I remember when I was in my late teens, a guy named Eddie Haag. He was in the army and the older brother of my boyfriend. He liked me and one night he was trying to impress me by confiding in me that there was a discovery happening in communication. He showed me a small plastic circuit board that had solder paths and lumps of solder. He told me that this small object contained on/in it the entire multi volume Encyclopedia Britainica. At the time I had no idea of what he was talking about, but I listened and tried to comprehend what he was telling me. Watching Elon Musk in this interview reminds me of the Conversation with Eddie @65 years ago. I really want to comprehend. And I hope we will reach Mars👏❤

We will find that Elon agrees with his own quotes because he's not a liar, he's not a politician. Like anyone he can and will grow in certain areas in his life and his POV will mature but that will not be a dramatic change because he gives thoughtful consideration to the issues.

@@johndoo5363 I have mixed feelings about that cuz he's just so valuable in the private sector especially if we can liberate people in the private sector a little bit. There does need to be regulations and laws but The things I've seen in terms of regulations that don't make any sense, regulations that made sense 30 years ago and don't make sense anymore, during my decades as health insurance actuary are mind-blowing and often very expensive. And the money that we spent on complying with astronomical numbers of regulations unfortunately comes right out of the premiums of people buy insurance from us. Regulations are literally so thick that even lawyers can't tell you exactly what all the regulations are that apply in a particular situation. It's just crazy. In many other industries too like banking which I know a fair amount about. In fact the cost of regulations designed to prevent Banks from being too big to fail have made the big Banks even larger because the cost is a much more serious burden on the smaller Banks than it is on the larger Banks and as a result a lot of the smaller Banks got gobbled up by the bigger banks making the problem they were attempted to address far worse. In this case I'm talking about Dodd-Frank. The same thing was true of sarbanes-oxley.

I’m especially thankful to Elon for his assistance (via his company SpaceX) with restoring Tonga’s internet access following the 2022 volcano eruption/Tsunami that severed the sole fibre-optic undersea cable connecting the island to the rest of the world. My daughter lived there and thanks to Elon I was finally able to establish contact with her and the children..

Immigration for wife back in the early 2000's was very difficult. it took 1 1/2 for her t get here, through the proper channels. Now its a free ride without consequences. It's total garbage, we have no accountability; how many are criminals or terrorist. It's outrageous.
Yup. In my case it I didn't pass financial tests twice over a 5 year period my wife would have been deported. She should have come on a boat and stayed in a 5 star hotel. Would haved saved me a lot of time and 7k in immigration fees. Smash the state.

The Founding Fathers struggled with the first two Amendments, some wanted the Right to Keep and Bare Arms as the 1st and Free Speech as 2nd ... they felt BOTH were THAT important.
Nope, they did not believe in the right to display their arms in public. In fact, T-shirts were not popular back then. Also, you have your Amendments backwards. The First Amendment deals with free speech. The Second Amendment puts forth the right to "bear" (meaning "to have" firearms) and form a militia in times where the security of the free state is at risk. You might want to spend less time on right-wing media and more time studying on the things you want to comment on.
And in France the founding fathers said « no need to write down the right to bare arms as it is Sooo obvious that we have this right »….so no 2nd amendment for France..

At one time Pangea was one large land mass and slowly over time it broke apart and is currently heading around the planet to once again form one large land mass connecting California to Asia. I was a kid in 1969 when we landed on the moon. I thought by the time I grew up, we'd have colonies all over the universe. Very exciting time. Then, in 1971 a teacher told me "don't expect much. All the money in the future will be going to social programs."
I thought that was ludicrous. Space exploration and colonization would solve so many problems. But, he was right. Politicians don't give a damn about space, they care about social programs and giving people money to vote for them. Basically, staying in office as long as they can.
As a Kid I thought adults knew better than that. As an Adult, I know better.

Most people loved the idea, but a significant number didn't. So, this thinking wasn't unique and it was quite common, even tho it was the first I had heard it. But, I was only 15. If none of your teachers had the foresight to predict it...well, don't know what to tell you. I don't' remember what subject he taught or even his name. Just remember it was one of my male teachers and he wore a rumpled suit. What does it matter? It doesn't.
It was foolish to think people would care about colonizing other planets when most people don't even move out of cities they were born in 😂

I would love to talk to Elon about HAL 9000. His situation was so nuanced. He was programmed to be curious and completely transparent with all information. And these directives were his primary program. He was ordered to hide information and the order to lie corrupted his virtuous directives and twisted them into paranoia, fear, panic, and then murder. I wonder if AI could ever develop a psyche so complex as HAL's, as he also considered himself a consciousness and found it necessary to protect himself in order to carry out his directives. Could a paradox of conflicting orders cause an AI to act in such an extreme? These are questions worth asking and it is interesting that Kubrick was starting to ask them and express these concerns - which many now ignore - back in 1968.

Great point about laws never dying Elon. There should be a Constitutional amendment that institutes an auto expiration date on every law passed. Congress has to periodically re authorized laws
That and, for every new law, ordinance, decree, order, etc. at least 2 other ones should be removed. Hopefully one day we'd end up with one last rule: do whatever you like as long as it doesn't negatively affect anyone else.

Let me put it this way, in Western countries, sanitation and clean water didn't just fall out of the sky (well I guess it kinda did), we built it, and we didn't need any of Elon Musk's money to do it. So, the 5-year-olds around the world can ask their mommies and daddies if, pretty please, with sugar on top, could they stop ask for hand-outs and build some fucking plumbing!
