  • How to THROW a DISC STRAIGHT & LONG | How to Hyzer Flip
    If you have ever watched pro disc golf, you have probably wondered how they can sometimes throw incredibly straight shots off the tee through tight gaps. You have also probably wondered how they do long-distance shots when they have a lot of room to work with.
    Well, the way they do it is with the Hyzer Flip! Therefore, this video will review everything you need to know about the Hyzer Flip (i.e., what is a hyzer flip, why use a hyzer flip, and how to throw a hyzer flip).

    The Heat is a good disc to learn a hyzer flip. When pulled off it will glide dead straight for a long ways with a slight fade at the end (the glide 6 on full display). Add some more power or throw flat and you have a reliable turnover disc as well. Change release angle to anhyzer add some beef and it's a good roller. A very useful disc to bag.

    I've recently been practicing a lot and have gained some power. A mako3 used to always just fly dead straight for me, but now when I put some power on it it'll start to drift right. It's not from beating them in though, I've got two brand new champion ones. I find I need to put just a little hyzer on it now to get it to go straight. It is a bit finnicky though, because with too much hyzer it'll just hold the angle, but too little and it'll drift right. Practice, practice, practice I guess.

    • @JustDisc
      @JustDisc  3 года назад +2

      Nice to hear you’ve been getting some extra power! Although I recommend the Mako3, I definitely know what you are talking about. It really is a straight flying disc, but if your release is off that day, I would steer clear. Personally, I’ve really been enjoying the King Cobra for straight gaps. It’s a 4-5-0-2. I have a few of them (but only carry 1 at a time) and I’m always amazed at how stable (I.e straight it flies.). Such a good hyzer flip disc since it doesn’t drift off to the right as much as the Mako3. The 2 fade makes you think it will fade, but considering it’s a 4 speed, it balances the flight out. Anyways, just thought I’d let you know! I know you don’t often hear of the King Cobra, but it’s like a slower speed roc with a touch less fade.

    The DX wraith that I bought when I first started playing got completely mashed from me spiking it into the ground over and over and was the first disc I hyzer flipped once I actually learned how to throw. I will always remember my first hyzer flip, 250' dead straight, then it finally flipped a bit more before finally slowing down and coming to the ground. It ended up outside circle 2 long on a hole I had never even gotten pin high before. I actually retired the disc for sentimentality sake, I need to breaking in some pro Wraiths now that I think about it.

    I am very new to disc golf, so please correct me if I am wrong which I very well might be.
    To get a lot of distance with an overstable disc instead of an understable disc, you can use an anhyzer flip. It works the exact same as the hyzer flip, only that you have to lean upwards instead of downwards, and if I am not mistaken, it will start going right, flip up straight, and then go to the left, so pretty much the hyzer flip, just everything is flipped

    • @JustDisc

      Thanks Zach! It’s really based on power and having the right disc. You may want to try using a lighter and/or more understable disc to get a little more flip. You can also try not releasing the disc on such a big hyzer angle so that it requires less force to flip hope. Hope this helps! 👍

    I like the video but my understanding is that absolute max distance drives are thrown on big anyhyzer. also, is there evidence to point to that lighter discs fly farther? I would agree they're often less stable but objective more distance?

    • @JustDisc
      @JustDisc  3 года назад +1

      Hey Josh, thanks! Hopefully we can provide some clarity.
      Absolutely max distance drives are not thrown on an anhyzer. It used to be that way up until sometime in the 80 or 90’s, but it’s now been proven that the hyzer flip is the shot type that gets you maximum distance. That’s why if you watch long distance drives, the guys are always spinning around and releasing on disc on a hyzer angle. They most likely are using a very understable and light weight disc.
      It also makes sense when you try to think about it. A flex shot starts the disc turned over and then fades back. Where as the hyper flip needs to first flip up to flat, then turn, and then fade back if possible.
      As for lighter discs flying farther, it’s true but only to a certain degree. This might help - discgolfmentor.com/heavier-or-lighter-disc-weight-for-distance/
      Thanks for your questions! 👍❤️

Should I take my hyzer flip and point upward? Seems like the pros are point up and to the left when they throw. The disc flies that way for a second and just cuts right.

  • @kevinhoopes5711

    So if you cant match the speed required it wont achieve this right? My light boss does this but my destroyer or nuke I cant get to do it probably because they're heavier and I cant achieve a 12 speed correct?

    • @Dexecute.
      @Dexecute. 3 года назад

      It's mostly based on the stability, not the speed.

    • @JustDisc
      @JustDisc  3 года назад +1

      You are correct! Any disc can flip-up, but it’s just dependant on the speed, angle of release, stability and weight of the discs. For instance, pros can flip up overstable discs like beaten-in destroyers, but a player with a lesser arm speed would have trouble.
      Therefore any player can do a hyzer flip (even if they have a slow arm speed), but they would need a more understable disc that’s probably at a lighter weight.
      Hope this helps!

    • @JustDisc
      @JustDisc  3 года назад +1

      Very good question! A disc doesn’t actually need any turn to be able to flip over/turn over. If more power is exerted to the disc (i.e higher than the 5 speed it’s meant for), the disc will definitely start to turn. Especially considering that this disc has almost no fade. Hope this helps!

    Why throw a hyzerflip with an understable disc when you can throw a stable disc flat?

    • @JustDisc
      @JustDisc  Год назад +2

      Very good question! It’s actually a lot harder to throw a disc flat than it is to throw it on a hyzer and have it flip up.
      Hyzer flipping allows you to put power into the disc while maintaining a straight flight. Where as, trying to throw a disc straight with some power will almost always result in inaccurate shots and/or the disc turning over too much
