On the serape fabric: you can try using some black knit iron-on stabilizer on the seam lines before you stitch the seams. It's very light weight and flexible. You can also bind each edge with bias before sewing the seams, which will be heavier, but will also protect it from shredding. I used masses of hand-woven Japanese fabrics to make a long vest - many pieces were woven from strips of old kimonos that were cut up and woven on cotton threads. I stabilized the edges of every cut I was going to make BEFORE cutting the pieces. I basted the pattern piece outlines, ironed on stabilizer and/or sewed over with a zig-zag, then cut the piece and restabilized each if needed before moving to the next. I also underlined each pattern piece separately, and then lined the entire garment, so each piece had attached cotton fabric underneath it, keeping the grain true, and reinforcing the seams one more time. It took a long time to make, but it's gorgeous. I used Folkwear pattern #118, Tibetan Vests if you'd like to see an original garment.
If you find an unraveling fabric again then consider bias tape or french seams and probably even give extra wide seams. It has worked for me in the past.
You have some really great makes here. You’re getting really good fit on your pants. You could make a separate liner for the pants. It would work for any other pants that need lined you might make in the future. In the old days, most pants were lined. Some sewists liked to just make a separate liner so the lining could be washed and moved to different pairs of pants. Saved wear & tear on the fashion fabric too. You’re going to have to stop criticizing yourself. You’re an artist - there is no right & wrong in art. The technical sewing skills will come. Lots of people can help with that. But not everyone sees the art in fabric like you do.
Creating your own clothing is indeed a blessing and a gift to yourself and the people you share your journey with. I love the vintage fabrics and silhouettes. What machine did you use for the button holes?
Thanks for sharing your wonderful adventures in sewing. I really like the yellow decorative quilted jacket. Beautiful and looks really comfortable too !! :-)
