can i just say brilliant video again have you thought about using the plastic clip that you put on an opened loaf instead of mole grips
I've got a Viking 2 with same engine and carb runs for a few minutes then cuts out what could it be plz
Was gifted this EXACT model mower from a neighbor who moved. All it needs is to be cleaned, and to replace the carburetor, which he already ordered previously, so it came with. (...and obviously, oil and gas...) so thank you for this video!
This model actually looks WAY easier than I expected.
I'm half-Irish, I love your accent and so would my mother!!
HELLO MR. MOWER MAN!!! SALUTE TO YOU FROM DALLAS TEXAS!!! I wanted to let you know I just fixed my lawnmower that would not start for the past month and a half. I couldn't have done it without you. No one gave the step by step information the way YOU did. You sir are AMAZING. Thanks again and God bless.🍺
Right on! Thanks for your kind words!
Thank you so much I fixed my lawn mower through this video and saved myself £36 😊
Thanks god that this wasn't an American video - very thorough and too the point no waffle (unlike American videos)
A thought about a non-starting non-running B&S lawnmower. I recall that crankcase pressure is important in ensuring appropriate fuel supply via carburettor in a number of Briggs and Stratton engines.. That breather from the carbie to the crankcase would act to provide the pressure pulse from crankcase to carbie that enables the fuel to get into the combustion chamber. And another thought; if you leave the lawnmower out in the rain or even fog, expect moisture to get into the petrol tank and then into the float bowl, which will stop the fuel flow. It doesn't take much water to prevent running. Try add a bit of meths to the petrol tank as this may help as water and meths mix as do petrol and meths.
My mower sat all winter with old gas in the tank. I changed out the fuel, but still got no start. I just followed along with the video and went through the process of cleaning out my carb. Amazing how simple it was. My mower runs great now. Thanks for the great breakdown!
My mower has been running bad for the past 2 years and this was my first time taking a carburetor apart. I was a little nervous but I followed all your steps and put it back together and it started first pull on the first start of the season. The only thing I recommend is at 9:46 I'm not sure if you mentioned it but there is a little metal disk that could fly out when you use compressed air. It flew out and my heart dropped but thankfully I found it. Thanks for the great video.
I’ve just bought one of these for £20 as a non runner. This video has helped me enormously as yours always do. Cheers pal!
This was an absolute pleasure to watch , learning from someone who clearly knows what they’re talking about .
I have this mower and have always been too worried about maintaining it further than sharpening the blade and checking the spark plug .
Thank you .
Subbed .
Thanks much appreciated
Thanks so much for the detailed effort! Big help......I won't be cleaning the carburetor though as the cost of a replacement plastic carburetor is $7.00. Makes more sense to this non-mechanic old guy! Thanks again
Mine would run for a few seconds then quit, following your video right now, I'm in the US, your accent is just like my family in England😅
Yippee! Petrol tank popped off a treat and the spring was hanging down but intact! Clipped it back on and the mower started no problem!
I'll renew the spring when I get the chance , the old one seems fine but to pop off for no obvious reason it must be weaker than it should be.
As a closeted gay guy who knows nothing about engines - THANK YOU FOR THIS. I managed to fix my moms mower with the help of this tutorial. It works perfectly. 💪
Awesome!
Fantastic video - never stripped a carburettor down before and found the video to be easy to follow and my mower is running smoothly now - thank you for your help.
You're a great teacher, got mine going this afternoon after watching your vid, thanks mate!
Fantastic video! I have reached the point where you lifted the petrol tank off. I noticed the carburettor linkage moves so freely it was hard to imagine it had a function.
I am now fairly confident I am going to find a broken spring under the pterol tank and that will be why my motor cut out. Bless you for taking the time to help us amateurs out.
I am now equipped to clean the carb should that be necessary. You have cheered me up so thank you.
I've just followed this guide and have just fixed my erratic idle. Thanks
I am probably the most non-mechanically minded person you could meet, yet I followed your instructions and everything worked a treat! Thank you so much. It’s the first engine I’ve ever repaired (but I do know it’s all thanks to you). Liked and subscribed!
Thanks I appreciate that!
Thanks for doing this! I've always been scared of taking an engine apart, but this video helped me feel confident enough that I cleaned out my carburettor and my mower started first time. Another pandemic skill learned!
Glad I could help!
This video is excellent, I followed it to fix my neighbours mower. Thank you!
Great job, mate. You are really easy to listen to and you know what you are doing. Thanks a lot.
Very well put together video, too a few watches but I got it all sorted and it's running much better now. I'm tempted to start a lawnmower repair service after this!
Nice one, mower runs sweet as a nut now .Thank you.👍👍👍👍👍
THANK you for the video, working on one this week, 450e model
Great video! My one's governor spring got distorted and came off today in some undergrowth and I hadn't a clue how it fitted until I saw your video.
Brilliant Video - really helpful in sorting out my lawnmower.
How good was this video? So well explained. Thanks mate, saved me half a days work.
Brilliant video.
I sorted out a sputtering rotorvator in a couple of hours. Gloves a definate requirement, with that carb spray, I used washing up gloves and it disintegrated the ends of the fingers.
Got a McCulloch with the 450e engine I feel happy enough to have a go at this.
Much appreciated video, now i can fix my daughters mower with the exact same engine.
Bloody brilliant! I've just spent a few hours looking at some other vids with other B and S engines. All the time thinking, 'That doesn't look anything like mine!' Finally found your page and BINGO - the right engine. Can't believe how the carb goes together. I've got a rough sounding engine so will take it apart (as shown) and see what happens. Above all, thanks, because you've given me the confidence to have a go! Cheers MM
Great, easy to follow and money saving hints.Mine was a pain this week would not run after starting, thanks
This was so useful and within half an hour I had my mower up and running and finished off the lawn. You are a brilliant demonstrator; thank you so much.
Thanks Ken
Followed this excellent video and successfully resurrected my Craftsman mower in about 30 minutes! Well done!!! Beats buying a new carb!!!😎
Hi I have a B & S 500e that's had a fuel problem for 12 months, I watched your video then did a carb strip down as shown and guess what, it runs as sweet as the day a bought it new. Thanks for sharing your knowledge, much appreciated. 👍
Brilliant quality and thorough explanation and guidance. Thanks a million for creating great content.
Vincent Clohessy Thanks! Much appreciated!
Followed every set of your video cheers mate working like a dream now
My lawnmower fired up first time 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Kevin Moore Glad I could help Kevin!
I've just took mine to bits put it back together it'll fire up then cut out. I have a feeling I didn't clean the carb out properly now after watching this video. I gave it a good spray with carb cleaner but I never knew the middle part of the carb could come out where the main jet is. Thanks for the video. Very helpful.
Your explanation while servicing the lawn mower awesome...👍👍
Thanks Yimin!
May I respectfully suggest that you consider using the compressor to blow off any loose debris much earlier in the process - perhaps as early as just before removing the carb assembly. Using a paper or cloth plug in the air intake should help with blown in internal contamination from the oily grass clippings.
when disassembling the float also consider popping loose both sides of the hinge pin - better control.
Wonderful video. Man shooting you straight. What I love is, I have this engine and have not had to do that yet :) Done it to a plenty others. Because of this video, I will know what sockets to grab before I start the job.
Excellent video. I fixed a 450e on a Mountfield HP185 2021 version. It wouldn't start. Now after a good carb clean it starts first pull. Job done. Thanks for the great guide which is so clear 😊
Well done Tony!
Excellent and encouraging video.
This is very helpful. I have a 450E B&S and it started to hunt revving up and down and it’s barely three years old. Your video has now given me the confidence to get the carb off and Sort it out. It seems a simple enough job if one takes one’s time. Now to get some carb cleaner before I start....many thanks.
Carbs are pretty cheap for these. If it doesn't work get a new one. They can be a bit troublesome
simple to follow. Clear explanation. Very helpful. Thanks for your time.
barry ramsurn Thanks Barry! Much appreciated!
Thanks for showing us how to remove the jets on plastic carb and air vent... (I'm familiar with b/s carb metal) helps a lot 😊 lovely video straight to the point 10/10...
Thanks, very helpful to know even though I dont do it myself. It is still good to know what happens when I take it for service .
Big thanks mate, very helpful !
Hey Mower Man, great video, never serviced a petrol engine/carburettor before, was easy to follow and it got my mower going again, and saved me a repair/service fee.
excellent
Appreciate the video instruction. Mower running great now.
Glad it helped
Great video. Just cleaned (emery paper) the spark plug and air filter on the mother-in-law's mower and was hoping to find a video in case I needed to get a bit more involved. Amazed at how easy this is to dismantle and the carburettor is so simple! I know now I can take it apart to service it without any fear :) Thanks for a great video.
Thanks for watching Jim
Excellent video, thanks.
Great video and instructions. Thank you
great job with the video i just picked up 4 of these lawn mowers a couple weeks ago from a guy that couldn't get them to work and he sold them to me for 5 dollars each so i said ill take them he even brought them to my house. they are like new and one of them was a big Honda self drive.. i paid 20 USD for the lot, but anyhow i was having the same issue on one of them and needed to see how the carburetor was attached..i knew it would be a simple fix but it was missing the filter cover so I'm having to buy a cover and a filter for the 450E.. which compared to what i paid for all 4 wont be much.. but I'm like you in that aspect of cleaning my mowers before i reattach the carburetors. Briggs & Stratton carburetors are easy to work on even the older ones are simple. they are basically the same they have a float and a jet needle. cleaning them is the key. you really helped me with this one.. thanks for being so concise ..greetings for mount Holly North Carolina..have a great weekend. Going out yard selling again tomorrow morning, and i hope i find some great things to bring home. take care and keep those great informative videos coming out..you helped me big time..Peace !
My lawnmower I was given, wouldn't start, was full of old oil, which I drained and replaced, took out the sparkplug, cleaned it with a bit of fine paper, scrubbed it with an old toothbrush checked for a spark, was sparking ok, put some fresh petrol and it fired up, but it wasnt running very well, the auto valve was opening looking for more fuel,so I stripped the dellorto carb and cleaned it with the toothbrush in fresh petrol, put it back together and its running fine, ticking over nicely, didn't really know what I was doing, but over 35 years ago I taught myself to strip and build two stroke vespa engines, even though I havent touched an engine for 30 years the principles are the same I suppose, they both need a spark, fuel and air
Excellent video - thanks. I'll have a go at that.
Thank you so much, 100% clear how to and fully explained ! WISH ALL THINGS WHERE EXPLAINED BY YOU ! ,AGAIN MANY THANKS
Thanks Mike
Awesome video! Thank you friend! Its great knowing now someone on RUclips here actually knows what theyre talking about! Ive my lawn mower back again!
Hey funny thing, I found the gas tank on mine here in the US is identical to your petrol tank in the video! 😂HAHAHA (couldnt resist😉...seriously tho thank you! Saved me a LOT)
Thanks for making this process much easier for me.
You're very welcome!
Thanks for the great video, now got to try and source parts B&S are useless here in NZ.
Thanks man. Your vid saved me 100-200 bucks.
Glad I could help
Thanks it was brilliant video grate your effort appreciated thanks again it helped me
Excellent easy video
Great video. Thanks
That was good to watch David looks like a nice mower ....I just advertised 4 mowers for sale on f book market place for sale they haven't been serviced as I don't have the time fingers crossed someone will by them
good luck Adam
Thanks ,,,, handshakes
This is so informative. I bought a second hand mower like this and it's been surging. I've tried changing the plug but didn't want to take the carb apart. I shall now be taking my carb apart! Thank you for this video.
Theodore Griffiths Good luck!
Mower Man I’ve just finished rebuilding my carb. No noticeable dirt but cleaned everything. It’s now running spot on. Thanks again.
Good video ,you explain things well , good detail .
Thank you I really appreciate that.
Good video. I just bought an used one yesterday and clean it. I did pretty much what you did except I have not taken the carb apart but will now, thanks to your video. I have one question? I have what looks like an broken tube comeing out of my gas tank. I think it was barbed with a hose going to the air inlet on the barbed piece on the carb. I notice in your video you only had the air inlet piece on the carb. I put an hose going from the piece on the carb to the gas tank. There was no hose on it when I picked it up. Just figured maybe a hose went there. Not sure. Maybe you know and can let me know. I am still looking an parts list for this model. Thanks for any help. Good video.
Thanks for the vid. On the hole in the carb the the pumper bulb lines up with there appears to be a spring, should there be a ball bearing against the spring? The reason I ask is mine is blowing fuel out of the primer bulb when running and it leaks out when it in the garage.
This is a really great video and very easy to follow. One question is my mower is now starting and running which is great as it wouldn't start before. Its running a little rough so I am wondering if I have not cleaned something enough or if the old fuel which has been stored in a sealed can might be the cause?
thank you, very helpful!
Very good video. Nice greetings from Slovenia.
zpl2000 Thanks!
Thanks so much for this video, my mower was a pig to starts and once running the engine was "hunting". I followed all the steps in your video and the mower started first pull and is running like a dream, thanks again!
Bill Watson Thats great Bill! Glad to help
Brilliant video..thanks
Really helpful, I've got a problem with the idle on the same model. When running it peaks and troughs. I've taken the carb off and all looks OK. I might just order a new carb for a tenner. Could it be anything else? I can't see any adjustments anywhere.
Great video thanks.
I have the same lawnmower, mine has started to surge when gets hot. I've cleaned the air filter and spark plug. Any ideas, cheers.
I think I have exactly the same problem. I will give it a go tomorrow and let you know if it works.
B
thanks mate, helped a lot.
I own one of these, have had it for five years, they're definitely a lot easier to service than the old brigs with all the spring linkage, I can get my carb off and have it cleaned out in about 40 minutes. Taking my time ofc.
Thanks for sharing
thank you learned a lot
Very useful 👍
Great video
Thanks for the visit
Great video. Thanks for doing it.
Cheers Ronald
I believe the oily air filter comes, because when people try to clean the underneath after mowing, the flip the mower carburetor downwards which allows the oil to soak into the air filter. Only flip the mower spark plug downwards or carburettor upwards ;)
Oil is put on the sponge and wrung out so its damp with oil to catch dust etc. What you describe also happens
Hi thanks for a great video I have a mower with the same engine how does the throttle open and close it doesn't seem to be attached to thebrake linkage in any way just to the linkage at the back of the motor but that doesn't seem to do anything
Thanks for the great video legend!
Question..
I have the 450.
But can only find parts online for the 450e.
I’m after a carby rebuild kit and new governor springs.
Do you know of the 450e parts will fit my 450?
Thanks 🙏🏽
THANKS!!! I did it!!! 👍🏻🙏🏻😎
Hi great video. Quick question. Do you soak the foam air filter in oil? I noticed you cleaned the existing with fuel but didn’t say if you needed to soak in in oil?
Hi, someone pulled the starter cord on my 450e without pulling the brake handle first. Seems like the engine is a bit rougher. Any thoughts on how I can fix/improve?
Great selection of videos - very informative and easy to follow. I have a Hayter 413H with a B&S 650 Ex Series Eco Plus Engine which has the classic hunting characteristic but only during initial operation - after 3-4 minutes of grass cutting, the engine runs very smoothly. Also the engine is sometimes difficult to restart after emptying the grass box. Are these symptoms of a carb overhaul needing to be done - I did dismantle the carb last year and couldn't find anything wrong but that was before I watched your videos....!!! Appreciate any comments. Keep up the good work making videos.
Thanks a lot!
Very nice video BUT - when I removed the white plastic air inlet jet projecting from the side of the carb. I noticed that there was no hole at all in the end to let air in. You said that that this had to have a clear hole in it or the engine would not run. The mower runs but is hunting so I think it is the carb. I wonder if that is a rogue jet which was made without a hole- the plastic moulding with no hole makes it effectively a blank plug. Perhaps a later/earlier design? Thanks again for a great tutorial!
It's a great video, though very sadly not for our model. We have a Gardenline (B&S engine) 575ex (Aldi purchase in 2015). Have you any video recommendations for the carburettor service for this model?
My replacement came with a circular orange spare rubber seal. Does it replace the black on on the intake manifold behind the white one?
Great video. Saved me time and money
Thanks Willie
My problem is i replaced a sheared pin on the fly wheel, I started it up and ran it for a few seconds. I released the handle and it shut off like it should. I went to start it again and would not start ? Any idea as to what needs to be checked, thank you for your video. Nice job !
Obrigado pela legenda ajudou muito 👍
Hi, I seem to have the same problem as others on here, Stripped and cleaned the carb completely but the motor is still hunting, any ideas?
