Everyone in 2020:...
Being apart of this troupe was amazing and to be able to share ideas I'm blessed to have known Shannon Ivey working with her brought a new perspective to theatre for me, she was an amazing professor and I learned alot from her.
What do you have to say now in 21 century: it’s theater as an art of the show or performance possible? 😕
@@jasminecorreia1175 there are a lot of TO folks who have figured out ways to do this virtually. I've engaged in some as both a facilitator and a participant, and found it a valuable work around.
Sydney, you were an absolute joy to work with, and I was blessed to have you in my classes and shows. Your continued creative success proves that you have talent, heart, and skills!

I think she did a good job of showing the "point" of this kind of methodology. Small changes can have a huge impact, that drives the message that we all can be agents of change, day-by-day and step-by-step, we should not leave change to larger-than-life heroes, militant leaders & the like.
did this for my Masters degree final project with a group of high school students and evaluated it as an anti-bullying program. Still use it in my drama classes.
Sounds so interesting! I'd love to hear more
It is amazing that they managed to introduce and run a piece of Forum Theatre in 18 minutes. But indeed, it does not take long to discover and make a change. I find that it usually takes more than two repetitions of a scene to find an effective alternative possibility. However, a non-magical solution to most impasses can be identified in about eight to ten repetitions. Originally developed to tackle oppression non-violently, it is also used in a wide range of other settings from company board room disputes to family dispute resolution. It is low cost and quick. Discoveries made in this way than then be tested out in practice. The key to the success of Forum seems to be that problems are objectified (presented objectively) and the imagination of a large audience can be concentrated on where the problem lies and how to fix it.
Too sweet to be wholesome
Oh I loved this! Think of how impactful this could be if it was taught everywhere (schools, jobs, etc).
so when is ted actually going to talk?

Identify the fatures of forum theatre
What are the aims of forum theatre
How will it help us to change the audience
It's great what they're doing, but the performers aren't projecting their voices unto the audience enough. Especially in large spaces such as the TEDX auditioriums, that is crucial.
Poner subtítulos en Español, gracias! !!!
Hard to watch with bad audio from actors.
TOTO is an excellent form of theatre,
But, what about the people among the audience who do not dare to enter the stage to express their feelings, wonders and experiences? Are they to forget? Of course not. There is several ways to make the "Silent Audience" to be heard.

@@jasminecorreia1175 Dear Jasmine- Could you pls explain- Do not really understand what you mean. Regards.
FT and TOTO is very democratic... you don't want to participate, you don't , you choose your own level of participation...As a drama teacher I drew a picture of openness - a view to the sea; a boat, clouds , a flag on top of the sailing boat and then water and whats beneath it (rocks, fish etc). Every student could indicate, how much he/she is ready to participate and draw their name or symbol in the picture. Few did but themselves under the rock, ferw on the clouds ("I can talk about everything" , "I can do whatever") many on the boat and quite few beneath the water level and next to the fish etc.
Surely the Spectactor takes on the role of the person being Oppressed rather than a witness or the oppressor?
Yes! I was thinking the same! I studied forum theatre in Norway. My teacher was one of Augusto Boal's students. She always made us take the part of the oppressed. We didn't have a choice. The whole point was to learn what we (The oppressed) can do in difficult situations WITHOUT oppressing back. :-)
Up to the audience member
What's the difference between Forum Theatre and Theatre of the oppressed?
Forum theatre (along with invisible theatre and image theatre) is a part of the body of work that is called the theatre of the oppressed; at least according to what I was taught
Theatre of the oppressed is a book which is essentially Boals manifesto, forum theatre is a type of theatre within this manifesto.

I need my 18.51 mins back
I personally feel really affected by this. I think that people don't alway respect their cashier and that should not be happening. I rate this video 8.6/10 points due to the mediocrely bad voice acting.
