‘Chicago Tonight’ in Your Neighborhood: Roseland

The Roseland community has long been a place on the low end of neighborhoods in the Chicago area, but that's now starting to change. The neighborhood is growing and tonight we will investigate that growth and the people that's making it happen.

I remember Roseland and especially Michigan Avenue as a vibrant place. On weekends you'd see thousands of people in and out of the shops, going to the dances at Knights of Pythias hall, hanging out at Nick's Fat Boy hamburgers, getting a cheap haircut at the Vet's Barber shop, shopping at Gately's. This was 1960 before I enlisted in the Navy. Since then, I've stopped by several times over the years and my verdict is the whole neighborhood is pretty much a dump. Pullman pulled together and made progress. Roseland, you need to make up your mind as to what you have to do.
