This character is literally very well written.
I found the show a couple months ago, and I’ve binge watched the whole thing from beginning to end. Now, after watching a few of these clips, I think I’m ready to watch it again. All of the actors are superb! I am very surprised that none of them won any awards.
He was broken as soon as he found out his brother betrayed him.
That is why he decided to die. Because he was constantly torn between killing himself or everyone around him.

Ragnars legend (I'm sure there are some truths to it. I'm sure it's mostly myths and exaggerations like all legends, but..) is a fascinating one. I just recently started this show, although I've been into their culture for a long time, and I think their mythology is as interesting as the Greeks, Roman's, and Egyptians. I was not only NOT disappointed in beginning the show, but I caught up with the show in like 3 weeks. Talk about binge watching lol. I was hooked. And the man that plays Ragnar did a wonderful job, especially as the character aged. Also Rollo and Flokey were great characters. Best show I've seen in awhile and can't wait to see how the war between Ragnars sons play out. I'm kind of torn between Bjorn/ Uber and Ivar. I don't agree with Ivars ideas because there's a fine line between Genius and insanity and sometimes it's hard to tell the difference. Insane rulers have always been successful though. Even today, successful businessmen are likely psychopaths.
Watch The Last Kingdom. It is one of the few shows IMO that surpass Vikings. Also, it's about Vikings ;)

What make ragnar lothbrok so dangerous is that he was as fearless as Ivar and also a great warrior like Bjorn, it's seem like bjorn and ivar was the two part of the personnality of they father, he was also a great dreamer like ubbe, and very sentimental like vitserk.
