Buckingham is one of the most under rated players on the planet.
I think only to those who do not know what a great guitarist is. Buck Dharma is also in that group of "underrated"

I don't really think he's under-rated. He's been on the covers of guitar magazines for decades.
Good to see people still commenting on this video. I agree he is in no way underrated as a player, singer and writer. Underrated by who?
He may not be quite as famous as Page, Hendrix, EDDIE, or Gilmoure, but anyone who knows anything about rock and guitar history include Buckingham on their list of innovative and influencntial players.
Plus he is very well spoken and humble.
But wow....I see I made comments on this 6 years ago.....how the heck did they let that guitar pass??? Filming for a major guitar mag to be distributed to how many 1000s, and the guitar is painful to listen to.

I have always loved his finger picking style. He down plays his genius which shows you how genuine this man is. God Bless you Mr. Buckingham! Loving your music since the 1970’s.

Saw F M live in Birmingham, he started the show saying "we are here with no new album to plug, we just wanna play live and hope you enjoy it as much as we do".
The gig was superb, but Lindsey's playing was bordering virtuoso.
Possibly the most underrated guitar player ever, people love "flashy" guitarists eg Eddie VH, Steve Vai, Joe Sat etc, great players but can be hard work to listen to. But watching this guy play is an absolute effortless pleasure.
One of the most underrated guitarists of our time. Not fancy, but his riffs are iconic and poweful. I personally salute you Mr. Buckingham.

Not amazing. Reading music is nothing but a limit. Imagine not being able to speak unless someone typed it all out for you first. The best musicians couldn't read a note of music.
This man takes time out of his life to give a free lesson, something that is rare and unique in this day and time, and people complain, I'm just speechless.

A New Horizon everyone knows fm are mick, John, Lyndsey Stevie and Christine and has been for 40 plus years.other early lineups were very temporary and musically totally different

@@chiefbrody3406 I understand what you are saying, and yeah, from about 1971 until 1974 before Lyndsey and Stevie joined are not exactly the greatest years, but there happen to be a lot of fans of that first lineup. The influence that the Peter Green years has had on aspiring guitarists and bands for the last 50+ years is worthy of any Hall Of Fame induction alone. Watch the Peter Green "Man of the World" documentary and you will appreciate that version of FM a heck of a lot more. Long live the Green God!
The Mick/John/Christine/Lindsay/Stevie lineup is by far my favorite, but I think you could make the "Fleetwood Mac isn't Fleetwood Mac without" comment since the very first lineup change. They've gone through so many lineup changes that it's hard to say what is and what isn't definitively Fleetwood Mac now. What bothers me about the current lineup is that they're playing a Crowded House song and a Tom Petty song. They're both great songs, but that's weird to me. I know they played Stand Back and Don't Let Me Down Again as Fleetwood Mac in the past, but those don't bother me too much because I love those songs and they were written by people IN the band. Wait. I'm being a hypocrite. Stevie and Lindsay wrote Don;t Let Me Down Again before they joined the band, so... Ok. I'm done blabbering. :)
I have always loved and appreciated his playing . He's so underated. He's truly a master of his instrument. I love him and Fleetwood Mac .

I was a young buck at a record shop back when the album "Buckingham/Nicks came out. Looking at the cover I said " wow, Lindsey is a cutie pie". The clerk said "my man, you do know that Lindsey is the dude don't you?"
Let's just say we had a good laugh. You learn something new everyday I guess. And hey, I went on to see them at Day on the Green with Gary Wright and Peter Frampton in 1976. Wow, that Stevie was a cutie.

For anyone who has never heard it, the album "Buckingham Nicks" (available as an import only now) is fabulous and foreshadows Buckingham's great work later with Fleetwood Mac. Some of the tastiest electric guitar solos ever written (e.g. Go Your Own Way) and deliciously delicate acoustic work (Never Going Back Again), as well as just crazyass go-nuts guitarslinger stuff (Eyes of the World).
Just saw him perform in Franklin, TN. Was front row/center and only a few feet from him. He is absolutely amazing. I'll treasure the memory forever.

I loved watching him and Paul Simon on SNL years ago. Not a shred of competition or vindictiveness between them as soon as LB started jamming during a sketch, PS just can't contain himself, like an excited puppy or gofer, is just amazed and overjoyed that someone is playing the guitar. Its hilarious and wonderful.

I remember that when I bought 'Buckingham - Nicks' album before they joined Fleetwood Mac I thought that Lindsey was the girl and Stevie was the boy. GREAT 'Raw' album and you can definitely hear the style that they brought to Fleetwood Mac in it.
Exactly this! The song, Don’t let me down again, is a perfect example. It could easily pass as a Fleetwood Mac song.

Same. I'd got burnt out on traditional picking guitar and needed a new inspiration. So I learnt how to Travis pick and used this man's songs to motivate me as I love Fleetwood Mac. 2 years later I can bust out Big Love, Never Going Back, Landslide, and Rhiannon. Currently learning Chet Atkins' version of The Entertainer which is a challenge for sure but so much fun, I've never been this passionate about playing.

I finally saw Fleetwood Mac live a few years ago and realized the extent to which Lindsey Buckingham's unique fingerpicking style was the driving force for nearly every Fleetwood Mac song.

Such a humble man. My 1st husband had explained to me that Lindsey Buckingham was the backbone to Fleetwood Mac. What an incredibly talented man and group. I wish he and Stevie could have worked through it all. ❤ She didn't understand him.

Not very nice from what I've heard which from various all say he is a big jerk who was very physically abusive to Stevie and his ex girlfriend after Stevie. Drug usages also came into play as well w/ all that and the shouting that he did.

@@Paul-fb1em They were both on drugs. And the abusive went both ways. Stevie wasn't a saint in the situation either. I'm not excusing what he did, but that was then, he's different now.
The third iteration of "The Mac" took a while for me to accept. Listening to Lindsey Buckingham's guitar playing and C. McVie's, Nick's and Buckingham's songs won me over, after not too long.

Lindsey is a top inspiration to my guitar/songwriting abilities, always has been (since the 70's!) Have seen him play live twice, and would always go to a show if he comes to the Portland, Oregon area again! I'm playing in an original band now, and most of the covers we are selecting for live shows are Fleetwood Mac songs so it's alot of fun for me! I agree, give credit where credit is due.

Tuning: Try tuning to 432 Hz, and down 1/2 step in standard tuning. I tried this and got a match. The 432 hz tuning I find really warm, harmonious, beautiful for both singing as well as guitar. This is one of my favorite songs by the amazingly creative and talented Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks since I was a kid. GREAT song!
Ahh, this is known as Verdi's 'A', (instead of the standard A at 440 HZ) which is an alternative tuning that is mathematically consistent with the universe. Music based on 432 Hz transmits beneficial healing ...

The way he explains his playing techniques corresponds perfectly to the way he played with his band: not as a showpiece, but as a suitable part in a perfect song.
Gotta give Stevie some serious props for her melody line over those beautiful arpeggios. Pure harmonious magic.
Disagree Stevie has never been a strong singer. She is a great entertainer. Christine McVie and Lindsey were the ones who made the harmonies and melodies sound great. Stevie is just a glorified background singer.
He’s being very modest in this video. Especially with the song “landslide” One of the most beautiful acoustic songs ever written. it is not a simple. It took me close to a year to learn it, but I included the lead as well.
This guy is in his own league. Incredible musician, singer, songwriter.

Actually I wasn't thinking about his b string being out of tune when I watched this. I was only thinking what an incredible privilege it is to have Lyndsay Buckingham giving us a guitar lesson. For free. I would have killed for stuff like this when I was 16. People's sense of entitlement these days is sometimes breath-taking.

As a bit of an aside, for some reason this brings to mind when Neil Young was on Howard Stern this year and someone handed him an out of tune guitar. He said he didn't know how to tune it, that he had world class guitar techs maintaining all of his gear for him and didn't have to know how to tune anymore.
I am still baffled by that. I have to assume he just didn't feel like playing, because I can't imagine forgetting how to tune a guitar. I can imagine never having learned how to tune a guitar, if I had started playing since the advent of the now prevalent digital tuners, but that's not the case for myself and certainly not Mr. Young.
And yes when I think back to what I used to go through to try to learn different songs, etc. it's almost upsetting. It's amazing and awesome that we can now just look up anything about anything.

What a great sounding guitar that is. One Shure SM 58 the only thing picking up the
sound, no onboard electronics, just the guitar, the player, and the feel. Marvelous.
He is a great player, whether or not his 2nd string is a touch out of tune or not! Come
on, people. Picky, picky, picky. He could play most of us under the table and you all
know it.
It inspires me that someone who I consider to be one of the greatest artists of my lifetime does not read music. There is structure in music theory, which gives us a place to start, but when we get past that, to a higher creative level, that structure can become a cage and a means to over-analyze/criticize the beauty of the music. I love this man... free, humble and genuine. Thanks for sharing.

It's cool to know that Lindsey never took lessons and never learned to read music and I'm in good company... I'm not saying I'm even close to his talent but learned to play guitar on my own and can't read music as well...
i first saw stivie in a concert in chicago and i really loved it so i followed her all the way to wisconsin to see her next concert it was an unforgettable experience for me of course that was 30 years ago she is still an incredible singer

I coukd listen to that "picking" all day long. My grandfather was a gifted musician. He was well known as the "fiddler" and at one point was even offered a position in the band of Patsy Cline, but he was also a well known beer drinker so he missed out on the opportunity. He could also play a banjo, and because of this, he also played caustic guitar. His "specialty" happened to be "picking" when playing caustic. "Landslide" and 'never going back again" are two songs that i will ALWAYS dedicate to his memory.
Who cares about a slightly out of tune string? We're here listening to HIM and no one is listening to US. Lindsay is legend.
Slightly out of tune? HE is very great in your mind no doubt, but my God--that fiddle is way out of tune.
I want to see you play what he just played on a guitar in tune...go ahead try it.. i am thinking his out of tune guitar will sound better...lol

If people spend less time obsessively analyzing his tuning and more time learning to become half as great as a musician as Lindsey then maybe you'll have a better shot at becoming a legend as him someday. But I guess you rather be known as the best walking human tuner.
