I live in a small west Texas town but am getting ready to move to north texas between Abilene and Fort Worth. On the skirt, I would like the lime color for that panel that is now lavender. I want to see what you decide.

      I ended up flipping the hole on the waistband to the other side and putting the lavender panel underneath. It peaks out a little bit but it looks much better. Plus that was an easier fix than remaking the skirt!

    Here are my thoughts 🙂 when you swap out the fruit skirt try the lime green on the inside panel. I think that’s how that skirt worked. So that the majority of what you see is the fruit fabric. Then either your cocoon dress I think that would also look beautiful made up in a floppy silk (silk satin maybe).

    • @SewSewLounge

    Fabulous....Loved the range of fabrics that you used for the different items you sewed. My favs were the winter cloak, pink dress and the full skirt. I was wondering if you would be able to do a sewing tutorial? Its a New Look pattern 6263. I have made a mock up of Dress B without a zip with cheap material and felt too apprehensive to cut up my material without the help of a tutorial. I would be very appreciative for your assistance. Thanks so much Alison (Australia)

      Thanks for watching Alison. I’m totally open to doing a tutorial with that pattern since it’s something I would wear and I’ve got plenty of fabric that would work for that design. The black linen dress and the cape are my favorites. Lots of lovely makes though. Have you ever used SewkeysE double sided stay tape on hems? The woven kind can be used on knit hems if they are loose such as the top you made. It resolves the wavy issue nicely and adds a slight bit of weight.

    • @SewSewLounge
      @SewSewLounge  10 месяцев назад

      I haven’t tried that hem tape-thanks for the suggestion. I’ll try it out. It sounds very helpful! So far the black linen dress and cape are the winners for last year. Thanks for watching ☺️

    The cape is my favorite though there are many of your makes that I like. And yes, I think replacing that heavier linen piece on your twirly skirt is a good idea. And please, let’s not go too cold here in our Texas winter! Been there, done that and had the broken pipes to prove it.

    • @SewSewLounge
      @SewSewLounge  10 месяцев назад

      Just cold enough to wear my cape 😉 50s would be good. But I agree no freezing and losing the power grid. That’s WAY too cold. Swapping out that front panel is in the list of projects to remake in 2024!

  • @OnePoetWanderer
    @OnePoetWanderer 10 месяцев назад

    I am in love with the cape coat! I tend to throw on a cape until it gets super cold (it's about -30 right now...well beyond cape territory) and wasn't sure I ever wanted to mess with making a coat, but that pattern looks like one I could handle, minus the herringbone. I thought the black linen dress looked a bit plain, but then when you modeled it suddenly it all made sense and I fell in love with the simple lines of it.

    • @SewSewLounge
      @SewSewLounge  10 месяцев назад

      This was my first cape ever and I love it. The herringbone wasn’t too bad, but I could have used another half yard so I didn’t have to skimp on the belt. I felt the same way about the black dress when I finished sewing it. Then I put it on and liked it much better. ❤️

  • @SunnyLutzFL

    The hanky skirt is pretty and the fabric is beautiful but I agree that the stripe fabric is too dominant. Is it possible to wrap it in the other direction so the stripes are only peak out from under the pretty patterned fabric?

    • @SewSewLounge
      @SewSewLounge  10 месяцев назад

      Unfortunately it’s not. That front panel is a different shape. I think the only way to make it better is to use the lime green fabric and recut a panel of the fruit fabric as the top layer.

    I’m a very new clothing sewer, do you have a video on how to use the same pattern for many sizes ? thanks 🙏🏼

    • @SewSewLounge
      @SewSewLounge  9 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you for watching and welcome. I don’t have any videos for using patterns for multiple sizes. If you are using the same pattern for costumes or bridesmaid dresses, I’d start with the biggest size and cut and mark as needed and then repeat for each size as you cut it smaller. But , if you just want to save the patterns for further use in other sizes then I’d recommend tracing off the pattern in the size that you need and then that way you can reuse for other sizes. If that doesn’t answer your question, let me know ☺️

    I agree about the Lotta book. I had bought that book several years ago and made a few things, which I never wear. The sizing was ok but the clothes are just shapeless and frumpy. I really like patterns by Atélier Scämmit-do you know that company? It’s French and they have RUclipss (in French). The instructions are in both English and French on the patterns. I also like Merchant and Mills patterns and made several of the Eve Trousers, which turned out well, though the technique with the zipper was confusing. My husband helped me though-he sews better than I do!

The shorts were a bit tight around my thighs and low at the back waist but, with modifications, I have a go-to shorts pattern. I would use the lime green fabric as a panel and switch panels so that the citrus fabric is on top. You'd probably want to switch out the band/ties to lime green or citrus print fabric since you said the skirt is too tight. Unless you meant remaking the entire skirt in a larger size?

    I have had some success with jansdotter patterns. I have the same book and made fhe eseme top and the same dress you made. Nith worked pretty well for me but the skirt and pants were a complete bust for me. I even tried to make them bigger but that made them worse...

    On the wrap skirt, why not exchange the two end pieces. Then the blue would be inside instead of on top and it won’t be wasted.

      I bought it at the Texas Quilt museum in La Grange, TX. They have a much of beautiful fabrics in 1 yard cuts. This particular print isn’t available anymore, but they do have an online shop you can check out!

    I see what you mean about the apron look on the skirt, even though I do love the two fabrics together. I think its because of the waistband being the solid fabric too, so it looks like apron ties. I think if you made the opposite pannel of the same solid fabric, the apron look would go away. I'm not sure it would make it look better if you used the new fabric, because the original solid has a more boho look to it than the new solid, which matches the skirt style better and the apron shape would still be there. Leaving the original solid waistband might help, or it might just look like you ran out of fabric. I think maybe the waistband should be from the print if you want just one panel from a solid. Maybe draw your options out and see how it would look?
    I have a question for you that's totally unrelated. I thrifted an entire bolt of mustard coloured fleece sweatshirting (for $10 Canadian), which I love, but the problem is, it has no stretch at all. Do you have any suggestions of what I could make from it? Could I just use a pattern that calls for something like corduroy or denim and treat it like a heavier woven? Mustard is one of my best colours and I treat it as a neutral and I have about 12 yards of it. So I'm open to any patterns or suggestions.

    • @SewSewLounge
      @SewSewLounge  10 месяцев назад +1

      I might have to draw it out as you suggested! I think you’re totally right about the waistband and ties adding to the apron effect. Re: the non-stretchy fleece you bought- I’d totally treat it like a wool felt or corduroy and find a pattern that would work for one of those fabrics. Good luck ☺️

    Can you not just tie the wrap skirt the other way?‽?
    Wow that black dress was gorgeous 😍. Looked so much better on, then the hanger.
    I love all the patterns, but quilting cotton and wax cotton don't always have the best drape unfortunately.

    • @SewSewLounge

      I couldn’t tie the wrap skirt the other way as it was originally made. I ended up taking apart the waistband to it would tie the other way instead of remaking it with another fabric. Much easier solution and it still looks good.
      I love the Farrow dress pattern that I used for the black dress. It’s my go to fancy day dress. I’m probably going to make it again since it’s so comfortable!

    I get the idea of making a muslin, but for quick, easy sewing, who has the time? And you don’t need to, right? I’m lucky if I get the pattern cut out with the final fabric. Now if you’re using expensive fabric for clothing that is more body hugging and/or tailored, then going to the trouble to do a muslin makes sense.

    • @SewSewLounge
      @SewSewLounge  8 месяцев назад

      I’m fortunate that comercial patterns generally fit me, so I don’t usually make muslins. Because you’re right, who has time!
