it had affected him so profoundly that he found himself in tears. That's the biggest compliment any musician can get when they pay tribute to another musician's work.
@@justyo96, I'm a 6'5", 260lb tough guy and it hit me hard, too. The absolute emotional inflection David puts into this is on another level.
The original is pure gold
Got to see Disturbed 4x live and never disappointed ! David Draiman voice live really is incredible ! Still one of the best concerts I've ever seen
AWESOME! I am glad you listened all the way through without pausing! Ohhh I hate when people pause throughout a song,, ruins the true reaction and the flow of the song! But I was really diggin the cloud bubbles you have in your video! I liked your video and reaction! Thank you!!
This song is such a warning! I can’t listen to it enough. He is absolutely AMAZING!
Truly one of the most inspiring, emotional and incredible singing performances I have ever heard.
This version of the song absolutely blew me away!
Hauntingly Beautiful
Love your reaction. He won an Emmy for that performance
I get goosebumps every time I hear this version. Best cover of all time. ❤️
Yay! This is one of my favorite songs from Disturbed! Thanks for the react video! As for more Disturbed...
Music Videos by Disturbed:
The Vengeful One (one of my favorite songs)
A Reason to Fight (emotional distress)
Are You Ready (classic Disturbed; first single from their Evolution album that came out last year)
Thanks hopefully no copyright issues 🙏🏾
Going to watch more of you videos. You respected the song and musician by watching then commenting. A song cannot be truly absorbed by the listener if they keep interrupting it.❤️❤️⭐️⭐️
Thank you So Much for NOT interrupting the music to comment, the captions were great, Your reaction was right-on, again, Thank You for sharing it for the rest of us! ReactOn from ChiTown...
Thanks Will🙏🏾
WOW!! Is right! Gave me the chills 👏
Music is always about the journey. There is so much music to love and listen to.
Yes indeed🙏🏾
Disturbed took a great song and added all the emotion to it. One of the best versions of any song I've ever heard.
Glad to be on this music journey with you Jamal...please react to Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon & Garfunkel...jawdropping!
Jennifer Russ he should also react to sohyang’s version
That was a pure reaction!!! I have listened to this song at least 500 times and I am still shook from it every time. Dude is a BEAST... You do excellent reaction videos Jamel keep them coming. Do Depeche Mode "It's No Good" OR "Wrong" I would love to see what you think.
This is a warning that if we do start listening to one another and helping each other out we are going to live in a world of silence Rock on brother
👍🏾
