You can literally scape from them by just walking, now imagine running, you just need to run as fast as you can't for 4 minutes, then you just need to jog for a few hours, and you're pretty much safe, by the time you need to rest, you can just find a safe place to hide. It's really possible because humans are the best marathoners in the whole animal kingdom, we can run for hours thanks to our cooling system called "sweat"

I think the reason there were so many Walkers to overrun society was because the military, in it's infinite wisdom, decided to just start shooting everyone dead in an attempt to "contain the situation". This included shooting all of the nurses and doctors they could get their hands on, it made me so angry to see these soldiers in Shane's flashback just rounding up medical personnel and executing them whilst Walkers were just roaming around in the background, like...why?!?!

    • @clairepulsipher6287
      @clairepulsipher6287 Год назад +48

My hypothesis on that scene is that those soldiers are type A, same as Rick and a number of our favorite characters: the infection had already taken over their brains to a point of no return. Empathy, and moral reasoning were already dying in their brains long before they died physically, like Shane before the end. Type Bs are the ones who keep their empathy but lose their logic when the infection takes over becoming suicidal and sometimes dangerous to those around them like the little girl who tried to get a walker to bite the baby.
Only problem with this hypothesis is the Governor. He lost his logic when his daughter died and his empathy when Michonne put down his walker daughter. He breaks the mold: showing signs of both types of crazy.
      What do you think?

It could be said that Lee survived as long as he did because of Clementine as well-think about quickly the group trusted him because he was watching over a kid as if she were his own-if he hadn't they could have avoided him, not given him a chance, possibly even attacked him if they thought he was a threat. Peoples perception of Lee being a strong man but also dedicated to a kid got him instant access to any information they might have about what was needed to survive, such as the fact that a humans death was what caused the zombification, not the bite itself....and any of this information was almost always transferred to Clementine (he has the option to hide a few things, but I dont remember it ever being survival info). Lee's survival caused Clementine to survive, and Clementine's survival caused Lee to survive. A symbiotic relationship that lasted for as long as was possible.

That would have been a really cool look at the beginning of the apocalypse, as it would have shown how he ended up a Walker, how the military fell, and how the all important grenade that Rick and the group needed to escape the CDC made it in there.

I think the fact that you don’t have to be killed by a walker to turn into one is a pretty good explanation for how they would take over. If everyone who died turned into a zombie, there would be pockets showing up all over the place. Hospitals would fall apart quickly. There would be no where for the sick and injured to go, leading to more deaths. The police would probably start out trying to detain the zombies. I don’t know, seems pretty plausible to me that things would go down hill.

I had a look at the stats and it only appears that about 9,000 people die per day in the US. This is about 375 per hour or 6 a minute. If half die in a hospital bed they could easily be executed straight away that leaves 4,500 corpses somewhere, they could bite family members or members of public and continue the death cycle. Hospitals would be more overrun with people with bites. If the bites sped up the process of dying more people would die in the hospitals. Hospitals would have a slow start at declining but then that would quickly become rapid.

And they were built before modern technology, made to withstand hoards of dudes with weapons. Underground bunkers are made to withstand nuclear bombs, so what is a zombie going to do? Mesa Verde was made by native americans with primitive technology and walking dead zombies would stand no chance of crumbling that. Besides even with the crappiest possible walls, you could still funnel the zombies in a certain way and then make traps to kill them, like a pit filled with fire. Essay incoming:
I think the biggest threat to survivors, the biggest thing adding to the world's huge body count, would be the earliest stages of the apocalypse where panic and confusion would be the highest.
People wouldn't know that the virus has infected nearly everyone, so they would try to take in all other survivors either because of empathy or duty (ex. military).
Perhaps they would figure out faster that people with bites should be excluded or removed, but they wouldn't know that EVERYONE who died, unless they received sufficient head damage, would reanimate, so I suspect that walker threats would be less from outside of survivor camps or settlements and more from unsuspecting medical personnel trying to treat dying people within their camps.
But how would there be all these dying people in the first place if it's only the beginning of the apocalypse? Other humans. Increasing paranoia and distrust would erupt into increasingly common pockets of chaos that would tax emergency services and the military (this doesn't factor in any anti-zombie operations since I don't know about those) and injure a lot of people.
Medical dispensaries such as pharmacies would be primary raid targets once everything began truly going to hell, so I imagine that even with government/military-provided or -protected food and water, people would succumb to wounds or non-zombie infection.
_Plus,_ there's how tons of people will literally die if they don't have ready access to medicine they need, such as certain diabetics without access to insulin, people with deadly allergies without epinephrine, people without access to dialysis or chemo, and on and on. With pharmacies unusable and transportation of medical supplies impeded, and with hospitals being a bad place to go given that sick or dying people within could kick the bucket, turn, and render the hospital unsafe, regular, uninfected people in survivor camps or other shelters could just die of preexisting conditions, reanimate, and raise hell, potentially being decimating if the camp or shelter isn't overseen by the military, police force, militia, or at least a couple of people with guns who aren't afraid to get their hands dirty.
(My secondary point here with the last tidbit is, imagine that you've barricaded yourself in with your immediate family and a few of your neighbors. Someone dies, not due to a walker bite -- maybe it's a heart attack, maybe a bee sting. If everyone fails to realize that all dead bodies, sans those without sufficient head damage, reanimate, anyone handling the body would be put in jeopardy. If someone is bitten or killed as a result, or if it IS realized that all dead will turn, two things could still end up ruining the shelter: One, lack of access to emergency services such as hospitals or police. Second, I would imagine that, during these earliest stages, the confusion around how to handle the dead, dying, or bitten would lead to fuck-ups. Unless someone in that house was willing to risk hurting feelings by shooting their undead grandma or bitten brother, or in a more likely scenario, willing to risk an all-out fight breaking out over how to treat these people, the undead or dying in the house would remain a threat.)
I imagine wary preppers would be left out of this chaos unless they made the mistake of taking others in, and a lot would depend on nations' existing military plans' efficacy, but it's easy for me to see how body counts would initially swell, with that first wave and how it's handled being what makes or breaks pockets of survivors and potentially society/humanity as a whole. Maybe the ordeal wouldn't cause a complete societal collapse, but I can easily see it slinging people into martial law.

@BriMirai Sarada I think Ellie is also badass, but compared to what Clementine accomplished, she falls a bit short. Clem has: learned to shoot at the age of 9, at the age of 11 she was able to struggle against grown ups (not beating them but she was difficult to be brought down hand to hand), was able to deal with walkers on her own in close combat with even overpowering them and could fight against them, at the age of 14 (the age of Ellie) she was already comparable to an adult, being able to shoot with guns like a pro, tackle people (from suprise but still, at the age of 14 you'd have a hard time tackling a grown ass man) and was even better against walkers, to the age of 17 where she has been taking care of a little boy, has no problem dealing with numerous walkers in close combat at the same time, took Lilly on a fist fight and were pretty equal to her meaning her strenght is that of an adult's. While Ellie can shoot, has a knife she can use poorly (when you control Ellie close combat against anything is not an option, they will hurt you while you are attacking them) and took down 1 man who was playing with her the entire time in close combat. She's badass, don't get me wrong, but Clementine is objectively more badass even before they were equal in age.

@UC_FClkXOPqsyXTb0FdRDyRw The infected are mostly just faster, not so much different from walkers. In hand to hand combat, there's no difference really (beside clickers and everything above), if not, their rushing makes them take more damage as they are also moving toward a weapon fast.

How zombies was thought to be:
    - An undead human being.
    - Lack of intelligence.
    - Could die from starvation.
    - Weak in physical strength.
    - Move very slow and sluggish.
    - Attracted by only loud noise.
    - Can be easily killed with melee weapons or any type of guns.
    - Strength: Usually in large numbers, bite and cause slow infection rate.
    - Survivability: Possible, human may have the chance to reclaim the world from the undead.
How zombies nowadays in pop culture:
    - Could be any type of organisms, whether dead or alive.
    - Some have a very high intellect or predator hunting skills.
    - Some could survive for years, even decades due to hibernation.
    - Some would undergoes rapid mutation that would give them extra limbs/appendages, special abilities, increases in strength and speed.
    - Move fast af, never slows down for anything. 🖐️🛑
    - Highly sensitive to their surrounding, even to the sound of breathing or footsteps.
    - Hard or near impossible to be killed by a single individual. Highly recommend the uses of range and explosive weapons, only in dire situation will the melee weapon be an option.
    - Other point of strength: When bitten, the rate of infection is so quick that a person would turn into a zombies in less than an hour or even worst minutes. 💀
    - Survivability: Near zero on your own, only if you're working for a large company that work on the virus, living with group of experience mercenaries, any brach of armies or special forces, lastly if you're the main character with the thickest plot armour.

One thing you can infer is that it travels by air and, while everyone is infected, it doesn't affect you until you're brain-dead so the( whatever it is) can take control. Since most towns and cities were evacuated into the biggest cities around, a couple of small riots would start snowballing deaths. Also it is mentioned alot in the early seasons that military dudes started offing themselves or just ditching for survival so yes, the army collapsing makes sense. They wouldn't stick together because they train to protect people, and many wouldve either felt like they failed or wanted to find their loved ones.

While the walkers from the walking dead might not be that scary, the book World War Z explains how this sort of zombie could potentially bring down society (if at least for a couple of years).
That being said, the Walkers still lack the "Howl" that allowed the Zeds from World War Z to form hordes of millions at a Time. The battle of Yonkers from the book might be the best representation of how a battle between a city-sized Horde of zombies and a still functioning military force could go down and i recommend anyone who enjoys zombie stories to give it a read.

I've heard that the reason why the Walkers in Season 1 run, climb and use 'tools' is because the show had a different writer (or director, can't remember) at the time.

Ah the problem I have with this video is when you're talking about how "the zombie virus couldn't spread cause the zombies are stupid". But literally the title of show says different. The whole "zombie virus" is something that has already spread to every human by time the outbreak happens. When a person dies (in any way that doesn't involve brain damage) they become a zombie. The whole thing that the zombies are spreading isn't the virus itself, it's just a VERY lethal infection. So if this virus was only spread by the bites, no it wouldn't destroy the world. But the virus already has spread to the whole world and just layed dormant until an infected person died. The virus and the infection are two completely seperate diseases, the infection causes death, and death activates the virus, but the two don't need each other in order to function.

Considering the fact you're limited to only a few cities when it comes to movement and zombie population, I would say if you killed enough, you'd eventually eradicate the infected. Stay indoors at night, and you're golden.

I think the most dangerous problem in a zombie apocalypse would be people wether the zombies are slow or fast. In a apocalypse, people would eventually adapt to it and learn survival skills and other things. But people are unpredictable and in an apocalypse, every person or group is for themselves. Also since there would be no laws or moral rights, coming across random people would be more terrifying

If you survive the initial wave, and the fresh walker wave after that, its possible for you to survive if careful.
The beginning is hell, zombies still have alittle human in them befire the start heavily deteriorating, so they are more nimble and smart. After a few weeks they're brains will be rotting, joints weakening, and will be soft skulled, as long as you dont wander into a recently over run area, fresh walkers will be few,. Get scraps and maybe but something protective on (moto helmet/hard hat, leather jacket, any tyoe of protected vest, jeans [2], steel toe boots, knee and elbow pads, and a backpack with [beans, fruits, veg, anything cannable, A knife, a gun for other survivors to politely say "fuck off" [optional]
And finally, a lighter with some kindling.]
And there you go, now your set to survive and thrive early game apocalipse.

I think the walker apocalypse only makes sense when you remember that zombie culture does not exist in TWD universe. And as the pandemic has shown, mass panic is actually easier to spread them we think. People hiding their symptoms, denialists everywhere, governments hiding the truth about the true extent of the disease damage... When you think about it, the way they treated the military in the shows for instance was pretty dumb. The fall of society, however... It actually makes a lot of sense... Just imagine if the 7 million victims COVID made so far decided to come back to life. Imagine 100, 200 corpses in a morgue just starting to wander around, the sick people in the hospitals, in makeshift medical centers... Our world is more fragile than we give it credit to.
