Normally, I don't like remakes, but this one is spectacular. David Draiman's voice is outstanding, and they made the song their own while preserving the original.
David Draiman's voice is epic. Regarding the lyrics, Simon and Garfunkel's version was a warning. The Disturbed version is furious because the warning was ignored.

This is the only cover that Paul Simon has publicly given a positive a positive review. The original is beautiful but it almost seems it was written for David Draiman’s voice.
@@tammycosby4495 agreed, when i first saw it i was thinking..umm..really??? then this happened. i have seen that this take on it was actually liked by Paul Simon..PAUL F'N SIMON...how can that be bad??

Hey it's the 75 year old grandma again, this song was originally a protest song during the Viet Nam war, Back then (I know I was there) most of your protest songs were done in a very folk song way, very laid back, if you listen to the original you will see what I mean, this version is very in your face, and sung very powerfully.

Paul Simon of Simon & Garfunkel wrote this in 1963-1964 released on Columbia Records on the debut album in March of 1964. Side note so much has changed in our country since 1960's but yet this songs lyrics still make you stop and think and really hit the mark now do they or do they not? I feel this was a wonderful cover by Disturbed even knowing the singers them self have night and day different singing style the message and feelings still come right to us I think. Both bands enjoyed it as a hit song.
this is still relevant today instead of speaking out about the things that should be decried and protested we remain silent. When we allow our policy makers to refuse to follow Christ's instructions to help the poor, feed the hungry, give comfort to those in prison, and heal the sick we are just as guilty. His one commandment was to love god with all your heart and offer assistance to those that needed our help no matter who they are or what they look like.
Love it. One of my kids (in his 30s) suggested this one to me knowing I love the Simon and Garfunkel version. I love this one just as much. To me they are two different songs. Both versions are outstanding.

Songs like this must be dealt with care. Why? Because the song itself has many meanings to different people. Change the tonal color of the song to this group's interpretation, it has a 1000% different meaning. That is neither good or bad, it is the listener's call to evaluate it. Walk carefully. Why? EXAMPLE: I am a ptsd vet. I served this country for 28 years. Go to far and distant lands, meet strange and exotic people, and kill them I did that. I had no qualms about it. I was young. Thi song as a young lad dies not mean the same thing to me now. I like this version! It has forced me to grip onto many things in my mind that had been undone, no tended to.
Hello! There is a good and wonderful reason this song touches us deep in our SOUL! That's because HE is calling out to YOU through this song..."I've come to talk with you again"..."In restless dreams, I walked alone"..."People hearing without listening, no one dare disturb the sound of silence"..."hear my words that I might teach you, take my arms that I might reach you"..." but my words like silent raindrops fell and echoed in the wells of silence"..."The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls and tenement halls and whispered in the sound of silence" This song is being sung by a Jewish man. The original was also sung by Jewish men. The original is performed with a subtle warning, while the remake is more profound and urgent. Jews are the chosen people of God whom he revealed himself to first, it was their voice that was to shine the light of God's truth on the nations that they might be saved. But, his beloved people rebelled against him and through their fall salvation was offered to the Gentiles to provoke them to jealousy. I find it very appropriate that God is using the voice of his chosen people to reveal his warning to the nations...over 300,000,000 views :) LOVE IT! God is brilliant! One like myself who has heard God's words and believed on his promise can fall into fear when sharing his gospel of reconciliation because people can become very angry when faced with his truth, even close loved ones can turn on you with hate towards you. But, if we remain in silence because of fear the world will not hear WHAT Christ has done FOR US to be reconciled to the Father! It has been given to me TO GIVE to the lost who have not yet heard his voice to believe his words unto salvation! If you have a couple of minutes He would love to talk to you! :) Hebrews 11 1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. 6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” Romans 10 17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. John 3 14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: 15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. John 14 6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. MY PURPOSE HERE: 2 Corinthians 4 1 Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not; 2 But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God. 3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: 4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. 5 For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake. 6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, TO GIVE the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. 7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. The "god of this world" is the devil Satan and he keeps you blinded from the truth as long as he can! I am here to break through the silence...If you are willing to hear his voice! All God is seeking our hearts for is FAITH in the death burial and resurrection of his Son Christ Jesus who was delivered for our offenses and when he finds a heart with FAITH you will be rewarded greatly!!! :)...First, you must hear his voice through HIS words, but "the people are hearing without listening"! Hebrews 3 15 While it is said, To day IF YE WILL HEAR his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation. John 6 63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. Hebrews 9 12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. Romans 3 23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; 24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood Romans 10 8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. 12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon his name. "Fools", said I, "You do not know Silence, like a cancer, grows Hear my words that I might teach you Take my arms that I might reach you" But my words, like silent raindrops fell And echoed in the wells, of silence And the people bowed and prayed To the neon god they made And the sign flashed out its warning In the words that it was forming And the sign said, "The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls And tenement halls" And whispered in the sounds of silence. Here is the warning I found in this song: Isaiah 1 2 Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth: for the LORD hath spoken, I have nourished and brought up children, and they have rebelled against me. Hebrews 2 3 How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him; Hebrews 3 18 And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not? 19 So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief. Romans 1 20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Enter into his rest by faith in Christ Jesus! The faith of Abraham: 20 He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; 21 And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. 22 And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness. 23 Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; 24 But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; 25 Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification. John 1 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. 11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not. 12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Psalms 146 5 Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God: p.s. I love you :)

Disturbed normally plays heavy metal (this is a cover of a folk song). A lot of heavy metal bands make frequent use of contrast. You start with something light and delicate so that when the punch comes, it hits harder.
This is a Cover of a Simon and Garfunkel song. When Simon the writer, heard Disturbeds Cover he Praised it and said David the singer made it his song, he said he LOVED it
Thank you so much brutha! David Drayman, the lead singer, has an amazing, distinctive voice, incredible range and power! I recommend that you go back and check out the song with the official video- his eyes and facial expressions are so intense! Plus the images in the video add to the power of the lyrics... Thanks again for checking this out and doing a reaction video and honoring my request (I'm sure you had others mention it as well!!) To get a contrast of what they sound like, outside of a ballad or cover, as they are a rocking, dynamic metal band with great musicianship and David's powerful vocals and thought-provoking lyrics. The just dropped a new song yesterday called ""Are You Ready?", from their upcoming new album "Evolution", which will be coming out on October 19th. They got a 20+ year history together and a vast library of other songs to check out.... Peace! Greg (aka G-Money)
The show they did for Conan they did this song with a orchestra was awesome I didn't realize Drayman was classically trained as a singer , They raised the bar on this song .
Simon and Garfunkle made this song in the 60's to help with protests against war mongering leaders. Now this song is written as a reminder that we need to use our voices to keep from being oppressed . Sorta raging against us for not listening to the first version.
Without the imagery of the video, I focused on the words. This helped me understand. The stab of the street lamps and neon light were about our accepted truths. The lyrics say "And in the naked light I saw". They say that people speak and hear without listening. We bow to the neon truths we have made. Is this is not now? The real truth will one day UNIFY our people. Its silence now is the sound that we are hearing.
When Simon and Garfunkel were asked what the meaning behind the songs was they said they had no one real meaning to it. So this song is what you take out of it. To some its religious, to others its uplifting, some say it it depressing. And each has their own merits. I myself see it as a take on how as time is going on we humans are gaining more and more advanced ways of communicating with each other and it should be easier for us to understand each other but its having an opposite effect. We are drifting further away from each other and focusing on ourselves more than or fellow people.
In my mind, their is a real distinction between the quality and quantity of information being communicated. Modern technology has increased the quantity of communication, but the real concern of the author was about the quality. I suspect they chose not to mention this additional depth in a quick interview. We see reports every day of opposites who do not see the world from the perspective of their rival. That quality of choosing to see what they see is missing in our world of perfect customer service. Google, Facebook, Microsoft, and other providers show us what we, individually, want to see, just as the news services do. We it is good that we get more quantity, but we must always see the other side. Right now, for each of us, the other side is silent. That is the sound...
I slightly misinterperated this song the first time I heard it. I thought it was about wanted to shut out the noise of the world. But the more I listen to it I realize that it's about people shutting out each other.
I gotta say that your videos are the best of these "reaction" videos..and i've watched a lot. Seems like u appreciate the songs ur listening. And i love ur face expressions!
I’m with you, I think this is beautiful. To me the original is ok, but doesn’t have the same feeling. I have heard several songs by Disturbed and the are awesome, but this song gave me chills and I teared up a little when I heard it.

Its an especially amazing done and received cover considering Disturbed is a group that started and is more popularly know for being VERY HEAVY. Check out Down with the Sickness it's one of their more popular images. That said they are VERY diverse in what style of songs they sing especially in their latest album IMMORTALIZED.

David (the singer) and his band Disturbed are normally metal, so the whole presence you are picking up is probably due to that.

It has been given to me TO GIVE to the lost who have not yet heard his voice to believe his words unto salvation!
If you have a couple of minutes He would love to talk to you! :)
Hebrews 11
1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”
Romans 10
17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
John 3
14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
John 14
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
MY PURPOSE HERE:
2 Corinthians 4
1 Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not;
2 But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.
3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
Hebrews 3
15 While it is said, To day IF YE WILL HEAR his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.
John 6
63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
Hebrews 9
12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
Romans 3
23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood
Romans 10
8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
"Fools", said I, "You do not know
Silence, like a cancer, grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you"
But my words, like silent raindrops fell
And echoed in the wells, of silence
And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
And the sign said, "The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls"
And whispered in the sounds of silence.
Here is the warning I found in this song:
Isaiah 1
2 Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth: for the LORD hath spoken, I have nourished and brought up children, and they have rebelled against me.
Hebrews 2
3 How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;
Hebrews 3
18 And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not?
19 So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.
Romans 1
20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
Enter into his rest by faith in Christ Jesus!
The faith of Abraham:
20 He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;
21 And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.
22 And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.
23 Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him;
24 But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead;
25 Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.
John 1
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
Psalms 146
5 Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God:
p.s. I love you :)
He’s a God. He sang it so perfectly I cried when I first heard him sing it.
I always thought Sound of Silence was one of the most powerful songs ever written. It really grasps the severity of nuclear war and paranoia.
Dude you crack me up with the way you say things, you should play ( Down With The Sickness ) by DISTURBED. 👍👍
Done it already. Check it out
I still get chills every time I listen to disturb’s version ❤️❤️
I grew up in the Vietnam Era... This is significant
I love it Brother, you're just like me, hen a song/music hits you, you feel it in your soul and it zaps up your spine and out of the top of your head, LOLOL! God Bless you and Jesus keep you my Brother, I love your channel and can't wait for your new videos
Damn, you should have seen the actual official video. That lead singer is fierce to look at in it.
Disturbed normally plays heavy metal (this is a cover of a folk song).
A lot of heavy metal bands make frequent use of contrast. You start with something light and delicate so that when the punch comes, it hits harder.
The video makes the song come to life beautiful
In my opinion, this is probably the greatest cover of all time.
His voice is so powerful, he truly has an amazing voice!
Disturbed is pretty much a heavy metal band! Lol His video is the best!
Seen these guys live. Amazing.
Thanks again for checking this out and doing a reaction video and honoring my request (I'm sure you had others mention it as well!!)
To get a contrast of what they sound like, outside of a ballad or cover, as they are a rocking, dynamic metal band with great musicianship and David's powerful vocals and thought-provoking lyrics.
Draiman
Simon and Garfunkle made this song in the 60's to help with protests against war mongering leaders. Now this song is written as a reminder that we need to use our voices to keep from being oppressed . Sorta raging against us for not listening to the first version.
You HAVE to watch the video with the band in it. Totally puts an "Oh My God" feel into it.
Dude you felt the mixed power.maby not mixed ; just raw.pasion as it exist
Love this song!! This version or the original! Think I’m about 10 videos deep through your catalog MRM. I love your channel brother!! 🙏
Thank you so much!
Gotta remember this song was written in the 1960s
Google, Facebook and all the other stuff did not exist.
You get it, Simon and Garfunkel saw the future and warned us 50 years ago
I slightly misinterperated this song the first time I heard it. I thought it was about wanted to shut out the noise of the world. But the more I listen to it I realize that it's about people shutting out each other.
I gotta say that your videos are the best of these "reaction" videos..and i've watched a lot. Seems like u appreciate the songs ur listening. And i love ur face expressions!
This song was better after listening to Disturbed's heavier stuff for years and then they came out with this.
Gives ya chills, doesn't it. Listen to the original cover by Simon and Garfunkel too. They both give ya goosebumps.
Dude, you absolutely have watch the official video of this. The imagery will Impress you.
Tears everytime. So powerful.
I cannot listen to that version without getting chills
The video for this is epic! A must see moving powerful visual
Simon & Garfunkel's version puts you in a sad melancholy mood...
This version is more powerful and "dark"...still love both of them!
For your information I'm pushing 60 yes. Old, I don't ever want to get OLD. I'M YOUNG AT HEART 💝
I’m with you, I think this is beautiful. To me the original is ok, but doesn’t have the same feeling. I have heard several songs by Disturbed and the are awesome, but this song gave me chills and I teared up a little when I heard it.
MUST watch the video. It tells their version of the story.
You have to catch the video. INCREDIBLE!!!
If you haven’t seen it yet the Live version on the tv show CONAN is absolutely stunning and better than the original video.
His voice is so powerful.
He performed this on Conan and he was actually sick, you should check it out, since you like seeing them sing it live.
I felt you get chills! I got them too!
After watching a few of ur reaction videos I've decided u'd love all my playlists xD but as others have said, treat urself to the actual video by disturbed(on my "gotta getcha sum" playlist for a quicker find) though I'm grateful for the lyrical version for myself lol n once u find urself singing along I'll be glad for lyrical version too :3
I enjoy your reactions because you really listen to the song. No bullshit during the song. Keep them coming 👍
I think I like this version better than the original! I want to see the video, also!
Love your reaction to Stevie Ray Vaughan. About to watch your reaction to Disturbed. One of my favorite bands.
