I'm glad that though you're much larger now and more popular you still review cars that aren't insane and not exclusively high horsepower or expensive cars
Another great review David! I've never driven the first gen, but after watching this video I'm pretty sure I'd like it a lot better than the second gen that I wasn't crazy about. Those launches at the end were sweet haha! Love the editing too as always! Keep up the great work man!
TheSpottedLion ST! I own one and have been in and working on a few 1st an 2nd ten Speeds, the Focus is an all around nicer, more balanced vehicle. I love mine to death!
NAE 1k depends. How experienced are you with car repair? Are you a fast driver or a normal driver. Do you like to go fast all the time or every once in a while? How well can you drive a manual, as these ONLY come with a 6 speed manual.
Buddy owns one of these, I have NEVER felt a car pull in 6th gear like this one can. Didn't understand why until I saw the torque numbers, then it made sense. Also these things are the definition of sleepers!!
The problem is that would jack the price up. The real selling point of the MS3 is the relatively low price, with a stupid amount of turbocharged power, and a decent interior and exterior.
Great to see a review of the first gen. I have this car and I absolutely love it! It so much fun without being too much to handle. And it travels great, so comfy but fun at the same time. Great review man!
I stumbled onto this video, I'm interested in scooping up a '13 Mazdaspeed3 pretty soon. I love your reviews and it's great seeing the local Chesapeake area in the backdrop! Keep up the great work!
I watched this review in December 2018, at the time was looking at one. Ended up buying it, here we are 9 months later and I love it. Most fun car I've owned.
I’m with ya brotha. After owning my Speed 3 for 16 years now, she still runs great, and reliable. Maintenance is key to longevity, and that’s where the speed 3 shines. It was once my daily driver up to about 58k miles on it, and now it’s my weekender joy rider. No mods, except cosmetic, and engine still stock. As always, it passes smog checks without a hitch, and still drives the same way as the first day I bought it. This Iconic classic will still be around for another 16 years with me, that’s for sure😇👍🙏 Thanks for the post brotha, despite it was9 years ago👍
My wife has a regular mazda 3 and I drive a charger with a semi in int. When I get to drive her mazda to take for oil changes or whatever, I smile all the way! Mazda 3 is extremely fun to drive and nimble and torquey even with the stock settings. Omg, mazda knows how to build fun to drive cars man...
Dodge charger is like driving a boat. Too heavy and powerful. Extremely dull and boring. That's why the best and most fun cars are going to be the lightest and with less power so you can drive it like a maniac without worrying about getting pulled over!!
You should make a video on how Boost actually works. Ik that I for one, know that its cool and makes a car fast but I dont know how it works! Just and idea! Awesome car!

bought my 2008 mazdaspeed 3 about month ago and I love it! I put on a Corksport turbo back exaust, blowoff value, and intake. this car is fast and so much fun to drive as my daily. cause of the torque I can cruise in 3rd or 4th gear very easy so I can eat and drive to school without issues ha.

I enjoy watching your video reviews and vlogs Brah! I especially like this one because I honestly didn't know what to think about Mazda speed, reliability, etc. Also, I'm glad you filmed this one in Chesapeake, Awesome! Keep the great videos coming!
Own a 2009 and wouldnt trade it for ANYTHING. Absolutely lovely and the only thing you will want to do the VVT upgrade around 100k miles (or sooner if you hear a rattle on startup left side of engine). Lowered mine, new cold air intake, and also did the rear motor mount replacement. It's just a raw and fun car on every level, now. I cannot stress this enough...BUY ONE IF YOU CAN!
@@HierarchyOfWeeds I did end up buying one, its been great for me. Ive put 15k+ miles on it in the last year. From what im told you just need to watch a few key things.. I’ve got a 2008 motor blew previous owner beat it, 700$ marketplace motor and she’s been great ever since just drove 1800km nonstop with zero issues Toronto-nova Scotia , keep up on the maintenance and you’ll be good, the cars are amazing nothing else compares
I got stationed overseas and now I need a car. I own a 2013 gti that makes 450whp and is just an absolute sleeper but I didn’t want to get it shipped over here because it’s rust like crazy. So now I’m on the hunt for another car and for some reason hatchbacks hit me in just the right spot so I’m on my way to pick one of these up. Gotta love it.
I am absolutely in love with my 1st gen ms3. Plenty quick, amazing to drive and the interior doesn't make you feel like you're in a 10 year old Japanese hatchback
SuperNuclearDeath it's really not that bad. A friend of mine has a 350whp speed3, you need to be aware, countersteer or lift when needed, but it's pretty drivable.
I own a Mk1 3 as seen in this video. Everyone complaining about torque steer is talking shit. Yes there is a little bit but it actually makes it more fun for me, it's seriously not as bad as people make it out to be.
LimeTree seriously bro people are over dramatic as fuck lol literally the tq steer is so minimal its baby shit. Try driving a 500whp gutted integra with no lsd, now the tq steer on that is a bitch sometimes
I had a speed 3 over here in the U.K. where it's known as a Mazda 3 MPS. I had mine running a Corksport SRI+TIP, Corksport down pipe, custom secondary cat delete and catback, Turbosmart BPV, ETS Top mount and a custom tune via a COBB AP V3. Running around 315whp and 345ft/lb on the stock k04 turbo. Yes the torque steer is crazy but on a roll it murdered many things, my kill list was funny.
I bought mine with 101,xxx miles and now it has 144,xxx miles. Since i got it all ive done to it was coil overs, oil changes at 3000k miles, new sparkplugs, coilovers, sway bar links front/back, driver side axle, vvt upgrade, rmm damond motorsports, Cobb Accessport. All these optional changes i did. The only thing that has failed me yet was the MAF which i replaced already and shes running good as new
08 ms3 owner here. I love this car. Can't ever see myself driving another car(unless it's another speed3, which is in the works) I did my first engine swap in this car after I flipped avoiding a car. Now I have 2 engines and can swap in 3 days 😈
I love my speed 3. Just recently put a new motor, CorkSport turbo, hpfp, ap, freektune, rear motor mount, short shift link, Cobb shift knob, and I think it’s lowered (from previous owner).
I learned to drive stick in one of these. It screwed me over because I always end up in a way higher gear than I should be when I drive something else. I'm so used to crazy torque haha
got mine brand new with 10 miles on it in 09. had no idea how to drive a manual. the first month was quite a learning experience. I baby the shit out of it. only 23500 on her now. Love this car, that said. last brand new car I will ever buy. car payments suck.
I got myself a 07 a few months back as my second car, but first with a manual transmission....so my gears suffered and I only just now got the hang of getting the thing to move quickly. Still more fun then driving auto 😁
Back in my high school days the intake/exhaust/tune MS3 at our school would walk bolt on S197s. It surprised a LOT of people there, since the hatchback look is pretty disarming at first glance.
Great vid I love my 08 I just got a few months back I have a nice bolt on and mod list I might make a vid on and post just cause of how much I love these little hatchbacks
i had one of these from 2008-2010 and all i felt it needed in terms of "power" upgrades was an intake and test pipe. some other things aside from that as well to improve things but not in the power department. DI, high compression and a smallish turbo on top of FWD can go quickly from fantastic to annoying with too much power, imo. i had an Accessport when it first came out for that platform and while it definitely made more power...it became more annoying in terms of traction issues, so i sold it. i felt that car was a great overall value, esp. with the GT package. the base econobox 3 from that gen is great so the MS3 is that much better in every way.
Hey David, I know its not exactly in your hands, but I wanted to ask you if you see yourself reviewing a modified DSM, mostly a 2g but any. If you don't know just respond back. It was nice seeing this mazda, glad to see a good change. Thanks David!
Of 258000 miles on my car it's the same model in the same year and it's still on a stock clutch and the clutch is not slipping they build phenomenal clutches
Mazda life though.
Thanks for watching!
Do a g35 pleeaasse
Hey David just wondering are there any aw11 mr2s where you live and if so can you review one?
God damn this MS3 sounds awesome! Good review David.
MR2, Mazdaspeed6?
Hey, you should definitely do a review on a Mazda Rx8, or an Infiniti G37!
I can't get over how good looking of a hatch the first gen mazda3s were
unmusedtails so much better than the mk2
I agree just bought mine a couple days ago and I love it! Definitely a much more beautiful car compared to the gen2
The little things on the exterior really accentuate the Mazdaspeed 3's swagger, compared to the base model.
They Still Are I got a 08

Aidan red I always will! The car world is a vast place. haha

Once you own one... nothing compares... It's not just the power, there is a fun factor to the 07-09 speed3's. They are incredibly fun to drive.
No truer words typed.
I'm looking at buying an 08' :)
me too.. looks like fun. I'm going monday to decide to make the downpayment
+Nname Withheld I'm looking at an 08 but it's like 300 miles from me.. Just need to work something out with the dealer and drive down there!
I JUST bought one. Not even at jhome yet. An 07. Test drove it today. God damn these things are scary lol
After selling my '12 WRX I picked up a '09 MS3 and I actually have a lot more fun with this car. Love it.

Best automotive choice I've ever made, such a great car. It's a reliable daily driver that smokes 90% of other cars. Such a wolf in sheep's clothing.
Darth Carloos do you still have it and how many miles does it/did it have?
how reliable was it i wanna buy one thats reliable

LlLnig stay in school kid... you need it.
LlLnig Youre just jelly cos your car is slower. Also looks are a matter of opinion, you may like your mom but to everyone else she looks like a man.
I always like the Mazdaspeed 3 but I really think it needs to be all wheel drive to compete with the focus golf and wrx
AWD speed3 is coming bro. 2015 or 2016 for sure.

Nope! I love it more than Gen2 from a far!
I think that Gen1 is better too... it has a more low end look, it´s smaller and do not have that funny smile on the front hahaha
It has a better design overall lol.
Nope. I have a gen1 so maybe I'm biased. but i like the front end and the hatch better on the genwon.

Yes the torque steer is crazy but on a roll it murdered many things, my kill list was funny.
pretty awesome that you did the first gen as well. Thank you!
You should do a review on a Cobalt SS Tc. I feel like those cars are super spelt on. Arguably one of the fastest front wheel drive cars
As usual a solid review man.
Finally what I was waiting for!
Earned my like in the first 20 seconds with that intro
drove from SD to Seattle in my 08 speed3, bone stock. It really was nice, mainly due to the insanely comfortable seats =)
Love your videos by the way! Always looking forward to what you might review next.
Im going to look at a 2007 Mazdaspeed 3 tomorrow and even tho it's older, I'm already pumped!
Void56 did you get it?
J.A.G. Unfortunately no I did look at it and it’s a great car but my mind wants a Nissan 350z. It’s like I can’t decide almost between the two lol
Nice review ! I would love to see a speed6 review!!. love the videos keep it up, have a good one.
I love my speed 3. Just recently put a new motor, CorkSport turbo, hpfp, ap, freektune, rear motor mount, short shift link, Cobb shift knob, and I think it’s lowered (from previous owner).
One of my bucket list cars.
That launch control is awesome!
Miss my 08 speed3 so much I literally cry every time i see one.
Nice review! Would like to see some clips of the owners incorporated into your reviews, I really like hearing from the owners of the cars.
I got myself a 07 a few months back as my second car, but first with a manual transmission....so my gears suffered and I only just now got the hang of getting the thing to move quickly. Still more fun then driving auto 😁
That ending sold me. Buying one tomorrow
Not joking, I actually bought one next day.
+D.J Sailor lol
really? how do you like it so far? xD
Just bought one same year for a daily super comfortable seats and yea the glovebox is insane
i had one of these from 2008-2010 and all i felt it needed in terms of "power" upgrades was an intake and test pipe. some other things aside from that as well to improve things but not in the power department.
Love your videos! Keep up the good work!
I Still come back to watch this one
Digging the Hawaii sticker in the back. Looking at an 09 speed3 here on Oahu
how reliable are mazda cars? I LOVE the look of their cars, but currently own a Honda with 127k with only basic maintenance
Of 258000 miles on my car it's the same model in the same year and it's still on a stock clutch and the clutch is not slipping they build phenomenal clutches
Awesome Video David!!
David since you liked the MS3 you should definitely review the NSRT4!! Sweet little cars and a lot of fun to drive!
Managing that torque steer!
whathefuckdood not as bad as one would think
