I had the pleasure of listening to this live in Nashville February 2019. I was on the 3rd floor balcony and could still feel the heat from the flaming piano they had on stage. It was an experience I'll never forget.
I have listened to this version more times than I can even try and count and every single time, without fail, I get goosebumps.. It is in my opinion hands down the best performance ever.
Again man, thanks for not stopping the song during your reaction.. too many people stop and talk and it totally takes them out of the songs moment and power... 10/10
This is the most wonderful version of any song I’ve ever heard. I need to listen to it at least once a day. The real magic would be to see him live, I don’t think I could Handel it. And I’m 75 years plus.X might be in love with him a little bit.X😊
I’m so glad you watched both. :) The live version definitely shows you how perfect his voice truly is. The video, however, is so beautifully crafted that you’re not only mesmerized by his voice but also by what you are experiencing while watching. The visuals are on point with the songs message and, if you dig deep enough to find meaning, can also be pretty emotional. All around my favorite song and video. Happy to have been a part of your “discovery”. :)
Yeah I've seen both dozens of times but the Official is just better, the production and visual is what takes it over the top. That being said, this is phenomenal too.
David has said that if they can't do a song live then they won't record it. This is the perfect example. I love this version more. Classicly trained vocalist who works with a world renowned vocal coach and it shows. Freaking masterfully controls his instrument and it shows.
And all while he had the flu! My ass wouldn't get out of bed if I had the flu. They're just awesome. I love Disturbed, the whole band is just incredible.
"Oh snap, they've got violins and stuff!". Hahaha! A totally appropriate reaction. I really enjoyed your appreciation for this performance. It was written all over your face. :). Thanks Bryan.
David Draiman....IMO THE best male vocalist out there. Can go from warm baritone to tenor, to clear as an angelic bell to grit/rasp and back on a DIME. What a powerful voice! Awesome talent and amazing voice control! He has been singing for over 25 years or more...knows how to do distortion WITHOUT harming his vocal cords. His voice has a timbre I've never heard before. Loved your commentary and reaction....could tell you appreciated it too.
As a drummer, yourself, I thought you might comment on the tympani...their entrance and the way they help drive the song to its climax. The instrumentation was stunning for this live performance and enhanced the remarkable voice of David Draiman.
If you haven't already heard or been told. Paul Simon was so touched by this rendition of his song that he actually said to David Draiman, "This is your song now". What an honor to be given that sort of accolade by the writer himself! Especially considering how many people it touched when released by Simon & Garfunkel over 50yrs ago, & David has brought a whole new audience to it with his own version Great reaction to both of the videos. I feel that both really need to be reviewed so as to get a real insight into his extraordinary voice control skills. He really is a master at his craft!
Loved your reaction. I love this version, too. The thing that blows me away is that he kept that control and produced that power in his voice WHILE SITTING DOWN. Ask any singer how their singing is constrained while seated.
And he had the flu. That's why he was sitting. And he was super pissed that the show producers added a little auto tune to his voice because he never uses it. He doesn't need it, sick or not.
Both the studio and the live versions are outstanding but the live just has that more intimate feeling. Knocks you for six. Thanks very much for doing the live one too.
The fascinating fact to metal/ power singers is that most of them are great all around singer on the planet. They really don’t get the recognition they just deserve. With David, he’s classically trained such Floor Jansen, put them into a setting and a song like this one and they’ll slay it. Sick or not sick they can deliver like no one else’s business. Great reaction as i too got chills, again......
Watching your facial expression while you were watching the video describes your reaction so much better than words can explain. So glad that somebody appreciates David’s talent.
Dude, this may be my favorite reaction to anything ever. Just seeing another musician show so much admiration and appreciation for this performance is awesome. This may be one of the best live performances we ever see, and you capture that in the reaction so well. Love your stuff man, keep it up!
I love both versions. I've listened to it and various reactions probably more than 100 times. The video shows the world that music is a vital expression of self and how all the despairing people will be saved by musicians going to them. The live version is just as good but a huge display of Damon's genius and gift. Thanks for doing them back to back.
This is my favorite cover ever 🖤 They also do a cover of Sting’s If I Ever Lose My Faith In You, and Genesis’ Land of Confusion. They’re both awesome. Great reactions!!
I love the live version better! The setting with the orchestra and just one of the most incredible voices I ever heard!! Live!! Holy crap!! Love your reaction, that's how I responded seeing this live version!! Blew me away!! Rock on brother! 🎤🎙🎸🎼
Loved your review here. I especially liked that we could see your reactions, but you didn't feel the need to stop the video to tell us.. Sometimes reviewers go over the top with their pausing 🙂I was 16 when this song first came out and now at 74 have fallen in love with this version.
Bryan, I keep coming back to your two reactions to this song and love the look of awe, not to mention the clear emotion, that you display. Draiman is pretty awesome eh?

I saw Disturbed at Virginia Beach Amphitheater and he completely nailed the song, I’ve seen them several times live and what an amazing band and David is a phenomenal singer. Great reaction!
Your welcome for the info on him been better on conan, and I am really glad you liked this version better than the video, again what a great reaction, its the way the musical intruments come in on the show and the lighting on them that blows me away as well, and yes he did have the flu during this performance, most wanted him to cancel it, but he said they was there now so might as well continue.
That live performance takes chicken skin to a whole new level. Those kettles took it to the leaking eye zone. Stay well. As a percussionist you might enjoy Agust D's Daechwita, lyrics r a must.
Bryan, I was trawling the interwebs last night and came across an absolute gem from Nita Strauss and David Draiman, called Dying Inside. If you haven't already heard it, give it a go. I think it would be right up your street.
In my opinion, you listened to them in the correct order. As for which version I like better, even after hearing both for almost 3 years now, I still can't decide. I do think the official (video) version as an awesome cover of Simon & Garfunkel's classic and their version performed on Conon as an awesome cover of their original cover. I consider both versions as my most favorite song of all time, which quickly replaced my previous long time favorite of the Moody Blues classic "Nights In White Satin/Late Lament", which were actually two different tracks on the original album, which a lot of people (incorrectly) called something like "Nights In White Satin - The full version" or "Nights In White Satin - Long version". I know that "Nights In White Satin" is not your normal genre but if you haven't heard it, you should do a reaction to it. Unfortunately, there was no official music video for it and even their live versions did not do the song justice. There is a fan created video of the song that I think you would enjoy and you can see it here: ruclips.net/video/Sx8d--usWKI/видео.html
Best vocals ever in my opinion! David’s voice touches your heart and soul. Goosebumps every time I hear this.

No matter how many times I listen to them perform this song I still get goosebumps. David’s voice adds so much raw emotion to the song.
The audience was so quiet after the performance. It took a second before they applauded. I'm so glad you reacted to the Conan performance as well.

It's a thing of beauty! He once said he'd never record a song he couldn't sing live. He does it beautifully.
My son has seen David perform this in concert a few times and said he sounds just as beautiful in person. Every time.
the power, the emotion, his amazing voice, i could listen to this 1000 times and still get goosebumps.
I have listened to this version more times than I can even try and count and every single time, without fail, I get goosebumps..
It is in my opinion hands down the best performance ever.
What makes this live performance exceptional is that, he had a terrible head and chest cold yet still sang it live rather than cancel!
Paul Simon said this is their song now and added it to his playlist. Amazing. He is awesome.
One of my favourite performances! I don't know how many times I heard this song in the last years and I still can't get enough of it!
I get goosebumps every time I listen to this. It’s like having a fever- in a beautiful way.

Me too. The timpani playing was perfect for the song.
The live version felt so much more real and powerful. Just wow.
Thank you for playing the entire video. Most people have seen the video and come here to see your reaction and what you have to say about the video.
He was sick during this performance
Your reaction was what I was looking for...exactly. Thankyou!!!
This is where David Draiman truly shines. Amazing.
If you’re in the mood for more Disturbed, react to Hold On To Memories. It’s another example of David’s extraordinary talent.
Best song ever. Paul Simon said this song belongs to them now. He added it to his playlist.
It’s important to watch both videos. The video shows a beautiful story and was so perfectly created, but the live version is on its own level.

Yes, he had an upper respiratory infection . Conan producers used auto tune without David knowing till after it was realised
