    Massively helpful vid, my 12v socket in centre console literally just stopped working, which is a bummer as I only have one other and that’s in the boot (trunk) following your simple and easy to understand videos prt1 and 2 about this issue I managed to trace the failure point all the way to the actual cigarette lighter housing itself. Power was flowing all the way to the connector that plugs in to the cigarette lighter but that’s where it ends. Managed to get a replacement from Audi directly swapped over and boooooom all working again. Thanks to you!

    Finally! OMG and I just got a multimeter. I’ve already replaced the fuse and it didn’t fix it. BRO EVERY video was “just replace the fuse. The fuse. The fuse will fix it” but it DIDN’T. I’ll be doing these steps soon and will finally have my answer!!!!

    Thank you for very informative and easily understood videos. I’m not a car electrician by any means so I certainly appreciate the well organized and explanative information. Both my console and dash lighters stopped working at different times. I only checked the fuse panel near the glove box. I know now I can find the issue and get them both working. Thank you, again from a non-electrician and mechanic.

    When your checking the wire connections behind the cigarette lighter, did you put the fuse back or no. Because when I have to check mine. The Cigarette lighter and the Radio are the same fuse (2002 Mazda 323 Astina). Also my fuse box is in the driver side compartment, so I can't voltmeter the fuse to the battery, unless I buy a 5 metre extension or something haha.

    Great video?
    However if anyone has a different socket like one for the old fashioned cigarette lighter. If you use the lighter to light your smokes? Ash & 1/2 burned smoking materials will accumulate inside the socket. I know this from experience. I was using a friends cigarette lighter outlet to air up her car tires with a portable compressor. I removed her lighter element & inserted the plug. (Nothing). I tried turning my plug in the socket looking for a better connection? Nothing worked? I asked her if she used her car cigarette lighter? “Yes, just the other day she lit a cigarette with it”. Well, upon further examination was a layer of debris in the bottom of the socket. I suggested she tap the lighter in her ashtray after lighting her cigarettes. That would keep the debris to a minimum. I had to use compressed air in a can to blow out the debris. Then it worked.
    Looks like the negative post on your battery has corrosion around it? Try a solution of warm water & a little baking soda. Then disconnect post & use an old tooth brush & apply mixed solution on there. That neutralizes the corrosion & removes all the “caking” on the battery post & connection without any other effort. Apply a very thin coat of silicone after tightening up the connection to minimize corrosion.

    • @HRTsAFyre
      @HRTsAFyre 2 года назад

      Oh by the way. Mine wasn't soldered together but basically there is nothing to burn up inside the lighter housing. Mine is made out of the metal casing a ceramic base with metal contacts where the plug makes contact then more metal contacts inside with a ceramic washer, the screw post and a nut that holds it together. It's pretty basic. When the lighter is depressed it allows the current in to make contact with the lighter elements. When it's heated the metal expands and releases the hot lighter.
