    Back in March of 1983, I was in the USAF, and I got my V-65. I'd never owned or ridden anything bigger than a 125 dirt bike. The power of that thing was unbelievable. On the way back to base, I'd pulled onto the shoulder of the freeway to adjust my helmet strap, and without really thinking about it, just signaled, and pulled back into (65mph) traffic. There was a cabover Peterbilt roaring toward me, so instinctively, I rolled the throttle back, and wham! I was outta there! Zero to sixty-five in less than nothing flat. Talk about a white knuckle ride! The day before my warranty was up, a shift fork broke and locked me in fifth gear. I limped it back to the dealer and they rebuilt it for free.

      That's an awesome story. Yes, the V65 pulls as hard as any high HP modern bike today. Just brute torque!

      April 2024, I got another V65 Magna. I found on online, for $2800, with 40,000 actual miles on it. '85, black, excellent condition other than some corrosion on the aluminum parts. Fuel sensor was burned out, but I fixed it. Replaced master cylinders, shocks & repaired exhaust. Still gets 35 mpg.

    I love Honda Magnas. I have owned many of them over the years. I got a new 1984 700 magna for high school graduation in 1985. I have owned the 87 Super Magna, 83' 750 Interceptor, and a 85' V65 Sabre. All of these v4's are excellent motors and are super fast. Today, I ride a 93' Yamaha Vmax. The Vmax is a beast, and in 85', dethroned the V65 Magna as the fastest production bike in the world. My 93' is a complete beast of a bike. It is beyond being super fast. I would say owning a Magna and a Vmax are two different types of motorcycles. One is meant to go in strait line and with brute force. The other is a better all around bike and much smoother when riding. This 83' Magna is a bueatiful example of what the 1980's were all about and why the Magna remains a legend until this day.

    Me and my 3 brothers all owned V65's. All different years. Mine was an 83 just like this one here. All were equally as fast. We raced them dozens of times. Usually the first one to get 2nd gear was the winner. If the 83 had 10hp. I sure couldn't tell a difference getting off mine and on one of theirs. WE had a blast!! That is until 1 of my brothers traded his on a Vmax. Lol. Damn Max always pulled away 😕.

      What great memories!! Yes, Yamaha was not to be outdone with the VMax... Faster and uglier. Regardless, Honda was this king of innovation in the 80's with not only the radical water-cooled V45 and V65, but also the Intercept, Sabre, and Magna. Not to mention what I consider the perfect bike... The shortlived Nighthawk S

    Wow, that’s a beauty. I had one just like it with a lot more miles. It had not been cared for like yours. Shortly after I bought, shifted it hard to 2nd gear and and either finished damaging what the previous owner had started or it was that way when I got it. Got the transmission rebuilt and the bike ran like a champ til I sold it with 41K on the odometer. Had a couple V65 Sabres after the Magna, but the Magna was my favorite.

Different jetting on the 83 made it 5-7 hp stronger. 83 was the fastest quarter miler until the v max came out. V max is about a tenth faster in quarter mile

    I've watched your video a couple times already but never commented on it yeah... I had purchased a 1983 Honda vt750c Shadow back in 96 had it loved it baby that for over 24 years. Recently started taking long trips so I needed something a little larger hence the 06 Honda VTX 1300 handed down the 83 750 to a longtime admirer with 61000 miles on it to be loved and taken care of and garaged by its third owner. The bike is a tank... if I didn't know the Japanese made it, I swear it was russian-built. The 750 is a tank!

    Had one, bought used 1990 had less than 2500 miles. The bike scared the heck out of original owner, too much power, plus rider wasn't too experienced. It sat in his garage for 7 years so he sold it to me. Power was incredible from idle to redline. Wish I still had it.

    • @kurt5299
      @kurt5299  Год назад

      Thanks for the story. Yeah, there are many times i wish i still had this bike, but i also sold it a few years ago. Loved the torque, loved the look, loved the nostalgia - but i was always afraid it wouldn't start on me during rides - which happened a few times (kill switch corrosion, fuel pump, etc.). This bike had some complicated engineering and was very fussy being 40 years old. I always felt gremlins were lurking - then there was always the fear of worn cam lobes due to insufficient oil pressure these things were notorious for. Ride safe!!

    Very nice condition. I have an 83 in candy maroon (it's kind of a purplish maroon) - not "candy apple red". I had one exactly like it in the late 80's and early 90's and when I saw this for sale more than 30 years later I just had to have it. They did do 3 different shades of red for 84, 85 & 86 (candy andromedia red, pearl vintage red & candy glory red) along with black. But if it's an 83 it's either your pearl siren blue or my candy maroon.

    Your bike is really beautiful. I'm amazed at even the lettering on the indicator lights is still bold and legible. Mine is pretty much worn off. Does your antitheft system work? I'm trying to figure out how the one on my 83 v65 works still. It seems to be missing a cylinder of some sort that goes under the rubber cap that has "PUSH" written on it.

    Where did you get info about difference in HP number as in the Honda service manual all Magnas are rated at 116 HP. As far as the carbs the only difference btw them is the size of the main jets with 83 having the largest #140. Sabres that came in 1984 were more powerful, rated at 121 HP and they were faster than Magna. Beautiful bike, I have V65 from 1986 in pristine condition with 13k mile on the clock.

    Put a 4 into 1 Kerker exhaust on it.....and rejet carbs. It will smoke a stock VMax....if ya wind it up ....and hang on tight. Don't shift to late in 1st....blast thru 2nd....and 3rd is wear ya loose the competition....hit 4th at 8500 rpm at around 110+. A new back tire is a must..... otherwise ya gonna be just spinning the rear tire.... especially in 3rd.

    Loved your review if the 83 Magna V65. I have the same bike ; 85 VF1100 which I’ve neglected for several months and now have issues with reviving over 1500 rpm. Tried adding fresh gas. Also added enzyme fuel treatment but no change. Don’t have any knowledge about cleaning carbs but suspect that’s the issue. Any thoughts?

    • @kurt5299
      @kurt5299  Год назад

      Hi Tom, thanks! If you can't get the RPMs up, then the engine is probably not getting enough fuel. Check your fuel pump that is has sufficient pressure. Or, 1 or a few of your main jets are plugged with evaporated gas deposits. This usually only happens to the pilot jet and the bike won't start. This happens all the time to us here in Arizona with that crap Ethanol blended gas. I only run VP Fuels Ethanol free gas in all my carbureted vintage bikes. Otherwise they get destroyed by sitting. You can try to remove the float bowls and unscrew the main jets to inspect them and run a cleaning wire though them all.

      At our shop us mechanics tried to hide when these came in for work! LOL
      The carbs in the valley between the "V" are an absolute bitch to work on. A nightmare.
      A common job was the bike had been left sitting - and the carbs all clogged up with rotten gas.
      Cleaning them out was a $1,000 job.

    Is the magna or the sabre more comfortable to ride?

    • @covidmisinformation7481
      @covidmisinformation7481 17 дней назад

      Depends on what you're used to. Sport riding, go with the Sabre - It's a more "prone" seating position. Cruising or touring, go with the Magna - it's more laid back.

    I have a 1985 Yamaha the max is 1200 it has 11,000 original miles it is production number 2131 and any production number under 2500 is for power.After 2500 insurance companies force Yamaha to tone it down I have mine on the Dyno it did 126HP to the rear wheel with 145 stated from the factory. It is dark red metallic and I love the scary bitch.I just put new tires on it myself and I put a 170 on the rear it looks great

    Your idle is way too high !! Stock is 1100 rpm but it’s good to be at 1300 on this bike because oil doesn’t go easily to the camshaft.

      Hi there... myt V65 handle bar setup in the video is pretty simple. The bars i got from Dennis Kirk: Chrome 7/8 in. CB750K Replica Handlebar - 23-93145 (Part #: 599796) for $36. The risers are basic 1" aluminum 7/8" bar risers that you can get on Amazon for about $23. Pat --- I have a Blue 1983 V65 Magna I purchased NEW! Extra's that I purchased with the bike are soft grips, engine saver, windshield designed for the bike, sissy bar & pad, on the back of the chrome sissy bar is a big gold Eagle with V65 MAGNA printed right in the middle of the eagle with the letters in blue, same as bike, with less than 10,000 miles on it, the only thing I have done is replaced tires & brakes, then change all fluids every year like clock work, including drive shaft & front fork oil. I love the three way handle bars on my bike, I can set them just right, 1983 was the only year for them & many other items that were 83' only. Love my bike! Even though I have a 2019 Indian I still favor my V65 it so sleek & stylish, the perfect Muscle Cruiser.
