What about what Ragnar did? Trusting Athelstan and leaving his people at the mercy of Wessex, killing the survivor who told him about to keep the truth from his people, treating those who are truly loyal to him like badly (Lagertha, Floki,) and idolising Athelstan who didn't even come to the aid of Ragnar's family. I think both Floki and Ragnar are fascinating characters but for me the worst things in in season 3 were pretty much done by Ragnar. At the very least we should all be grateful to Floki for ridding the show of the terminally dull Athelstan!
And then Bjorn fucked everything up when Ragnar was trying to conceal the Flokis secret. Forcing Ragnar to punish him.
Ragnar believes in second chances. That is apparent through out the show :)

Vikings has a funny way of taking my favorite characters and making them my least favorite, and then making them my favorite again all in the span of a few episodes. Floki, Athelstan, Rollo, I've loved and hated them all at different times
Your Vikings videos are where you truly triumph! I've never seen a full episode of this show and yet you truly made me sympathize for Floki and Ragnar because this video is just so masterfully crafted. I truly hope to see more of your videos on this show.

Zurik my friend, after watching your videos for years now, I have to say your Vikings and your Spartacus videos are my favorites. Perhaps because those are two series I hold close to my heart. I'm team Athelstan all the way, but I do hope Ragnar forgives Floki, as Floki only does what he believes is right by the Gods. I've just finished season 1, I ran myself into some spoilers with this video, but it's very well done! I don't know exactly what is it about him, but Floki is a very interesting and easy to love character.

Notice that Floki is the only character who lives out of town, way out in the middle of nowhere. I've always wondered if that's because he want's his personal space, or if the rest of the Vikings won't let him live in town.
I think he prefere the woods and the lake. So he lives for free there in his mind.
Think he prefers it that way. When Bjorn asks why Floki wasn't at the Thing in season 1 Ragnar says "He's shy." Probably just prefers isolation with Helga.

Even though Floki needs to get blood eagles for what he did to Ragnars lo................... friend, he's still a really interesting character. Any other priest and I would have said: GO Floki, make sure the gods stay with you all. But it was Athelboo. He broke Ragnar's heart! And for that, I want him to suffer, and die choking on his own blood.

So friggin disappointed Ragnar is dead. Now only Floki and Lagertha can save the show. Ragnar's sons are stale and wooden. Good thing they're only doing one more season. It was a great show but time to wrap it up.

Ragnar loved both Athelstan and Floki, in different ways. He loved Floki for always being at his side, for being a loyal friend and battle companion for as long as he could remember. He loved him for his wit and his brilliance. He loved Floki for being who he was even if he was seen as odd. He loved Floki for always listening to the gods, something Ragnar himself was very torn about. But in all his brilliance, Floki was very narrow minded.
And then Athelstan came along. Ragnar loved Athelstan for being able to see beyond the narrow horizon of Religions, beyond the boundaries of their different societies. Ragnar had found a kidred spirit in that monk who shared his own dilemma. Athelstan, while not always true to one faith, was always true to Ragnar, and no matter what people he was surrounded with, he acted as their moral compass. Athelstan showed Ragnar how important compassion and forgiveness were, which we are reminded of in the scene where Athelstan comes to Ragnar in a dream and pleads for mercy for his killer. Athelstan knows that Ragnar is beside himself and about to let Floki suffer for the rest of his life, and Athelstan knows Ragnar couldn't survive losing his last friend.
Floki, while being an awesome friend to Ragnar, was always jealous of Athelstan, from since the day they met. He was jealous that Ragnar deemed a foreigner, a Christian, an outsider, more interesting than him. He was angry that Ragnar forsook the gods Floki believed in favor of this new, completely different world view that Athelstan brought with him. He was also angry that despite him constantly reminding Athelstan of how much he disliked him, Athelstan never fought back or got angry in return. Floki couldn't grasp that level of forgiveness, and he hated it even more since it came from a foreign god. Floki hated that Ragnar and Athelstan were so loyal towards one another and that Ragnar had basically replaced him with his new friend. Because he felt betrayed, not only by the gods but also by Ragnar, he got bitter and tried to drive a wedge between them. But as we know, that didn't work, because Ragnar could see right through it. Ragnar didn't believe Floki for one second that Athelstan had betrayed him, because he knew in his heart that Athelstan was too good of a person to betray all of his morals for selfish reasons. Because Ragnar knew Floki's true intentions - selfish jealousy - Floki unwillingly pushed Ragnar and Athelstan closer together, and himself and Ragnar further apart.
The last straw was definitely when Athelstan fully embraced Christianity again. This was a slap in the face for Floki not only because it was a betrayal of the gods, but much more so because Ragnar fully accepted that choice. Ragnar fully accepted Athelstan and Athelstan remained loyal despite their differences. They loved eachother unconditionally. Ragnar also loved Floki unconditionally, but Floki broke everything when he betrayed that trust Ragnar valued more than anything else and killed Athelstan.
Floki killed the best friend of his best friend - out of jealousy. That was his true motiv. Ragnar knew it and did everything to get Floki to confess this, but instead Floki hid behind his gods as an excuse. He tried ease his own concience by trying to convince himself and Ragnar that he did it for the greater good, when really, he only did it for himself. He was too afraid to own up to his choice and for that, Ragnar could never forgive him.
