Eh, I think we're way over that, I mean, yeah, it's a nice idea, "he turns his life around and leaves his abussive tendencies behind", but you can't un-abuse a person, and this person does not need to remain to give you a second chance, the christian idea of redemption isn't realistic, as it requires someone to make their change explicit, as if one changing without it ever being known wasn't as valid as making such change known, Joker could change, become loving and kind, but Harley doesn't need to be there all the way to validate him, she doesn't owe Joker her forgiveness, she can go her whole life hating Joker, or at least the Joker he used to be, for what he did to her, and it wouldn't invalidate his turn-around at all. forgiveness shouldn't be a cleaning of the slate, the erasure of history and forgeting the missdeeds, but the creation of a new one, resentment and compassion can co-exist, indeed, I believe they're stronger this way.

    • @jackmichael2442
      @jackmichael2442 Год назад +55

@@vicenteisaaclopezvaldez2450 >the Christian idea of redemption isn't realistic
How so? It is the most ideal concept of redemption when it comes to morality because it takes care of both the wrong done and any residue of it in any form including memory. Of course, people don't need to give you a second chance, and if you want to go by Christian ideals then you should believe that it is God that ultimately provides forgiveness, whether others are willing to forgive you or not. However, it is still a great moral achievement to receive validation through direct forgiveness from the people you've wronged, especially if they are close to you.
You can't say that "the Christian idea of redemption is unrealistic" because it happens more often and commonly than you think in real life. It's just less appealing or satisfying because most people want a murderer/rapist/thief/arsonist/criminal to live with a certain amount of guilt for the rest of their life, but they can't be reminded of that guilt if they're completely forgiven. But logical morality doesn't care about your feelings because what's right is necessary, not satisfying.

The idea of Batman making the rich richer comes from the part where it was Bruce Wayne who payed for the reconstruction and got a tax write-off. In this case it is actually a good thing because it keeps tax low for the inhabitants of the city AND Bruce Wayne doesn't actually get richer through this.
When a 'tax write-off' makes a person richer it usually involves paying like $10k to an artist to make a painting and then have it valued at $1M+. They would then donate it to a public organisation in order to get a tax write-off of equivalent value. So they would make $990k more than if they hadn't done so.
Bruce Wayne also runs multiple non-profit hospitals, schools etc and does a lot of charitable work and is really respected in Gotham.

The real issue in Gotham is of course the poor infrastructure, but watching Bruce Wayne become a politician to make actual change wouldn't be as fun, I suppose.

My only complaint is how the series has incredibly inconsistent characters.
It painted batman as evil. Even if they've shown him care for Alfred according to Nightwing batman never came to him when he was at his worst or when he tried to run away, Alfred did. Which completely contradicts batman's entire character because the whole point was that he adopted Grayson to help him heal, batman is not a psychopath he understands human emotion perfectly but for some reason in the comic series he acted like no one has any emotion. And his actions were dumber than Tony's confession about being iron man, Bruce would be HAPPY that Gotham is safe, that joker is cured, he would be treating him like he treated dent in the white knight but here he has a single compassionate moment and that's it, then there's James Gordon who is a corrupt cop, even though he's supposed to be batman's partner BECAUSE he's not corrupt.
    And more importantly:
Batman locked up penguin, black mask, Deathstroke, bane all of these are Rich people batman in year 1 literally becomes a Boogeyman for the rich people and in this comic it's like he's a completely different person. Don't even get me on Nightwing becoming Jason Todd.
The highlight of the comic is joker, and Harley who are maybe the only consistent and well written characters EXCEPT when jack Napier defeated batman in a fist fight, that scene couldn't be dumber.

It didn't paint him as evil, at the start he was furious and full of hatred towards Joker, this is amplified by Batman believing Joker killed Bruce's first son. He'd reached a breaking point at the start of the comic and just started whailing on Joker without mercy, Bruce was so against him being mayor *because* of who he was, he couldn't help but feel like it was nothing more than another trick and was angry that everyone still supported him despite it. Also because Jack was out to take down Batman and accused of a lot of shit, and Gordon isn't a corrupt cop... don't really know where you got that part from

Their mind isn’t capable of proceeding that there’s a person who unlike them has no bad or selfish intentions. that’s why they are hero’s and it’s mostly not a problem until they are also humans. Then people will start to admire them, then compare to them, then fail and get frustrated over time and finally reject them.

In reality, Batman did a lot of good and the only reason it's not effective is because... well... his story needs to go on.
As Bruce Wayne, he pumps so much money that reasons for crime should go down drastically.
And he took down most organizations so crime should be less.

In my headcanon, Batmanning is the smallest part of what Batman actually does. Most of his work is through the Wayne Foundation working with communities, convicts and their families to break the cycle of criminality, and Wayne Enterprises running a program to hire ex-convicts and opening facilities in impoverished areas. The reason Batman doesn't kill is because after he stops a crime, the real work of rehabilitation and opportunity begins.
