    Gotta fact check you there, man. These are NOT Ecoboost engines. This is the 2.3 MZR DISI Turbo. The engines are related, but different in key ways. Also, the torquesteer is more of a scrub radius issue. I’ve been enjoying my 2010 for a long time and learned a ton over a decade about the platform.
    Good review overall.

    Little note: The timing chain likes to go on all the Speeds until 2010, you will notice it, but it's also something to consider. They usually go between 75-90k miles.
    Ps: I'm not trying to say it's a bad car/bad engine but as I said it's something to consider, I love these cars but Mazda is turning into a Luxury car maker unfortunately. 😔

    I’ve always wanted to drive The first generation MazdaSpeed3 , so many people just love them except the torque steer of course. The first car I learned to drive stick on was my first car a 1999 Audi A4. I bought it in 2001 and I did not want to ruin the clutch, so I also bought a 1990 Volkswagen cabriolet manual for 500 bucks to learn how to drive a stick. But here I had my beautiful Audi A4 sitting around and I’m driving a Hooptie, so after about a month I just got in the Audi and went for it. And man oh man you definitely learn the smell of burning clutch quick LMAO

    My grandparents have this car (the 100hp 1.6l one tho) and its hands down the most op car to do road trips in (especially to romania / turkey from switzerland). It has a lot of trunk space, better leg room than my 2012 XC90 and never ever broke down, even on the harsh romanian pothole littered roads, while the Volvo gave problems on every longer trip I made. The interior quality is acutally excellent for this price range, it even blows any newer (2015+) c class out of the water by a LOT. Besides that it looks normal enough to not be stolen and is cheap enough that everyone could afford one

    I’ve recently just purchased the Mazda3 s grand touring, it’s a year 2007 first edition hatchback! I fell in love with the car the moment I saw it on the dealerships online inventory. My car came with 70k miles dam near new, the interior the lights especially the extra cargo room in the back is just incredible. I am the first in my family to own a hatch and the Mazda3 is one of the best cars to me. I still have that same feeling of test driving it the day I purchased. Super zoomie car rides amazing good sound and just an all around looker! This video was dope glad to see people appreciate this model just like me keep going brother.

    I bought a black 2009 Speed3 as my first "expensive" ($9000 was expensive for 19 year old me) car in June 2017. That thing was a monster, it pulled like crazy on boost while still largely flying under the radar. Most people didn't even realize it was a hot hatch until they heard the turbo spool. Mine had a pod filter from the previous owner, so it had that sweet induction noise.
    And not only was it fast, it was practical. I delivered pizzas when I bought this car, and I delivered ~100 boxed of pizza to the local high school for their prom night in 1 trip 2 years in a row in that car. I also helped a friend move apartments in it (I ran out of space in the hatch and ended up ratchet strapping his mattress to the roof), I took it on junkyard runs, and I even helped my dad pick up loads of copper and PVC pipe for his plumbing business in it.
    My main complaints with the car were that service access isn't very good (I mostly own Hondas now and they're far easier and cheaper to maintain) and that you have to run at least 91 octane (91 octane is pretty rare where I live, so I had to pay extra for 93, which is much more common), especially if you liked to drive fast, which I certainly did. And I had this car back when gas prices were cheap, and it usually cost me ~40 to fill my tank. I sold it in February 2021, only a month or 2 before gas prices spiked. My current car, a 2015 Honda Fit, costs me $30 to fill, even with more expensive gas (87 octane though).

    • @Weather_Nerd
      @Weather_Nerd 11 месяцев назад

      Most turbo performance cars need 91+ octane, just the price you pay. Even my NA S2000 needed 91, so expensive now glad my daily runs 87

    You’re absolutely right about the rarity of the Mazdaspeed 3. I still have mine since the day I bought it brand new 16 years ago, and it still runs great. The only mods I made on mine was exterior, as well as a slight upgrade to the suspension. Otherwise, engine is still stock, and running great, and reliable. In my 60s now and its my weekend only cruiser now, and still puts a smile on my face whenever I like to “ Rip it “ a little 😎👍 I’m gonna keep this baby for another 16 years. Bought a 2007 GT in True Red when new and loved the car, the lumpy turbo and torque steer gave it personality. I wrongly traded it in on a 2011 BMW 335i, and still kick myself for ever getting rid of it. The 2.3 disi is not the greatest design, reliability wise, but so much fun.

    • @SkylineFTW97
      @SkylineFTW97 Год назад

      It had that raw feeling that the modern equivalents just don't have. I got used to the torque steer quickly and the delayed, but stronger onset of boost is my personal preference for turbos.
      My old 09 was a black base model that I bought as the 2nd owner in 2017 and I had it for about 4 years. I sold it right before gas prices spiked (that was coincidental), but it also developed the timing chain rattle and it had this persistent clutch hydraulics issue that I could never figure out. When I bought it, it had a super stiff clutch. After about a year, the pedal started randomly losing pressure. I'd bleed it and it would come back. I took it to a shop and they replaced the slave cylinder. It was fine for another year, then it happened again, but only after someone else drove it. During 2020, I took on a 2nd job at night with a decently long commute. I drove the Speed3 there most of the time (I got off at around midnight, which meant I could do all the highway pulls I wanted in peace), and despite some very hard pulls with lots of banging into gear, it never came back when I drove it. But it came back when I sold it. I can only guess that my more aggressive shifting kept the pedal pressure up and when someone new drove it, they were being more cautious, which it didn't like.

    I feel like newer Mazdas, 2015 and newer, especially the 3, 6, CX5 are a lot nicer than older ones, I feel the same about Hyundai’s and Kia’s, 2010ish and newer are better I think over all then older ones. Mazda doesn’t have a luxury division so I like how beer ones look very luxurious. And Hyundai and Kia have such radical styling. I think Honda and Toyota are starting to do the same. My 2015 Toyota Camry is a 7th, 2015 is when the refreshed it, the exterior is completely different than 2012-14 Camrys but the interior is juts tweaked slightly, it was only juts a facelift. But I think Toyota is playing it safe with their styling, it would be interesting to see them take more ricks. Again newer Mazdas have nice luxurious looking styling, I think Toyota has Lexus for that. But it would be cool for them to do what Hyundai and Kia do with their new cars.

    I'm trying to convince myself to buy a manual but tbh it dosnt seem worth it the hassle. I just think when I drive my current car I couldn't do this or this or that while driving a manual. And who knows if I would actually enjoy it long term. Decades ago all the people who knew how to drive manual found the expirence horrible and thats why 95% if cars are automatics now. Had to start somewhere.
    And I could be spending a lot of money on something I don't enjoy.
    Decisions....

    I wish I was good at driving a manual transmission car. But I wouldn’t daily drive a manual, I’d rather have a more sporty with a manual to drive on occasion, like a weekend toy. I’d rather daily drive a automatic.
