One of the best endings to a live performance ever.
well actually its the intro of the next song For The Love of God
Absolutely agree !!
This was his intro to the show-in 97 here in Las Vegas--And it is in this sequence on the DVD I own-of this exact performance.
I Agree.
The end sweep picking+regular picking+tapping section are insanely good and impressive..
The Guy with the hat, plays guitar, drums, keyboard, Cook for the band, Drive the bus, and Sing 😁😁😁😁🤣🤣
ruclips.net/video/hEtZpLk1jjc/видео.html&feature=emb_logo&ab_channel=MikeKeneallyChannel%28Official%29
That's the legendary Mike Keneally [sic].
Beer for Dolphins
And sings " My guitar wants to kill your mama". Yeppers
😅😅😅😅😅😂😂😂😆😆😆😂😂😂
3:35 and forward has inspired me for years..
That tapping section is mythical. Ethereal. When I first heard that as a young guitarist, I was in awe. 16 years later and I still am.
Ahh finally found this. I remember this having its own video years ago. So happy to be here for this again.
The CD version of this concert - this Lydian, key-shifting tapping sequence is even longer and just beautiful...
@@DanielVerberne The album one is one of my favorite segments of guitar playing ever.
They're all in sync. The keyboard chords just match perfectly with everything Steve does. One hell of a band
His tone back then was unmatched
the bogner eh
Daniel de Freitas - Your Royal Shredness still wonder what speakers are in those green 4x12’s
Still is
I really wonder why he strayed away from this lead tone? It was the best
@@lewisjones4158 my best guess is he didn't want it to become too redundant and he's a man who loves to experiment. He developed the Carvin amps and distortion pedals and infused them with fractal axe fx later, and I'd argue his tones are just as unique and great as back then.
One of the best perfomances of Vai, the first time I saw this DVD it blew my mind!.
Well, Fire Garden just happened to be MY favorite album, and with Mike Keneally and mike mangini, this is Prime Vai, 1996.
I first saw it on VHS shows ya how old I am lol
idem
It was my first experience with guitar being played for real. Saw it for the first time on DVD in 2003, I guess... 20 years later I'm still here, with my 6 and 7 strings loyal friends :)
Same
Playing the feedback with the whammy bar.... LEGENDARY!!!!
It took me literally 20 years to cross this gem again, ffaanntastic.
Steve was at his technical peak at this point, right in the Alien Love Secrets/Ultra Zone era. The stuff he played on those albums was outrageous.
Peak Gear too, sound is incredible.
Totally agree man, Tender Surrender is his masterpeice.
I'm not sure Steve has a peak...
I 100% agree!
This was Fire Garden era actually. The album cover is the mural :)
That two handed tapping at 4:13 is some of the best I've ever seen.
So clean.
Mike Mangini was the best drummer Vai's ever had. By far.
Nah he had Virgil Donati
@@マシュードーラン I LOVE Virgil, but he has a fusion vibe that I don't think fit Vai's band as well as MM's technical rock vibe.
My favourite era of Vai, the albums and the live stuff. His rhythm section here is just ridiculous. I miss the 90’s 😢
I would love to have had a camera just watching what Mike Mangini is doing on the drums. Absolutely insane!
4:38 -- playing out the feedback, in the manner that he did, with the steppin', was a god move...
Hendrix Bro
He changes the octave note of the feedback, 3 times by manipulating the field of sound around him between amps. I have never seen anyone do such a thing. Mind blowing.
1:38 hammerin’ those keys like there’s no tomorrow 😂
The end when he spins his wammy made me piss my pants 😂😂 it looks so fucking funny 😂😂😂
Vai at his undeniable prime
Steve at his best, but Mike Kenelly here is a real Master, switching flawless between keyboard parts and guitar parts
Well, Fire Garden just happened to be MY favorite album, and with Mike Keneally and mike mangini, this is Prime Vai, 1996.
And drums too, you can see in minute 1:35 , a F****ng genius!
24 years old.. Unbelievable
Huh? He was 36/37 here
@@kevins4222 The concert is 24 years old...
This is the best sounding, best performing Steve Vai ever recorded, that night was inspired like never before and after, heavenly elevated, didn’t miss a note, astonishingly expressive. He played the best versions of every piece that night, wow
He misses a note at 4:07. Still an awesome solo, though.
@@cptnoremac hahahahaha .. only thing he missed was the feedback at 4:50 ...otherwise a perfect performance.
@Onikage IKR ... hahahahahaha
@@strangher11 You really sound like a fanboy idiot. He was doing octaves and you think for just one note he was a half step too high on purpose? It's live music and anyone can make a mistake. It's not the end of the world.
@Onikage Don't be butthurt.
Genius Vai using the feedback loop to create harmonics. He is a great inspiration to many, has done so much for the development of playing the guitar. He was first with so many things !
The Ultra Zone made me a Steve Vai fan…this song and end solo made him my favorite guitarist forever and ever!
He made that bead of sweat fall from his head right on cue at the very end. And the feedback control at the end❤️ This performance is guitar sorcery and dance combined.
The best version live from this song;
3:34 sounds like a dream you don’t want to wake up out of an Alice In Wonderland reflection a reflection bro to just stay calm and enjoy the emotions & expressiveness of Steve Vai!
3:34 is my childhood lmfao
2024 still the best
Incredible performance of Steve and his musicians ! That's a beautiful share...
Legendary performance...
such an uplifting song
If you were not sure of how great Steve Via is , this had better change your mind for good . Wow ...
From 2:50 onward, it's one of the best solo I've ever seen in my life. G3-1996, still in my memory since then 🙂
I always love the "Little Green Men" quote. 2:08 , I always knew Steve from other projects, but an old friend turned me on to Flex-Able early enough to find my own copy, love, savor, and commit every song to memory. And, when Passion and Warfare was released, I pounced on it, only to my surprise, hear "The Answer", and my ears pleasantly perked to the familiar "ba-na-noo-na-na-na-noo..." part. Sans vocal of the original, of course.
Steve Vai Rhythm, Solo guitar, Philip Bynoe Bass, Mike Mangini Drums And Mike Kennally on Keyboards and Rhythm guitar.
wow is that mangini? i hate him in dream theatre
@@krusher74 to each their own. Mangini adds another level of finese that was already in Portnoy but wasn't explored
Best Steve Vai band!!
BEST Steve Vai sound by Bogner amps amazing sound!
From 4:13 to the end....anybody have that in tab? The most magical set of hammerons I've ever heard.
Cool hat If you had the tab could you play it though?
@@SuperEdge67 If I had the tab....and enough practice time, I should be able to play it. It would be worth the effort!! :)
tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/tab/steve-vai/answers-g3-power-312727
Play it from a PC to be able to hear it online. From a phone sucks.
@@carl_anderson9315 its not th>s exact same version. But a lot of the parts are there. Theres a guy on youtube teaching the closest version to this.
This live version is the trickiest.
@@visiontranscend60 Yeah, it’s not 100 % exact but pretty close. At least it gives you an overall idea.
I’ve always loved the weird little vibrato he does at 1:55.
My favorite track on that dvd. Amazing x1000
One of Noel Fielding's finest gigs
as a kid my dad had a vhs tape of this whole g3 show and ill never forget the memory of seeing that background and this song as a 5 year old for the first time.
Even the feedback at the end is superior and pleasant to listen to.
ILoveYou❤FromJAPAN😂
The ending is peak Val.
When I saw this tour I came for my love of Steve Vai but as a drummer could not keep from staring at the GREAT Mike Mangini. What a tour still think of that night!
If you love this, have a listen to the G3 album which must have been recorded on different nights. Very similar but slightly different performances.
Philip's just really enjoying himself here.
Love Phillip awesome bass player.
I like this line up!!!
Mari kita semua menunggu buka puasa sambil dengerin yang satu ini hehe
His best song
Mike Mangini showing bands things about their own songs since before 1995 👌🏽
Mangini tearin' it up
Keneally is a monster... The best Vaí's band!!!
The harmony part that Mike Keneally way up the neck is considerably more difficult than Steve's part. But as always, Mike makes it seem like the easiest thing in the world. Unreal musicianship.
Amazing 3.55 in absolutely incredible shivers wow.
Mangini and Steve!!!
Matti Honkala Mike mangini
beyond words nice finish
Phil B is a G !
fuckin’ amazing love this live version of the answers with the incredible mike kineally
Best compotition ever...
Las epocas cuando veias un concierto en paz! ahora todo el mundo con el bendito movil grabando!!! una pena!
I remember watching this performance and thought that second guitarist was so cool .. he plays keys and does rhythm and then harmonize with steve.. to this day i dont know his name
SCRollNinja Mike Keneally
That's Mike Keneally, dude. One of the world's great session musicians.
Legend...!!!!!!! 🌈😎👍🎶
Saw this Vai tour live at variety playhouse in Atlanta... WOW!
what a fucking god, im coming for you steve 🫵🥸
Breathtaking.
Never saw anyone use feedback like that. Totally cool!
Mister Pumpkinhead Steve copied this off his buddy Joe Satriani from the single Flying in a Blue Dream, listen to the outro.

The stage techs were on point this show!
El Roberto Carlos de la tocarra;)🤣!☝🏽🤟🏽🎸 Awesome!
drummers humble beginings
best g3 ever
la mejor banda de Steve...que grande!!...Mike un genio
As Devin Townsend once incredulously delcared in a tone almost as a question, "I just heard YOUR brain!"
this was his best tone
01:29 invraissemblable.
Sacré musicien Steve Vai :)
❤️
Awesome mangini
I think my 3 biggest influences are EVH, Malmsteen and Val! :)
Those who always compared Mangini and Portnoy, listen here .. his drum sound is awemazing!
Mike Mangini young Genius
4:10 ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I've been watching this performance since the DVD came out back in 1997 and still to this day I'm even more sure the Audio and video of this performance are taken from separate performances and cobbled together. There are quite a few points where I"m watching and thinking "wait what? That's not what anybody on stage was playing right then". The whole section starting around 0:45 doesn't seem right.
Mmm kinda match for me
ooooh those wires
I just want to be the guy wearing the jester hat, he is so cool!
epic shirt lol
Young Mangini skill full👍
A great show of the real music instead of the fake thing Vai puts out in his official videos
SUBLIME!!!!
Bass player looks like mike Tyson with braids!
Anyone know what guitar pickups he used around this time? SO smooth and perfect sounding. I know he used a Bogner Ecstasy for this period also, which I own!
The guitar he’s playing here is Evo, so I’m 99% sure the pickups are Evolutions.
Another interesting detail is that he is using the Ecstasy as a preamp and the Egnater as Power amp for the Dry center cab. This line output is mixed with extra wet effects (H3000 and Roland Delays) and fed to a stereo VHT power amp for Left and Right cabs.
This goes in line with his current setup in which he switches different preamps at his Synergy modules and feeds them into a Fryette Power amp (literally a VHT)
No flashes no cámaras otras epocas
Predator on bass
4:11 behold a god
Easter egg is the bass player is also playing the snare drum with his impressive derriere,
