I was struggleing with my drives early on this year and decided to make a small change to my grip and it has helped me so much. I used to have a very "standard" powergrip where the rim of the disc would would be snugg right inbetween my thumb and index finger. Then I made a small adjustment so now if you imagine putting your thumb and pinky together, then you follow that crease up and between your middle and index finger, and from there wrap your fingers around the rim. I don't know why but doing this I found it much easier to control my angle...
Momentum is HUGE! It’s still a work in progress for me. Weight transfer. Spinning those hips and turning on my weight on the brace heel. It’s hard. So many things to think of. PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE
Definitely why we love the game! If you put in the time, most of those things just become second nature. Then all your left with is visualizing the shot and executing it!
Yep, and timing all of that properly with just the right amount of effort. Looks simple (when someone like McBeth does it), but in reality is very hard.
Probably the most concise definition of "nose down" I've ever heard. Thank you. "Nose down" means "parallel to ground". Is this true with throwing on slopes, whether uphill or down? Great video, new subscriber well-earned!
Thanks so much John! We love hearing comments like this! ❤ Thanks for subscribing and joining the community 👍 If throwing uphill or downhill, you do have to adjust the nose angle more towards the intended target. Just keep in mind that throwing nose-down downhill makes the disc fly faster and more understandable, and vice versa uphill. Hope this helps!
Not necessarily parallel to the ground, no. Whenever you throw you visualize an intended flight path. Imagine that flight path as a piece of string stretching from the position your disc has when you release it to its landing spot. If you extend that string backwards in a smooth line you will end up with a good path for your disc to follow as you throw it. If the nose of your disc, AND the tail of your disc (or really your entire disc) follows exactly along that piece of string as you release it, you're aiming it correctly. If the nose is above that piece of string, or the tail is below it, you have a nose up situation. You can still be aiming too high by visualizing a string pointing to steeply upwards, but as long as your disc points in the direction of your intended flight path it's not a matter of nose up.
@@JustDisc what about wind? I know the underside of the disc is never supposed to be exposed to the wind, and wonder what to do if I have to throw in a headwind or cross wind
This has been a known problem for me for so long, but I never knew how to fix it. Thanks for the great tips and practical ways to make an improvement. :)
Im very sorry Tom! It’s nice to know I have awesome subscribers like you who can’t wait for the next upload 👍❤️ Where would I be without you guys?! Ulnar deviation (Pretty soon disc golf is going to follow ball golf in terminology). Bryson DeChambeau does something similar to keep the golf club on plane. To keep the disc on plane...seems like you need something similar.
I like how you said the disc will stay in the air by itself. I always throw upwards. I'm gonna start looking straight ahead or slightly down and out to try to keep the nose down. Once you achieve nose down, will your discs seem more understable?
Hey! Finally a good RUclips recommendation! And now a corny joke: I don't know about "just" disc...I think there might need to be baskets too! But for real, nice video, good tips, thanks!
Glad we can help! ❤️ Nose angle is one of the most important factors on how the disc is going to fly. Really try to remember “poring the coffee” and it should make a BIG difference!
I only began throwing bh 3 months ago after injuring my elbow over throwing forehands. Went from max 180ft (24.38 m) backhand at the start to yesterday parking at 376 ft (114.6 m) hole. Fix nose angle first, then work on getting your legs and hips through your shot. I'm a big guy and know as my form continues to get better, I should easily touch 450ft (137.16 m) but like most things in life, practice and a helping hand go a long way.
@@dank6129 thanks for the tips, I'm not a very big guy (I'm 14 yo and about 5'2"/158cm) and I have been throwing backhand for just under a month so I have a lot of room to improve and I appreciate tips :)

@@elitaube3273 I know right?! We are always concentrating on power, the x step and the pull through, but all of that is useless if you don’t have the nose angled the right way!
this is alot like bowling. when i first started i wasnt hitting where i wanted because the ball has hook and if you try and force it, you will get alot more hook and mess up. you have to trust the ball (or disc) to do its thing and that helps you be more consistent with your game. thats what im trying to do with disc golf right now
Been playing for only 9 weeks and always had major issues with nose angle going sky high. This past weekend I made the adjustment and can throw all my discs I plan to chuck pretty flat and they can go 200-230 or so. Still working on form, and will be for awhile
Hmm... Here's hoping this works. Because even my drives are standstill. My aims, lineups, and follow-through all don't match. Only 2% of my shots behave as they're supposed to and even then, I don't get it. They wind up OB. My stomping grounds are Willow Creek, Lamar, Colorado. It's a challenge.
There is a woman in your videos that has a really unique throw… arms fairly straight. I’d love a video on that style, as I think it might help my wife’s throw
I have tried fixing my nose angle with the pouring the coffee technique, but that results in all of my throws coming out on a hyzer angle. What could I be doing wrong?
There could be a few reasons actually. You could always send us a quick clip to our email? And then we could have a better idea. One thing that comes to mind is your upper body. Remember that your upper body is what creates the angles. Make sure you aren’t hunched over when you are releasing the disc! Hope it helps 👍
I know all of these tips and even my friend (throwing over 130m) is telling that my technique is pretty good… but im still struggling to throw 100m consistently:( guess I just need to keep training
Sometimes it’s just working on timing and rhythm. The big mistake most people make is concentrating on the reach back/power, and now t on the timing/smoothness of their throw
I make my wrist almost uncomfortably nose down and I can’t get it right still. Been playing for 2 years And I feel like others catch on so much quicker. I’ve been an athlete my whole life and it’s frustrating. I just wanna get it nailed down and throw further than 330ft lol it’s discouraging for sure. Very rarely i get it right.
Honestly, it’s something you just have to accept that you’ll get better with over time (i.e the fine motor skills takes time to develop) 👍 At the same time, you have to remember that releasing the correct nose-angle is a continuous battle that all disc golfers face, even the professionals. Think of it like a golfer trying to shape a shot, or even hit it straight… You don’t always get it perfect, but you can get pretty close!
The grip segment is misleading imo. I've been taught a proper power grip which keeps the wrist flat and nose down. When you force the wrist flat it goes back to nose up when you reaching back/pulling through ect.
Course shots at Paris ontario 👀 my favourite local course!
Yes! Do you play there often?

High front angle above 30° is an air brake. Use it as needed. But for distance, a 10 degree angle up is plenty. Less if in the wind.

Yes! Depending on the disc, it should fly farther, straighter, and sometimes to the right (RHBH). That's how you get the full flight out of the disc
