Glen Helen is such a great track. Would much rather have a race there vs having two at Fox.
Troy is such an ICON. I can remember back in the day racing mini's at the DUNES and watching guys like Troy, Zahrt, Healy, all of those local 250 pros. They would be practicing and just rippin' on the international track middle of the week with nobody there. All my friends including myself all wanted a custom painted TLD helmet. Back then, if you had a TLD custom helmet then you "Made It". This would be similar to a "RedBull" sponsored helmet of today!

Gotta start by saying Troy is the man! I'm a huge fan of the one off races and GPs. I hope they grow the stopwatch nationals into a successful yearly event. I could even see it being west coast Loretta's eventually.
Greed is running our Mx series now days. Monopoly on anything is never good. Great show, thanks for sharing.
It's even worse at mxgp. Massive entry fee but No prize money, extremely hard for privateers to enter.gone are the days of turning up and qualifying for a chance at making the main show.hopefully the U.S. series don't follow suit.

I have the best Troy Lee story.
MotoGP Laguna 2007. I'm working for SCRAMP (the old Laguna Seca promoter) and I'm walking from the start/finish area up to the SCRAMP offices which are on the hill overlooking the track below. As you'd imagine the track is full of bikes, there are probably 20,000 motos onsite this day and I'm walking through a VIP parking area and I stop because there is a CRF450R set up with a supermoto kit and a license plate. Aaaaaand the craziest cherry red flake paint job. Out of all the bikes in the lot, this one really stuck out to me because as far as I knew you couldn't get a plate for a CRF450R and the paint was insane for a dirtbike. So I'm taking a long ass time looking and the owner walks up and it's Troy Lee. He winks at me when I ask about the plate, I'm sure he took off something else completely. Then he gave me his business card and his title said, "Sign Painter". He's a cool MF'er for sure.
I worked for him for 15 years. You ain't got stories... LOL! We used to say "our drinking team had a racing problem". I remember that bike. If I remember correctly, someone got fired because they borrowed it and crashed it, (which blew the paint off the plastic) then tried to lie about it.

My hometown track is GH. Its so sad that it hasnt been the schedule in years now. Such a gnarly track. 100x better than pala.
I remember I think is was 96 on the back rollers at the glen on the warm up lap McGrath and button were hitting the edge where the fans are at and the ground was shacking that’s when I knew motocross is next level ✌🏾
Glen Helen used to be called Arroyo cycle park in the very early 70s. That is where I first saw Rex Staten on his CZ wiping out the 250/450 expert class.
Glen Helen is awesome. Many memories watching nationals over 25 years.

Pala is like Indian dunes of old (Lake Elsinore). Glen Helen is like Saddleback Park.
Why should Bud spend all that money to host the national at GH if he can't get assurance (a contract) to do more than ONE race so that he can amortize his investment for at least 3 years, maybe more, of nationals? Promoters (DC) are playing games with Feldcamp. Yeah, sure, Bud loves his national motocross, but he also doesn't want to lose money. And maybe, he should even be able to turn a profit for his risk. Encourage promoters to return the nationals to GH for more than 3 seasons!
Pala raceway doesn’t care about the difficulty’s of getting in or out of the track Nor is it fan Friendly… went twice and won’t go anymore …. Give us GH Back Come on Guys we create a lot of revenue as fans look at the big picture …. Please …! 40yrmxr ..!!!

Glen Helen was and still is my favorite track. a tragedy
Got to ride at GH with the Smokin Joes Road racing team. Ben and Eric painted their boots with gold spray paint for fun. Ben had the head stops removed so he could flat track the bike into a corner,,,he came into me sideways and I lifted my feet on top of the tank but never touched me. Eric and Miguel were jumping over my head. Hey Steve Crevier rider up !
Still remember the first time I saw a Troy Lee signature on a visor in Motocross Action as a kid.
Mike Taylor Designs and Troy Lee Designs were the two hottest painters out there! Troy went with the clothing lines and broadened the appeal along with Fox apparel going main stream. I have two Mike Taylor Designs helmets in my collection.
The GH track is the funnest track and Loury is so kind and fun.
I was racing Glen Helen in 84, knew the Browns well. It will go the way of Saddle back and Carlsbad soon. can't fight the government when they start slipping money to the owners and advance the regulations at the same time. Developers have been incentivized with profit and no one with money will step up and save the track. The love of money....
Ok so I had no idea this is what he looked like. One time I was at Elsinore and he was there and said “hey nice helmet” (to my TLD) then I had a convo with him and had no idea who he was until now 😂

Yeah I've driven from Az to both glen Helen and Pala nationals. I don't think I'd go out of my way for Pala again, but I would for glen Helen. Way more epic track, history, and it doesn't take 4 hours to get out of the parking lot
Troy Lee is good for the sport. I was at the last Glen Helen naty and told Coombs to his face he is Bad for the sport. This is what really happened to the Mighty Glen Helen National. Davey is a scum bag and was trying to Bully the good Dr. and his son into ruining the track and loosing money on the national for the so-called prestige of having a AMA nat. They wanted to cut the track way down for sub 2 min lap times and extort the owners into losing money on the event. #BANDAVEYCOOMBS from the sport. Long live the Mighty Glen Helen!

I watched one ep of Cooksey's YT channel. it was all click bait and looney tunes mumbo jumbo. I wouldn't take anything that dude says seriously. that said, it's silly to not run GH at least every other year for as long as there are pro MX nationals. it would be like taking away Unadilla or Budd's Creek...just iconic stops.

@@daneg True, but he actually did a real article with research and talked to the Glen Helen owners and got dollar amounts. As Troy said, Pala is on the Rez so money is never an issue and MX Sports probably makes the most money on that event.
@@daneg i mean i can see how people dont like him, but he admits when hes wrong and he has had a lot of his calls come true or predictions as well. also, his report on the glen helen thing was legit, id check it out, like the other commenter said, he exposes how they take a percentage of everything and charge 100k just to host it.

Fixing the pro atv series is easy. Drop the production rule so they’re not stuck to new Yamaha’s or worn out Trx’s, Ltr’s, and such. Bring back the aftermarket frames. Imagine a Ltr geometry based Roll Lobo, Leager’s pro Trax, Walsh, LRD Attitude, etc with the fuel injected 450 engines or KTM 300 2 stroke…

Not even close to what Troy has accomplished business / team wise BUT we have a New England helmet painter that’s been painting pros / amateur rider lids since the early 90s or even earlier, not sure. He doesn’t have website, he uses instagram but all us New England guys from Maine to NY know a Hellion Designs lid - Lee Helliwell is our East Coast Troy Lee. Moto rules.

While I also agree not having two at Pala. Pala and Glen Helen are so close. Why should SoCal get two nationals. There's an entire rest of the country. SoCal gets 3 supercross races. They don't need two nationals too.
They removed Glen Helen because it was one of the last tracks to could push the limits !!!
Having an outdoor NATIONAL is easy, just throw down $100,000++ and it's all good, after you spend at least that much EVERY YEAR to get & keep the track side amenities up to snuff as well!!!

@byshopwilliams8256 Evens the playing field because it's new for everyone, So most of the riders have ridden it year after year, plus it's just more exiting to see some new tracks, Imo, I would like to see some more sand tracks personally. But even just 1 new track a year would be nice.
I think that's what's cool about the New speedway tracks is it's just something different that we haven't seen all the Pro's ride before

Glen Helen is a great riders track, but facilities are pretty run down. Attending outdoor MX is a rip off anymore. High ticket prices plus parking? Pala last year did it for me. Never going again.
Glen Helen is THE track for pro nationals in SoCal. Fox raceway is NOT a pro national track.
Check the ten most dangerous things that you can do, and motorcycles aren't in the top ten, bicycles used to be 5th.
GH is better than Hangtown..
what do those two tracks have to do with each other? they are seven hours apart. plus hangtown is better than pala. so pala still loses.

Pala is the worst track of the season
They want the GH owner to spend a ton of money for improvements with nothing in return. GH used to be great with fun jumps. Now it’s 4th 5th gear super high speed and dangerous. If they build some good jumps to slow the speeds down it would be better.
