Kwi second hand market, this is the decision I am struggling to make (320i LCI and 330i pre-facelift vs GTI). BMW has a luxurious appeal, automatic tailgate for example. GTI on the other hand has seat warmers & coolers, adaptive suspension, better cruise control and that cool thing about it.
Front wheel drive is quicker to launch than rear wheel drive, it's basic science and Not the reason why the Golf is slower than the BMW. When going through a Dyno test for true real world power BMWs always report far more power than what is advertised, even the M5 revealed 100 extra Newton meters of Torque over the advertised power figures which is substantial. In a front wheel drive the weight of the engine puts more traction on the spinning wheels whereas in a rear wheel drive car this does not happen since the wheels spin seperately thru the rear differential where there is less weight applied on the wheels. This is why in powerful rear wheel drive cars, traction is lost if full power is applied, hence why everyone fits pulling power to the front wheels as well in majority of super cars, yet alone BMW themselves when they moved from the F models to the G models for the M performance models. The only time rear wheel drive wins is at top end speeds since there is less drive train inertia, watch races between the rear wheel drive BMW M3 vs the 4 wheel drive BMW M3 where this is demonstrated.
Not really all cars pitch when they lauch, resulting in front wheels/tires lifting meaning they’re not gonna put power down properly, check out the polo GTI review on this channel I explained it properly there
Dude It's Science! The cars you're testing are too underpowered for you to get it. RWD struggles to put power down as compared to FWD, I've owned both turbo VWs (G7 GTI and Polo 1.9 TDI Sportline) and Beemers(F30 328i), I even grew up driving a V8 powered BMW, I've driven the C63 and M3, I've been through the reviews, even when playing Gran Turismo, FWD cars shoot off from start as compared to RWD. I'll give you a test, throw a FWD and a RWD on a mud surface and see who has more traction, FWD will always have it easier because the spinning wheel has more weight on it from the engine hence why 4WD systems exist for the front axle. When you add weight to the spinning tyres, they contact the surface of the road more, FWD has the weight of the engine on it which enhances road contact and launch. The Beemer with its 50/50 weight distribution doesn't have enough rear exle weight for optimal launch control when in RWD mode only and thus will struggle for traction as compared to the FWD. American drag cars suffer from this problem and it's exactly why they have poor real world launch performance ie: Dodge Demon It's basic science also the previous M3 and C63 had the same problem at launch, Mclarens are also prone to losing their rean end at launch for these reasons. Even by your own logic, the front raising on a FWD which has its engine hanging over the front axle will have less effect than having the engine behind the front axle and power coming from the rear wheels like in the Beemer. (Motor Bike Effect) The RS3 has a Haldex FWD system like the Golf with rear wheel assist hence why it's engine sits horizontally and its front tyres are bigger than it's rear tyres. The RS3 being predominantly a FWD smokes the Ford Mustang to shame making its powerful V8 useless for the reasons I mentioned above. Go to a drag strip and do your research around powerful cars so you'll be adequately informed and you'll notice why Mclarens always need the half mile to catch up with the Porsche Turbo S.

RWD is quicker to launch in summer, FWD in winter. In ideal conditions (summer) the weight shifts onto the back putting more pressure on the back tires and the RWD is supperior. The rolling race is different in terms of phisics so it's less important if it's RWD or FWD , it's all about the power. 😉

I think the reason why we don't have the tsi model of golf 8 has to do with pricing. They will be expensive and won't sell well. People would rather buy a used golf 7 gti over a brand new golf 8 tsi.
