I left the Jehovah's Witness organisation many years ago ( when age 21 ). I became a christian sometime later ( another story... ). About 6 months after Ieft, two elders came to my door and asked if I attended a local church; I said I was and they ( in an annoyed manner ) said something like I was disfellowshipped...I am now 75 ( still a christian...) , happily married ( 47 years ) with 2 wonderful adult children/ grandchild. I went on to university and enjoyed a professional career. I'm so glad I left the controlling, abusive and misleading cult of the Watchtower organisation. There is fulness of life outside the dehumanising grip of the Watchtower organisation.
My big problem is I was "raised as a Christian" by my Presbyterian Dad but he couldn't even explain one scripture in the Bible about ANYTHING! He just pointed at the Bible and the Buildings and the Rituals and said to Believe It. I had so many questions, even to tears, and all he could do was give me a vacuous Children's Book of Bible Stories. After many years of searching, (without realizing what research really was back in the day) the JWs were the only ones who even OPENED a Bible and explained a whiff of what it said, so I was hooked. Dad did the full "You're in a cult" speech but had nothing to say except "It's not what we believe" plus a little bit about Rutherford, which in hindsight, is understandable. That being said... Been through an entire full cup of hell with the JW's. Baptised in 1989, married a "Brother" in 1990. Wanted to commit suicide by 2004, but I knew for sure God wouldn't approve. I just said, 'Well, if I'm in a place that makes me want to not live, even if "they" say this is what I need to do and where I need to be, I absolutely can't do this anymore. Let me know what to do next God, even if leaving will separate me from this organization who say they are your representatives." I'm still here to talk about it, thank God. The Pharisees and Sadducees are alive a well to this day and their burdens are just as heavy.
My best friend wrote a letter when she left. When I faded, my thought was I don't need to do it in the way they set up. I don't owe anyone an explanation.
I left in 2021. I'm not a born in but I've lost all my friends (so called friends). I was in 35 years and I just turned 60 and I find it hard to make friends. I know there are others out there like me, I just don't know how to find them. I really enjoyed listening to all three of you. I'm so happy your wife woke up too. My husband is a born in and it's really hard. Your videos will definitely help others.

This resonated with me so much! When i left, i had no family except for my, then, newly wed wife. But it's so true that there is indeed a life waiting for anyone wanting out.
I so enjoyed your experience, you made me laugh and cry. My wife and I decided together to leave. And we've decided that we are not giving them any kind of satisfaction or power over us to write a letter of disassociation.
This was a good experience to hear. I’m still adapting 2 and half years on from fading - the freedom is amazing,but knowing where you now fit in and what you like is something I’m still working through. Dave is a very unusual guy, he actually put in the work to get out of Watchtower for good. I agree with him, if you actually read the works of Rutherford you see what a megalomaniacal madman he actually was. Every person around him either became a complete sycophant or were out of the Watchtower in fairly short order. (See any parallels in the modern US political landscape?) Dave, the guy who helped Rutherford write the bonkers 7th volume of Studies in the Scriptures was George Fisher. He stood up to Rutherford for Rutherford going to burlesque shows in NYC and worked on removing him. Rutherford slandered him in the pages of the Watchtower and Fisher died from the stress of the situation. That is one of several bodies, literal and figurative, that Rutherford left in his wake. Like you, when I came out I wanted to know everything. Wish we knew each other, I feel we are kindred spirits.
