- i don’t think friendships are necessarily a forever thing. i think sometimes it’s beneficial to end them. in my twenties, i tried to stay in expired friendships where the dynamic was doing me a disservice. in this episode, i talk through two examples of when i ended “key” friendships in my life.
Some friends drift in and out of your life as the decades pass and life takes you in different directions. What I've found is the friendships that actually END are most often due to being so close that you know EVERYTHING about each other... all the secrets, shame and trauma... where all the bodies are buried so to speak. It's really hard to break away from the past and make a fresh start when the person next to you is a constant reminder of everything you want to leave behind.
That's a very interesting and profound perspective on friendship! I never personally thought of it this way, but looking back at some of my friendships, I can honestly say that our closeness was a leading factor in my friendships ending.
Jennette! I really needed to hear this. Thank you for being so vulnerable and honest. I feel this with a friend of mine. I think that the fact you felt you did not word things the best has pushed me to end this friendship in a thoughtful way and instead of spewing my unfiltered thoughts.
I was so happy to find this. Your book was very helpful to me . I read it this week 3 times. I wasn't a fan as i didn't watch much television at the time but i always remember seeing you now and again when i was in a room with a tv, and thinking something looked off in your eyes in a painful way.(I wasn't trying to judge you it was just such a strong feeling of ouch in you) Im so happy you have been working through your painful experiences truly thank you for so carefully sharing. It has encouraged me to keep digging out of my own challenging childhood.❤️

@@kcirtapelyk6060 Yeah I know but in some interviews Jennette has said that they aren't so close anymore. Even it's been a while since they don't interact in social media.
I hope it makes you feel better to know neither of these sound ANYTHING like how she's described her friendship with Miranda, at any point. They drifted apart but they're still in contact and she's always spoken glowingly of Miranda.
