I'm so fed up with many disc manufacturers who are only producing max weight discs, thereby feeding the false idea that everyone should throw max weights like the pros. So many newbies are buying these heavy discs because they don't know any better only to find out their new discs fly like lead bricks. Sadly the main reason they're only making max weight discs is to streamline production and increase quantity output without regard for the varying skills of buyers. I'm on the edge as far as max weight putters and mids go. I know it makes them more consistent but it also means you have to throw them a lot harder to reach the target which means less accuracy even on shorter shots. Personally I would never buy anything above 170g. Lots of good advice in this video!
@@gamerguy765 Your best bets are Innova, MVP/Axiom, Lat 64 Opto AIR, Westside VIP AIR. Millennium, Infinite Discs. Also DGA makes the SAIL in lighter weights.
Solid Vlog. The Glitch is a great warmup disc with your friends. If not, I am a big fan of having fewer disc choices and it makes it easier to know which disc you need for each shot. I normally carry only 12 discs per round. 14 when I add only putters to my bag.
Very good points! Lighter weight discs help a ton. Despite the brand you throw, you should look to Innova, MVP, etc for their lighter weights starting with 7 speeds in my opinion.
This video was very informative for me, and I’m very guilty of doing all these mistakes before a round and not knowing more about weights. Thank you 🤙🏼
Thanks for the video! When ever I try to really power a disc, I hold it too long and it goes high and right. I’ve have to guard against this impulse and just throw normally. It’s not about trying to match other players, but about trying to throw it further than my current form allows.
I mostly agree. The only semi issue I have is about disc weights. Some molds will vary in stability (same plastic/run) because of different weights. A max weight might be more understable than lower weights, making it easier to throw at slower speeds.
@@Arrica101 Aura Construct by Thought Space Athletics is a newer example. Heavier of course won't always be more understable across molds/plastics/brands just like it won't be always more overstable.
Great video!.... I was so curious to see if I was truly guilty of any of these 10 and no I am not. Yes in the past I was, but not anymore. The longer you play the more knowledge you gain, as in anything. Got a few people I will be sharing this video with!
Guilty of all😳 I’m nearly 59 so taking all this on board will be tough, I definitely do tense up when putting also when driving also when approaching 🤔 come to think of it I do tense most of the day, but I’ll definitely work on it 😂
Heyyo!! These shots were taken at Christie’s lake’s court yeah? Can you confirm? I just started disc golfing about a month ago and that’s where I usually go!
warmup? oh, you mean the front 9! i kid, i kid; i've noticed a marked increase in performance and decrease in soreness just from playing catch for 10-15 min before teeing off. sometimes i even stretch, too!
Having only played about half a year I have made many of the mentioned mistakes. I am now trying to buy lighter discs but what annoys me is that it’s hard to get the information about what weights a disc is produced in. The max weight is always available through PDGA. An example, I have a 174g Kastaplast Falk which I like but I thought I might try a lighter version. So I was thinking “What is the lightest Falk produced?”. The information is not even available at the Kastaplast website…
Yeah weight information isn't provided frequently. Your best bet is always to head into stores and look at the discs. Brign your own scale honestly since the weights are often not correct. Sorry for the reply!
I feel like one of the most common issues, including myself, is throwing nose up. I really struggle to keep nose down and see so many amateurs with same problem.
@@JustDisc I’ll check out that video! Love your stuff. I too was a life long ball golfer but started DG a year ago, played 100 rounds and not sure I’ll play much, if any ball golf again. Disc golf baby!
Too many discs. Guilty as charged. My excuse is that I don't really have time for field work so I carry some discs that I'm trying out and throw second shots with them on casual rounds. We played a 5 disc only round with my boys last fall. Ended up matching our best scores at our private 9 hole course.
To each there own! There are many players at there that do well carrying 30+ discs. In the end, it’s whatever works best for you. If you are happy with your game, there is no need to make any changes :) 👍
I carry 35 to 40 discs for most my casual rounds to practice throwing 3 to 5 shots per hole. But for an actual competitive round where I'm throwing 1 disc per hole I only need to bag about 12 to 15 discs max. And even then i could probably carry less without seeing much of a change if any in my average score.
One thing that I have seen quite a bit is over thinking a shot and I'm guilty of it myself. Taking 1 or 2 pump fakes on a put is fine, taking 6 or 7 is doing you no favours. Look at the shot you want but don't over stress it, just get on and throw the disc like you know how
That's the case for many courses. Not a good excuse to not stretch (especially when there are some like Disc Golf Strong warm-up that doesn't take more than a few minutes). And nothing should prevent you from doing some practice putts and drives on a hole as long as you let players on the hole complete it.
Why would more air density make the disc more overstable? It's the exact opposite. Just like how playing at elevation in thinner air makes the disc more overstable.

Nice content I find stretching and breathing for putting easy adjustments
Nice meeting you in Fort Walton Beach Florida. I appreciate the forehand tips and this first video was excellent.
Hey! Thanks for commenting and nice to meet you too 👍 Great meeting someone from around the area ❤️
as a beginner these videos are some of the best!
Thank you Heyerlaw, we glad you notice and appreciate the hard work that goes in our videos! ❤️ Welcome to disc golf by the way 👍
Really solid video 👌
Good video , thought it was going to be shallow clickbait but these were solid pieces of advice
We try to strive away from clickbait. Glad you learned something Stephen! 👍
such a helpful video.. thank you! Love the channel
Thanks Blake! Means so much to know we are helping people get better at disc golf ❤️👍

Thanks for the comment and great insight John! Love hearing from other players about this topic 👍
Same dude, took me years to figure out I need lightweight discs, I stay under 170 except for putters
I feel like I can’t find lighter weight , not a matter of preference or wrong choice here

Great video as always. Looking forward to seeing you on the course throughout the summer!

I mostly agree. The only semi issue I have is about disc weights. Some molds will vary in stability (same plastic/run) because of different weights. A max weight might be more understable than lower weights, making it easier to throw at slower speeds.
I can't think of a single disc that is going to be more understable at a higher weight. The opposite is true

Thanks for the compliment Raider and we appreciate you sharing it with others ❤️👍
I have a "noodle" arm, so when I carry an 12 speed disc (Star Tern), it's 137 gram. Not great in the wind, but it has its uses.
Whatever gets the job done Bill 👍 Throw your throw!
I carry an Infinite discs over the shoulder sling bag so I only play with 11 discs and my putting putter. The disadvantage is losing one sucks more!

Love the comment Brett 😂 the older you get, the harder it is to loosen up those muscles. No wonder I tend to play better on those hotter days 😉

Hahaha, we are guilty of that ourselves. Usually why we play more than 1 round lol. Glad to hear you “sometimes” take a few minutes to stretch 🤪

Very true! If you wait too long and think it through too much, you’ll most likely end up missing :p
