Just wanted to let you know that I have also done the same thing with the external views which is cool. MSFS 2020 allows multiple bindings to any given button or control which FSX & Prepar3D didn't allow, so when you enter the new hat switch settings for external views, MSFS will tell you that there is already a function allocated and will show you what it is being the same interior view option as the exterior option you're adding. Just validate and continue - it works perfectly. (Don't forget to delete the old external hat switch allocations). I have done something similar with my Saitek/Logitech throttles. I have the quadrant that came with the yoke plus an extra quadrant. I have set it up for twin engine operation (2 x throttle, 2 x prop pitch & 2 x mixture). On the rare occasion I fly 4 engine aircraft, I have mapped engines 1 & 3 to throttle 1 and 2 & 4 to throttle 2 and so forth.
You have no idea how valuable this video has been to me. I've had MS FS2020 since it came out and had tried all ways possible to make the hat switch pan the camera as you so well instruct here, tonight, for the first time I'm able to do just that. THANKS so much!
After a recent world update my hat switch settings disappeared and this video help to rectify that problem. Thank you for being an asset and blessing to the community.
I’m thrilled to find your channel. By far, you explain everything the best on MSFS, and Thrustmaster Hotas One. Shame I’m not in the UK (love your country by the way, visited 6 times. I’m from Philadelphia) if only you could set up my system. Thank you for everything. Regards Jim
Great thank you for this tip, just what I needed!! Was frustrated I couldn't get it done myself. 3 days with this sim (V1.32.7.0) and am loving it, and now with the hat switch issue resolved, loving the views even more! New sub here! 👍 👍
Thank you, once again, for yet another very helpful video, Huddison! My mistake was that I was successfully setting the 45 degree Hat positions as well as the L, R, U, & D positions. That was causing a problem. You see, you CAN set the 45 degree positions for your Hat switch but you must be very careful and precise as you move the Hat switch to the 45-L, R, U, or D, positions. This can take a lot of patients and numerous attempts. I was able to do it but then, I found the commands impractical when flying. One is not likely to be so precise or careful about moving the Hat switch to those exact points as they're flying and busy with other tasks. So, I missed that exact Hat placement and as a result, I wound up tripping the Hat-Left (or Right, Up, or Down, as the case may be), along with the 45 degree-Left. This causes a mess in the views and it even happens when RELEASING the Hat switch from a selected 45 degree position, (if you were lucky enough to get it there). As the Hat switch is moving back to center, you can trip yet another Hat-Left or 45-Left command. I see that you posted this quite some time ago. I only wish I would've found it sooner! LOL Thanks again, Rich
Absolute hero started my first flight and found is so frustrating with the camera not how it was on fsx and X plane and couldn't figure out how to set it up thankyou very much
You can assign to look in those "cross" directions by manualy selecting the input from scroll down menu saying by default "Select an input", not by scanning the pushed button on your yoke/joystick.
@Huddison For Down_Right/Left and Up_Right/Left, instead of scanning input by pressing keys, try selecting the input from the drop down below (labelled: Select an input)
I managed to get the combined directions on my logitec 3d Pro. You have to do one action at a time. For example to input up right: push the hat switch up and hold, then while pushing up then push to the right. The input will change from 'up' to 'up right' when you push right. Then really quickly just let go and it will hold
Great video. My angled left and right stuck the second time I put the input in. I didn't click on anything, just repeated the input and it worked each time. I am using the same yoke.

Any suggestions will be appreciated. I have more than enough buttons to do that. I want to eliminate the keyboard while flying.

Thank you so much for this video! It's made things so much better in FlightSim. Is there a way to set the hat for the External or Drone Camera, where you can freely look around the outside of the plane, but the view always stays centered on the aircraft...like I always used to be able to do with older versions of FlightSim?
Hi Huddison...just wanted to check in and see if you've had any luck finding a solution to using the hat for the drone camera (or the regular exterior camera for that matter). Thanks!
Thx for this, so I use zoom/move head and then look around with the hat switch. But when I recenter, it does but it removes the zoom/head position change and resets that too. How do I re-center without losing the zoom/move head position after looking around?
@@Huddison ya. If I use that function, it resets the view, but it also resets any zoom or head position change. I want to find a way to reset the view without undoing the zoom or head position.
The way to get Look Down Right or Up Left kind of action bound, is to have an 8 way HAT switch, rather than a 4 way HAT like most controllers have. For example, the Saitek/Logitech X52/5/6 have 8 way HATs.
But even with the 8 way, can it be entered by pressing down-right, or will it register either down or right, but not down-right? I think that's what was happening in the video.
Hello I am a new subscriber and I have a question and no answer. I am using the Logitech 3Pro for MSFS2020 and not able to fly it the aircraft moves erratic on ground and I can not take off. I have try all kind of suggestions to make it work on the sensitivity settings and remain the same. I you can help me I will be very much appreciate. Thank you. Carlos.
That sounds like possible settings that you'll have to turn off in 'assistance Options/Piloting'; they were all reset after a fairly recent Sim Update.
I installed MSFS 2020 17,3,0 on Friday June 19th and the hat button on my yoke works perfectly well in X-Plane 11.53, but it's a bit inconsistent with the up position because it won't allow me to view the upper panels on most aircraft, including commercial airliners, I'll have to look at the settings on that button again. Thanks.
@@Huddison Thank you Mr. Huddison, I'll check out your other videos, I would also like to apologize for not being clear enough in my last message, I was having the problems with the Hat switch in MSFS 2020, not X-Plane 11. I looked at MSFS 2020's control yoke configurations and I had no success in setting the "Up" position on the hat switch, but I had success setting up the "Up" button on the right side of the control yoke to "Look Up" and get a complete view of the upper panels, I was also able to set up the upper/right and lower/right positions without any problems on the hat switch. It works perfectly well in X-Plane 11 but not in MSFS 2020 so I might have to live with that until Asobo provides a fix. :)
What I'm still unsure how to set up correctly is once you switch to external view instead of cockpit, i want to use my hat switch to pan the camera around the aircraft , up down, all around .....
I can't look around inside the plane the camera doesn't move around please I need help tell me what to do I think the problem is on the camera settings but I try everything it doesn't work..
Ensure that you are setting the correct view settings under Camera & then Cockpit Camera (as shown in this video) and also ensure you have Filter (setting on the left) set to 'ALL'. Re-watch the video and try and follow step-by-step.
Hi ! I just set it up your way but as soon as I release the pov buttons it centers automatically and do not stay in position, any solution ? Thanks a lot!
@@Huddison I know I could turn my head in VR and look at anything I want, but the main reason I wanted is to be able to turn all the way around with the hat switch without turning my head and walk into the cabin and make some customCamera views. Any suggestions?

Where there is a will, there is a way. Maybe they didn't make so intuitive because they knew pro's like you will figure it out.
Very likely😉. I think they also wanted to showcase their new viewing system
THANKS VERY MUCH
Thank you so much for this video! It's made things so much better in FlightSim. Is there a way to set the hat for the External or Drone Camera, where you can freely look around the outside of the plane, but the view always stays centered on the aircraft...like I always used to be able to do with older versions of FlightSim?
Not sure about that, reinstalling FS2020 atm, so will look into it when I can
@@Huddison Thank you!
@@davidreisman412 struggling to find an option in FS2020 for your reqested views option
Huddison Thanks, I appreciate you trying!
Is that the reset cockpit view function you're referring to?
@@Huddison ya. If I use that function, it resets the view, but it also resets any zoom or head position change. I want to find a way to reset the view without undoing the zoom or head position.
How can I switch from Cockpit view to the Instrument view with one button?
Set one of your buttons as one of the custon views found in options, controls & views
Thank you very much for your help!
Magnífico 👏 👏
Thank you 😊
The way to get Look Down Right or Up Left kind of action bound, is to have an 8 way HAT switch, rather than a 4 way HAT like most controllers have. For example, the Saitek/Logitech X52/5/6 have 8 way HATs.
Great tip - thanks!
But even with the 8 way, can it be entered by pressing down-right, or will it register either down or right, but not down-right? I think that's what was happening in the video.
@@skyhawk_4526 It CAN be done as I have done it with my 8 way. It took patience...I had to try it several times to hit the sweet spot on the hat.
Thank you very much
You are welcome
How did you set your quickview to toggle? Mine is not toggled by default (i have to hold the button and ulon relesethe camera switches back, resets)
Check under General options/Camera
@@Huddison thanks!
Thanks.
Assign the up as a custom view - check my other videos ;)
@@MagnumMike44 Understood and it's good to hear to you found some kind of working solution for it, for now :)
Anyone know how to make a X 52 saitek to work like FSX. My hat switch is close with this but the up and down dont work like the left and right do.
Great info, thanks
You're welcome.
What I'm still unsure how to set up correctly is once you switch to external view instead of cockpit, i want to use my hat switch to pan the camera around the aircraft , up down, all around .....
ruclips.net/video/jToegWQthBc/видео.html
I can't look around inside the plane the camera doesn't move around please I need help tell me what to do I think the problem is on the camera settings but I try everything it doesn't work..
Ensure that you are setting the correct view settings under Camera & then Cockpit Camera (as shown in this video) and also ensure you have Filter (setting on the left) set to 'ALL'.
Re-watch the video and try and follow step-by-step.
@@Huddison the freelook and fixed look that's where the problem is

No worries
Hi ! I just set it up your way but as soon as I release the pov buttons it centers automatically and do not stay in position, any solution ? Thanks a lot!
You have your views options set to 'Hold' instead of 'Toggle'. Check under General Options/Camera.

Can’t get this to work in vr but does work in pc mode
You won't need it in VR mode ;)
@@Huddison I know I could turn my head in VR and look at anything I want, but the main reason I wanted is to be able to turn all the way around with the hat switch without turning my head and walk into the cabin and make some customCamera views. Any suggestions?
