as a native chinese,I can tell you we don't much care about your tones saying good or non as well as we also can understand what you say even without tones basically. I mean language as a tool for conversation, you just need to speak out and let your conversation object understand what you think, that's enough. It is important that you speak chinese fearlessly, then you get advanced.
This really gave me a lot of hope, thank you ❤
你英文真好
The same to any other languages
老實說,如果沒有上下文意判斷的情況下,聲調發音不標準的確會讓母語者聽不懂......聲調還是非常重要。以注音輸入法當作例子的話,你沒有輸入聲調,再怎麼打其他符號都無法形成單獨的字。
Es lo que siempre me pregunté, porque en el 2020 usaba Douyin y sin saber absolutamente nada de mandarín, ingresaba a los en vivos de los usuarios chinos y para comunicarme usaba Google para tratar de hablar, y aún así podían entenderme

Honestly... I Love watching Chinese dramas. I watch them every single day with subtitles of course. I'm 57 yrs old and have fallen in love with the Mandarin language, I think it's beautiful. I was told by my 11yr old granddaughter that I should just learn the language so I could do other things while listening to the shows instead of staring at the television to read subtitles. I think it will be fun to learn. Thank you for your help. 😊
Omgg give me recommendationsss pleasee
That’s my biggest motivation right now 🥰 right now I’m really enjoying “hidden love” and “royal rumors”
This is me… obsessed with drama’s and have finally started learning
I think that pinyin not only helps foreign learners to learn the pronunciation, but it also helps Chinese native speakers to type the hanzi using the keyboard whether on a smartphone or a computer.
Yes, you are right.
Consideration of the combination between the Chinese charactors and IME,that's why its inventor is greatly appreciated by all Chinese people and language lerners😃

As an International Chinese teacher myself, I really am impressed of how you've put all these together! There are so many tips you mentioned that I highly agree and have been advised my students to do so. I have my students and my friends who are learning Mandarin or Chinese culture watch the animes, TV series and TV shows you list already haha. Guess we share the same preference. Good insights for me too, as I could get some ideas for helping my students and structuring my lessons better.

Thanks ❤❤❤
Who else thinks they wish this video existed when they first learned Chinese?
I've been studying Chinese for quite some time but completely neglected the writing practice part. I hope it's not too late to start practicing writing Hanzi. Thank you so much for compiling all these resources. I definitely will come back to this video again in the future.
Just curious, why do you want to learn how to write?
Much easier than a native learning to write Chinese characters with the non-dominant hand
Don’t worry. Chinese children they also learn how to speak first, then learn how to write and read.
I actually am learning off of 2 apps. One app helps me learn the pin yin and hanzi. The other app helps me speak what I've learned and pronunciate the language.
I have chinese speakers that correct me on a daily basis.
In 2 months, i have been conversational to order food, ask where i can find an item, ask how their day is going.
And, no, its not through xiaomanyc
Can you tell the app name cause I'm searching for good apps
I agree that MOTIVATION, CONSISTENCY & DISCIPLINE can make the difference between an easy and a difficult learning experience.
In brief:
The video is a comprehensive guide on how to learn Mandarin Chinese effectively, focusing on various resources and strategies that can be used at different levels of proficiency.
Here's a summary:
1. **Beginner Level (HSK1-2):** The video suggests starting with the HSK1-2 vocabulary list and using apps like Anki for flashcards. It also recommends using Du Chinese and The Chairman's Bao for reading practice, and HelloChinese for grammar and speaking practice.
2. **Intermediate Level (HSK3-4):** At this level, the video suggests using ChinesePod and MandarinBean for listening practice. These platforms offer podcasts discussing interesting topics about everyday life in China. For grammar, the video recommends focusing more on sentence structure and grammar rules.
3. **Upper Intermediate Level (HSK5):** The video recommends watching Chinese TV series and advanced news, as well as listening to advanced podcasts. It suggests shows like "Growing Pains" and "Friends" in Chinese, and a series called "Nothing But Thirty" for insights into Chinese society and youth life. It also recommends continuing to practice writing and vocabulary building.
4. **Advanced Level (HSK6):** At this level, immersion is key. The video suggests exploring Chinese content consumed by native speakers. It recommends a documentary about Chinese food called "A Bite of China", a debate show called "Qipashuo", and a talk show called "Tuōkǒuxiù Dàhuì". It also suggests using World Wide Radio to listen to various Chinese radio stations.
The video emphasizes that learning Mandarin can be challenging, but with passion, discipline, and consistency, one can achieve remarkable results. It also provides a link to a Discord group where learners can access a PDF of the study plan and a full list of resources.

THANK YOU for these brilliant and clear suggestions! 🙏 It will certainly help many people who are interested in learning Mandarin but are still hesitant to take the first step. 👍👍
I've started learning Chinese ten years ago and I'm so happy that you mentioned the same sources I used at that time. 爱情公寓 was the first series I watched without English subtitles and 奇葩说 really improved my listening since they really talk fast. They also use a lot of advanced grammar and chengyu.

Hi how are you
@@hadiseh5267 what s going on ,bro
Wow this is such a comprehensive guideline for beginner Mandarin learners! Great job, Zoe!
Just one thing that I really wanna point out - learning Mandarin tones and pronunciation by the romanized system Pinyin is definitely a longer process than the first one or two weeks. Actually there are quite a lot of challenging sounds that may take a while for learners to get the hang of, let alone the fact of Chinese being a tonal language. Forming good habits and training their ears and mouth muscles for Mandarin is crucial for anyone who has a long-term learning goal.
Looking forward to seeing more videos on your channel👏
I was just thinking that Fan laoshi considers tone a must and I think that having a solid foundation on tones is a key for talking and hearing which are basics. I really rely on Fan laoshi tips and Zoe's technic and recommendations.
@@ashleysauceda7183 ❤️❤️ Glad you find something helpful from our videos👏👏 Good luck with your studies!
Actually learning tones and pronunciation is something that keeps developing with time but it's a good start to focus solely on it without distractions
@@zooropa414 Agreed!! Getting the hang of tones and sounds definitely lays the most valuable foundation for the future learning and saves so much learning time!
Once a time, I actually watched a Thai video on Thai got talent show (with subtitles ofc) At first I found their words sounded so strange, but after shadowing them just for fun, I found that this tonal language is very interesting and tones are not as hard as what people have stated. I mean I haven't even learned their formal way of how many tones or markings they have. This kind of shows a pair of ear is pretty necessary to get used to the sounds.
I was searching for tips to learn mandarin, and guess what? My favorite girl maked a video about that!
I'm so glad! Thanks zoe❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much for this video!! I had no clue what order i should go in and i’ve just been studying aimlessly. This is so helpful.
Thank you Zoe. Lots of excellent and practical advice about learning Chinese. One of the best reviews of resources I have seen on You Tube.
Thank you for being the best teacher a student could ever hope for.
World Wide Radio has been a must in my journey, I have used it for more than a year it helps my ears get trained to chinese tones and also helps me be a little I touch with daily topics, sometimes I can understand full sentences and it feels so good to be able to understand mandarín.
Thank you so much for this! I want to learn Chinese but I was so overwhelmed by the amount of resources and didn't know where to start, this video came at the right time!
I loved your video, thank you for having such a guide for us begginers to learn chinese! I've been looking for this kind of videos for so long, but this is the best one so far. Now I know how to start now 😃
Thank you Zoe, for this excellent video. I found your channel after watching your equivalent videos helping Chinese native speakers with language learning (and subsequently finding your bilibili channel with other great content!). Videos from your Chinese channel is actually study material for me! As a Chinese language learner, I have spent around four years of daily study (working up to several hours each day) using the techniques very similar to what you describe in your one of your Chinese language video.
As a non native speaker, one clarification I feel is important to share with other learners is that at the existing HSK6 level, despite its designation as advanced, it is really far, far away from fluency. In the new HSK system, this level is classified as upper intermediate, which I agree with. The total vocabulary of 5000 words is just far too small to understand a wide range of topics. I have studied over 13000 words and idioms and can honestly say that I frequently still encounter words I have never seen (although in many situations, I can guess) and can say confidently some of the shows you recommend are likely to be a challenge for even people that can pass HSK6 easily. I have tried watching the comedy show you recommend, and can say that still confounds me, and have put it off because it is simply too difficult.
I find many Chinese language learners grossly underestimate the amount of work needed to achieve fluency. I am by no means trying to discourage people, but just set realistic expectations. The existing HSK system really gives learners a false impression of what is really needed to be considered advanced, let alone fluent. This is why I agree the most important part to achieving success is consistency and cultivating a strong learning habit that keeps you motivated.
Thank you for your videos, and keep up the great work!
Have been waiting for this one Zo, thank you 💎
Hope you enjoyed it!
Thank you, Zoe, for your incredible study plans and resources to learn China. I found your channel just tonight and I'm glad to take notes from your video. Zoe, I have no words to describe how great this video is!!!! I've been learning Mandarin for a while, I'm really close to HSK4 in terms of vocabulary and grammar, but I'm lacking in terms of writing and speaking. I'm always afraid of messing up the tones. Thank you so much for this video. Last year, after getting my English certification, I decided it would be fun to learn Chinese. However, unlike my English journey, I didn't have anyone to communicate with while learning Chinese, but I always had fun memorizing vocabulary and learning where each character came from. Two weeks ago, when I was traveling in Slovenia, a Chinese man approached me and asked for directions. I was surprised by the fact that I was able to hold a small conversation with him, and that motivated me to start learning more seriously. It's my first time self-learning a language, so I'm really glad I got to see such a marvelous guide at the "beginning" (let's say I'm starting from scratch) of my journey
Congratulations on such a realisation.

Such a great video! Thank you so much! 💗
I can thank You Tube's algorithm for leading me to the right place, judging by the number of views this video has received in just a few days. The main problem with any language learning these days is not the lack of resources, but simply information overload. Everyone has their own resources, their own plans, their own teaching ideas. "Explain this to me like I am an 8 year old" is exactly right. I need structure to try to learn Mandarin. I'm an algorithmic thinker. I prefer step-by-step instructions. It's hard to digest all of the information when there are just so many different teaching ideas out there. Also, it's easy to say "just do what works for you" except that I don't know what will work for me. I've never done this before. A comprehensive, structured plan is what I need else I'll just wander around aimlessly trying different things with no idea if they will be helpful or not.

I just wanted to tell, that I wish I discovered your channel sooner. I've been studying chinese for 5 years now and I've been stuck at hsk4 level, I won't even start in my speaking and listening level because it's a nightmare. After all these years I'm able to read and understand long texts but I haven't improved much with my speaking, I feel like it's still A1 level. I even went to china for one semester to study Chinese and again my teachers focused mainly on reading, we barely did any speaking exercises.
Your videos changed my mindset and I stated with doing daily routine on shadowing exercises etc. So yeah... My journey with chinese is long and I felt like giving up, because I couldn't communicate with other people in this language, no matter how hard I studied.
This video came at a great time....I'm planning to start studying Chinese this months and didn't know where to start...thank you so much Zoe for making this video and helping us with our Chinese learning journey....keep it up zoe ❤
Best of luck!
I wish you all the best ❤❤❤

My mother tongue is Chinese and I want to find a long-term English learning partner
