LOVED this video when I first saw it last year. It was perfect timing because I was moving from one place with 2 tiny bedrooms to 1 normal sized bedroom. With the tiny bedrooms, I had turned one into a closet and was loosing my closet moving into a bigger bedroom. I modified your plan to use custom cabinets to raise them to 40" and extended out 18" verses 15" (to fit a standard hanger). Each of the cupboard became a half closet! Thank you so much for sharing your idea!!
I'm watching this on Father's Day!! Happy Father's Day to all the wonderful dads out there! You do so much for us that we don't appreciate enough. Thanks for always being there even when we might not give you enough credit for the things you do. And thanks for always being there to support us through thick and thin! Shoutout to all Fathers!!!!!
You should keep a white wood panel inside of the crawl space so in case there is an intruder, you can hide in there and if they look inside the cabinet you can put the panel against the hole so it would look like an empty cabnet
this is a really great video - thorough explanation, well thought design with the materials used, and really cute dog at the end :~) I hope the bed is still going strong
Honestly though, I love this idea and was wanting to adapt it somehow to add a dog bed. With me and my husband, dog and a couple cats, I would like more room. I try to kick the dog out and she cries all night long and I feel so bad! Thanks for this video and excellent instructions! Great job👌
i built this bed about three years ago and it’s great! still sturdy, the storage is great and it looks good! everyone who comes over loves it :) thanks!
I have a dad like this. He has amazing such skills when it comes to cabinetry. It is as great as you think it is, but some builds take a lot of time too, especially since he's a perfectionist.
Good job on the bed! And I especially like the occupant of the bed at the end! He (she) seemed very happy with the bed as the tail was really wagging! lol!
It will make the crawling space even lower, but I would make the matress slightly sink between the cabinets. It would look prettier IMO, more like a whole. +it would prevent the matress from sliding a bit away from the wall, wich would annoy me big time :P.
+Fenke B I think sunk beds do look kind of cool but they pose 3 problems. My parents had a water bed those mattresses are usually sunk. Putting sheets on was a nightmare. Also, the comforter never sits nicely. Lastly, I remember my parents ALWAYS having a bruise or 2 on their shins and randomly hearing "ow!" as they crawled out of bed. It is so easy to hit yourself on the corners next to your mattress because the mattress sinks but the hard wood doesn't.
+Fenke B you wouldn't have to completely sink the mattress to stop it from moving. You could slightly drop it so that the mattress has a frame around it, and it shouldn't be too hard to make the bed as you can still access the corners and sides, just gives it the support to stop it moving around.
This is sooooo cool. My dad did stuff like this for me. He was one wonderful dad. Like you are... Thanks for the memory and for sharing your skills, talent and innovation!
My bedroom is VERY small so I don't know if it's a good idea for me... But it's truely the bed of my dreams!!! Anyway my parents will never agree with buy an other bed (actually buy kitchen cabinets XD) And... Sorry for my english I'm french, peace! ;)
+Bonnie Groom but then the thing is you dont need much walking space after. You have storage, a bed and probs have a wardrobe already in your room, you dont really need much other than that

+Chris Heider Thanks for the quick response. This sounds great! So glad your daughter has a great bed and storage. It looks very versatile and adaptable as time goes by.

Excellent work! You have re-set the bar for "How to Videos." I just have one design suggestion stemming from my own experience with storage beds, and that is to completely cover the bed slats with a light weight solid piece such as the decorative panel. My only disappointment with storage beds was how quickly saw dust and dirt drifts down through the slots and onto whatever is stored beneath them. My most recent solution to this problem was to tightly tack down a dust proof mattress cover that zipped along 3 sides to the corners and sides of the frame then installing the slats inside of it.
Hi, I stumbled upon your video a few days ago and I decided to make one for myself. Though I didn't use your design exactly, my design was very much inspired by yours. I opted to make mine free standing and fit the queen size variety. There's even a bit of extra room on the platform for standing or if I decide to change the mattress orientation. It's ALMOST done, it just needs a few finishing touches here and there. I would love to share pictures of it with out when I have it 100% together.
Please send me a picture too. I'm trying to make such a bed too.. I'm a girl but my teacher, dad and some other people will help me. Yaniiroo I think children are only scared of monsters underneath their beds, because they don't exactly know what is under them. If it's their cave, no monsters are invited :D
This is awesome, but I'd place the cabinets maybe under the mattress more so as to open up floor space and hide the edge... though the shelf created could also be useful... And I'd make up a pallet base for the mattress vs the centered beam. Too many issues with mattresses sagging after a couple years. Then, I'd also probably just do a solid platform and place a Japanese futon on top for sleeping. :)
It would be amazing if they were. I wish I was taught to do things like this (I graduated last year). But classes are just the standard classes to prepare us for tests and that's all. We don't have any classes that can be used for life itself.
Anna Tullison because you don’t think about the retards that accidentally cut off there fingers with the saw. And if you really thought about it I wouldn’t have to explain that to you
