If you think about it Mike loves his brothers to much as he “holds back” so they can use their talents. Leo is the wise leader, Ralph the strength, and Donny the brains so Mike became the heart. @@24k0pticshe doesn’t die there, in the end you hear splinter say focus and it’s fades, he does end up seeing his brothers but throughout the last ronin series it shows that Mikey starts to hallucinate and hear the voices and sometimes see his dead brothers.

I remember once hearing about the reason for all the turtles weapons; Ralph had the sais, a defensive weapon to show that he couldn’t always brute force his problems (something like that), Donnie had his Bo staff to show that he couldn’t always rely on technology (something like that lol), Leo had the swords to help him accept that one day he would have to take a life, and Mikey had the nunchucks because he was the most skilled and nunchucks required the most focus to master

In the 03 series there is a episode that they watch the memories of utrom in feudal Japan. Mikey goes to a training samurai and says " it is me Michelangelo the last ronin " and precedes to act like he was fighting the samurai

One quote that stuck with me in the Last Ronin story was Mikey arguing with the ghosts of his brothers and he said “I fought in every battle you ever had! Even the ones you started!”
After his brothers died, Mikey blamed himself and he’s the reason why his brothers died and because of his immaturity, he suffered depression and became the last ronin, he’s gotten stronger now, trained hard, become and combination of his 3 brothers, and now he uses his brother’s weapons, gotten the personality of his 3 brothers, and now he’s gonna avenge his family and find the person who killed them. Now again, he’s the Last Ronin.
In the nikolodan tv series he was even skilled to even block splinters hits while he was unaware not listening not looking and not paying attention but just dancing and everyone in the sewer were flabbergastered by his skill of being in the mood

Master splinter gave Mikey the nunchucks because when they were all still mastering their weapons as children he saw that Mikey had them all beat with their respective weapons. He was the most naturally gifted of the 4 so to teach him humility while giving him creativity in battle he gave Mikey nunchucks the most difficult weapon to effectively use in combat but he still was as effective in battle as the others

This is more in line with the original tmnt line and its fitting cause its the first time both original creators have been involved at the same time in decades.
Imagine if Leo managed to survive but Mikey didn't know and they came to blows as Mikey believed that it was just another one of his hallucinations. That's a fight I'd love to see.
Everyone should've already known that Mikey was the strongest. Ralph was the aggressor, Donnie was calculated, Leo went by the book, and Mikey was the genius (even though he was so humble that not many thought much of him). Even as a kid, seeing him doing those acrobatics during combat while the others were just struggling, made me realize he was quite literally the goat. My favorite character in the series. No bias, just carried a lot of the episodes.
Mikey was always most natural talented turtle. With his brothers he didn't need to be all those things. But losing his brothers would force him to be the best one.
He was happy to let his bros fill the role they wanted, and he became the heart. If push comes to shove however he is the last person you want to piss off. Leo and Splinter have seen his hidden talent/skill and commented on it.

That’s just so heartbreaking. The goofball who just wants to make jokes and play with his brothers. He loses everything and becomes so hardened. I think a lot of us can relate to that the older we get.
Knew a guy that was goofy and always laughed things off and was very much like Mikey. When we had a one on one alone chat on our way back from a tough job, he told about how he used humor to cope from how he lost everything. His wife divorced him, took his kids, his truck, his house. One day when his wife was drinking and driving with the kids, she got in a wreck and both of his kids died in the accident. It was one of the saddest fucking things I ever experienced with another man, and to this day, the cover song by Disturbed, "Sound of Silence" reminds me of this guy because we were together when we heard this song play for the first time on the radio.
The nunchucks are the most difficult to master, Mikey also has a sense of humor unlike the other three which is often associated with being witty. Most of the time we cast him a side because he doesn’t take things seriously, slightly annoying, and he’s loud.
God, thinking of Mikey, the most kind and happy-go-lucky character, having to turn dark like that... it makes my heart hurt, since Mikey always held a special place in heart (Leo is my favorite but...), and it reminds me of someone I know who has gone through hell for the last year, who has undergone a somewhat similar transformation. I believe Splinter has said that Michelangelo has the most potential out of all the Turtles, so seeing Mikey finally live up to that potential to avenge his brothers, father, everyone else is amazing

I always said Michaelangelo was the best. The fact that he could pull that shit off and still be cheerful and laid back proves that he has more to give. It just took something exceptionally traumatic to make him give it his all.
I remember someone posting a video with this take. “Leo was given katana’s to teach him restraint to not kill despite having the tool. Raph was given sai’s because they were a defensive weapon to counter his anger. Donny was give a simple wooden stick as a counter balance to his love and use of technology. Mikey was given nunchaku to teach him to focus.” In terms of Mikey, think about how strong and gifted he had to be that a pair of nunchaku were given as his main weapon to force him to focus. He was always strong. He was just a joyous spirit. Until he lost it all.
It actually hurt my heart a bit to read the Last Ronin segment. Mikey was always the heart of the group. The lovable goofball who could make friends with almost anybody. For him to turn into an understandably angry person who only sought revenge made me feel so bad for him. Good storytelling though and the ending is bittersweet
Seeing somebody as opportunistic and cool with everything as Michelangelo go through that character development is like one of the most gut punching things any comic could do
It actually makes sense based on the personalities between the turtles that it would be Mikey. Mikey is the most chill , care free, least focused, and most importantly the happiest out of the group. the death of his brothers broke him into something he never was. He's now the exact opposite and turned him into a straight savage.
I always suspected Mike would've been the most dangerous. Because the only thing that kept him below his bothers was his lack of focus, which thats exactly why Master Splinter gave him nun chucks to improve his focus in battle.
Mikey finally realized life is not a f****** joke. Also not to mention his comedic acts probably was what he used to repress what he really was on the inside the best.

In one comic, he tore Iron man's armor apart with Iron man trying his best to land a hit on him yet not even being able to keep up with his movements.

Some people like to overlook the fact Mikey masters one of the hardest weapons AND uses it doubled. Apparently the nunchucks are to teach him focused because he's supposed to have that little scatterbrained touch
They original comics where super dark from what I hear (Clunk the cat was hit by a car of all things 😢). But Mikey being the last survivor makes sense (next to Leo) being he could be the best fighter in terms of raw skill it makes sense his brothers faught the hardest to protect him at the cost of their own lives. No doubt the trauma and experience would mold him into a fantastic warrior in one of the most heartbreaking storylines to ever exist.
Uh I don't know if you are aware but Mikey can meditate enough to telepathically communicate and actually manifest a ghostly image of his target with ninjitsu "shadow arts".
They all can actually master splinter passed that knowledge on to them. Took them a while to break thru it happened after the events of when we first are introduced.
That is why TLR is so good as well, we see Mike go from happy cheerful carefree guy to sole survivor who is the most dangerous of the 4. He was always said to be the most naturally talented and skilled, he just don’t need to prove it, when shit gets real however he really put foot to ass showing “they fucked with the wrong one”.
I bought it recently, I was blown away. The story is sad, heartfelt, gritty, dark, and not too long. It really is perfect. And man I wondered who the last turtle was.

I still remember how in the 2003 series, there was an episode where one of the turtles went to the future (I think it was Donatello) and he finds Mikey, bursting out of a closed container and taking out a group of bad guys. The thing is, Mikey was the only one still alive, and he only had one arm. This really struck me as a kid, and made me take Mikey more seriously. He was a beast

After his brothers died, Mikey blamed himself and he’s the reason why his brothers died and because of his immaturity, he suffered depression and became the last ronin, he’s gotten stronger now, trained hard, become and combination of his 3 brothers, and now he uses his brother’s weapons, gotten the personality of his 3 brothers, and now he’s gonna avenge his family and find the person who killed them. Now again, he’s the Last Ronin.

He was the most naturally gifted of the 4 so to teach him humility while giving him creativity in battle he gave Mikey nunchucks the most difficult weapon to effectively use in combat but he still was as effective in battle as the others

Everyone should've already known that Mikey was the strongest.
Ralph was the aggressor, Donnie was calculated, Leo went by the book, and Mikey was the genius (even though he was so humble that not many thought much of him). Even as a kid, seeing him doing those acrobatics during combat while the others were just struggling, made me realize he was quite literally the goat.
My favorite character in the series. No bias, just carried a lot of the episodes.

I think Mikey is actually the most emotionally vulnerable of the Turtles, which is why he uses humor as a defense mechanism.
Knew a guy that was goofy and always laughed things off and was very much like Mikey. When we had a one on one alone chat on our way back from a tough job, he told about how he used humor to cope from how he lost everything. His wife divorced him, took his kids, his truck, his house. One day when his wife was drinking and driving with the kids, she got in a wreck and both of his kids died in the accident. It was one of the saddest fucking things I ever experienced with another man, and to this day, the cover song by Disturbed, "Sound of Silence" reminds me of this guy because we were together when we heard this song play for the first time on the radio.
The nunchucks are the most difficult to master, Mikey also has a sense of humor unlike the other three which is often associated with being witty. Most of the time we cast him a side because he doesn’t take things seriously, slightly annoying, and he’s loud.

It actually hurt my heart a bit to read the Last Ronin segment. Mikey was always the heart of the group. The lovable goofball who could make friends with almost anybody. For him to turn into an understandably angry person who only sought revenge made me feel so bad for him. Good storytelling though and the ending is bittersweet

Some people like to overlook the fact Mikey masters one of the hardest weapons AND uses it doubled. Apparently the nunchucks are to teach him focused because he's supposed to have that little scatterbrained touch
They original comics where super dark from what I hear (Clunk the cat was hit by a car of all things 😢). But Mikey being the last survivor makes sense (next to Leo) being he could be the best fighter in terms of raw skill it makes sense his brothers faught the hardest to protect him at the cost of their own lives.
No doubt the trauma and experience would mold him into a fantastic warrior in one of the most heartbreaking storylines to ever exist.

I bought it recently, I was blown away. The story is sad, heartfelt, gritty, dark, and not too long. It really is perfect. And man I wondered who the last turtle was.
As a TMNT Kid in the 90s this concept gave me goosebumps. Brilliant!
The last ronin was crazy good I loved Mikey and he changed from goofy to cold and calculated makes it even better thats good character development.
That first issue on those last few pages almost had a dark turn.
