      @Razor2048 10 месяцев назад +5

      In places like Chicago, NY, Oregon, California (entire state), and many other similar jurisdictions, the home owner will be committing a felony if they shut off utilities to a tenant. The problem is that many states lack a clear qualifiers for someone to be a tenant. thus all a criminal has to do is break in, and claim they have been there for 30 days, and now they are a tenant, and the tenant protections laws kick in since it doesn't differentiate between someone legally renting for more than 30 days, and someone occupying the property for 30+ days.
      While the term squatter is used, none of these cases are actually squatting since there is a legal process for squatting. The purpose for squatter laws is to provide a process for land and homes to be reused by the public in the event it is abandoned where the original owner has has not paid taxes in years, and has not maintained the land or property and cannot be reached. In such a case, a 3rd party can file for adverse possession and if approved, they can then occupy the land and property, under the conditions that they pay all costs associated with the land and property, consistently for at least 10 years.After 10 years of consistently paying all taxes, utilities and any other fixed cost, they can then petition a court to transfer ownership.
      The catch in the process is that if the original owner challenges the squatting in any documented way (including calling the police), then the process is null and void and the squatter must leave immediately (no need for long eviction timelines).
      In the case of these videos, it is simply criminals taking advantage of loopholes in the tenant laws.
      In states with tough of crime laws, someone attempting to do this, can be removed by the police, where the criminal is immediately charged with trespass and burglary, since they are not legal renters, and the properties they are occupying are not in any position for adverse possession as the owner is still actively involved with the land and property, and the property is not long delinquent in taxes.

    It sucks for homeowners ! I currently live next to a squatter , been living in the house for 6 year , 2 yrs out those 6 he was paying for a rent in the property but he manages to kick everyone out from that property and took possession of the whole house ,then the pandemic hit and it was hard to evict anyone and at the time too the property had been purchased from someone else , now that LLC served him and was suppose to be out by march 2023 but still is in there . We own the house next to it , and when i tell you that squatters are the most dirty and unhinged individuals its an understatement!! This squatter is also conning people for money under a health lie he build so people cuz feel sorry for him and help him 🤦‍♀️ i just dont understand how a state can have more protections for squatters then the homeowners , then once they are finally removed one has to pay for all the damages done to ones property because the state protects these criminals !!
