@@melodie869 Yeah...that comment that I made earlier, about the men being made of steel even though their boats were just made of plain wood, I knew deep in my heart that that was the truth. Back in those days, men behaved like men. Plus that comment just sprouted immediately in my mind when I recalled the Vikings, especially Ragnar Lothbrok in particular. Now that's the kind of father figure every boy should have, or look up to when he's growing up...if you ask me. Every growing boy needs a male authority figure to look up to. Ragnar Lothbrok would fit that description perfectly. All the way down to the Tee.

Part of my years of woodwork I've been making timber canoes with 13yr Olds. Ist lesson is always bout expectations and boundaries.
During the class I introduce a song such as this. By the end of the year we go for a week's journey in the boats they have built and along the journey a kid will randomly Start one of the songs we've been singing while building. Sixty odd voices chanting together in the wind n water , paddles pulled in time.
It's understandable why it works and how intimidating it can be.
