"Direct Drive" has become somewhat of a buzzword within the Sim Racing industry in recent years as we've seen wheelbase technology come in leaps and bounds. What was once a complex and convoluted technology reserved only for those with deep pockets and high levels of patience is becoming more and more accessible to the everyday sim racer.
So today we take a look at the VRS DirectForce Pro, a Direct Drive sim racing wheelbase that takes a well-established technology and makes it available at an affordable price without the steep learning curve, making it one of the best value-for-money direct drive wheelbases for sim racers on a tighter budget.
We take the VRS DirectForce Pro for a drive in iRacing, Assetto Corsa, Assetto Corsa Competizione, F1 2020, Automobilista 2 and Dirt Rally 2.0 to see how it stacks up against the Fanatec DD1, DD2, Ssimucube 2 Sport, Pro and Ultimate and Simagic M10 we've previously tested.

UPDATED REVIEW VIDEO AVAILABLE HERE: ruclips.net/video/vZL4MPG3fkQ/видео.html
Just wanted to let you know your link redirects to the same video
A quick note on the filters. We’ve just been informed that currently the Friction and Inertia filters are non functional. As I was making other adjustments simultaneously, this must have fooled me into thinking they were also making a difference when in fact the difference was made by adjusting the smoothness and damper.
We will revisit and test again once these filters have been properly implemented. We’re told Static Force Reduction will be coming too.
Same, there is no driver updates for the VRS which is a bit disappointed as a current user
Well damn that's funny
@@marcowong1436 that's not good to not even inform people I don't like that but fnaatec took a while to get out even beta drivers so it should be soon man 4 months seems about right for the 1st beta mabye they aren't doing a beta and will do an actual complete update then believe me the wait will be worth it lol
Over 7 months still no filters added
VRS just updated the firmware earlier this week which activates all the sliders and now includes static force reduction! Hope to hear your thoughts and possibly share your setup now that there is added functionality Will.
Just as info for anyone thinking of buying this DD wheelbase. It is awesome. Period. VRS just released new firmware that addresses everything Will points out in the video. All the sliders now work and static force reduction is included and customizable.
How can it be customised?
Which rim(s) did you buy to go with it and where did you buy them from?
@@UserUser-tx2dd yes
@@ecmhoops you can use any USB type wheel. I myself have a simagic gt4 but hoping for a GSI one in the future
@@regachom1 Hmm this seems like a good buy for me because I don't really like the Fanatec ecosystem. But I'd have to get a big rig for it. Hmmm.
Uh, oh.....Will is starting to get into "Barry" territory with the length of his videos.
HAHA! I usually try to keep my videos to around half an hour but this one needed more time to really get into all the details we think potential buyers will want to know.
The longer the better for me gives me something to do in lockdown here in the uk
@@thio_2462 Stay safe mate. Glad the content is helping pass the time. Thanks for doing your bit to keep everyone safe :)
Will. Please keep making the SRG type content. Its great and very relevant. I have asked you to do this kind of thing for a while now and with your knowledge, its great!!!
Hey Will, what would be the best way to purchase this in Australia? Would you recommend just waiting for them to setup distribution to Aus or just order through the website and get another power cable for it?
Great review thanks mate!!
I've had one for about 9 months and love it. I've had no issues and love the way it feels.
You deserve so many more subscribers. Your attention to detail and the way you explain things is exceptional.
Thanks Shane. Takes time mate. We’ll get there
THANK YOU! I have been trying to find a detailed review that compares this base to the Simucube and Fanatec offerings and this was exactly what I was looking for. Excellent detail and content and look forward to more of your reviews. I'll be ordering one of these bases shortly.
Have a look at the Alpha from Simagic as well..
did you purchase?
Have had my VRS wheel for a few months now. Love it .
I run all settings at zero and 50% strength in the VRS software with some dampening within iRacing to add that 'rubber meets the road' feel.
Static force reduction is my favourite setting - good call on suggesting they add it.
I’ve had mine for about 6 months and coming from a Thrustmaster T300 for me it has been a game-changer. It’s smooth, strong, responsive and super simple to setup! Can’t wait for the pedals now :)
Ah man I'm on a t300 now, have been for a few years. I'm thinking this is my DD wheel upgrade after watching this video.
Glad to hear, I'm on the very same path.. T300 now and VRS on it's way !
@@yellowflash111 do it! you won't regret it. Had mine since aug, zero complaints.
Update: I just ordered it, should be here in a few days I'm super excited!
@@yellowflash111 how's it going so far? Assuming everything went smooth with your order?
I love mine. Have found low price rims that work. Plus, Sim Racing Machines offers a Fanatec adapter that is wheelbase side. I just bought one and it's on the way.
Got some examples of rims for me ?
Glad to see more coverage of this unit! Great video Will!
i got my VRS direct force pro 2 days ago. still adjusting, but can definitely recommend it for anyone who is thinking about getting into direct drive. its amazing
Great review! I have had one for 2 months and love how user friendly it is. Also my wheels are Fanatec wheels converted to USB from Sim Racing Machines.
Hey mate did you have to buy USB extension cords, the leads don’t seem very long
Ive owned one for 6 months and it's the best purchase ive made. The devs are great and the DFP is a fucking BEAST.
Is it well supported in games?
@@henrik1743 Yea, works well in every game I've used it in. If you have any issues the devs are on discord and answer questions very quickly. Great product and company all around IMO.
Now after they added Static Force Reduction its so amazing. Just the "perfect" wheelbase in terms of price to performance
y
what settings are you running on static force reduction since Will didnt cover it ?
Thank god people like you exist! xx
Thank you Guy s great job,got my direct drive pro for a week and i m very impressed very happy.
Great work guys.. This level of detailed information has been especially useful for me.. Thanks.. I will get my order in ASAP..
I’ve just realized how much Tom looks like Strop from the Paul Hogan Show 🤣
Will. Please keep making the SRG type content. Its great and very relevant. I have asked you to do this kind of thing for a while now and with your knowledge, its great!!!
1hr of great Video content, i´m hyped
Thanks heaps! Got a CSW 2.5 two months ago and now I want this! You bastard! :D
That's about how long it took me to upgrade.
Great review. Looking forward to more like this that compare the gear being reviewed with others and that put it in context with regards to price and use in different sims. As much as I like SRG’s “clinical” reviews I like this more holistic approach even better. You and Barry complement each other nicely.
Would love to see you review the Accuforce.
Really enjoying this 2 person analysis Will! very entertaining...
Excellent review Will and glad to see the DFP is getting more coverage...I've been saying since I got mine in July: even if it's not "better" than the Simucube Pro or Ultimate, it's most definitely the best DD on the market by far when talking about price to performance. I don't think the price comparison comment between the DFP and the DD1 in terms of wheel choices was exactly fair: the DD1 is $1199 and comes without a mounting bracket, compared to the DFP + Hub adapter (i.e. no mounting bracket) is $849...a $350 price difference and that's an apples to apples comparison. You can find wheels of similar quality to the McLaren GT3 for around the same price (speaking from experience with the McLaren GT3 rim as I came from 3 years in the Fanatec ecosystem before this)...so still about $300 in savings...not to mention the Mige motor is a proven workhorse and Fanatec products have broken down on me more times than I'd care to recall and the customer service is not amazing...Fanatec does have some redeeming qualities, but long term the VRS seems like the smarter choice in that price range.
man if you have guide for cheaper wheels with gt3 style I would be happy
Great review. Great channel. I have owned the Accuforce v2 and was overwhelmed with the software and sold it. I want to enter the DD world again and had thought SC2 Pro, but at a percentage of the cost of a SC2 Pro and performance you described I feel this may be it. Love the simplicity of the software. I already own wheels and qr system so good there. So for $600 less than the Pro and 90% of the performance, i think you made up my mind.
Was cool how you had the other guy to help with the review. Helps to have someone else add ot the discussion sometimes.
He've got a friend, winter, spring, summer or fall.
RE: affordable wheel rim options, VRS even made a guide with some recommendations which can be found on their website. The Polsimer and SRC wheels seem popular.
Look into derekspearedesign wheels. I found the Bluetooth is laggy but when connected to USB you get more functions especially with the 7 way funky switch. And their support is amazing
Got one and made my wheel and quick release system. Works great. Not any faster but enjoying the immersion more for sure. Not a fan of the iRacing FFB at all so running irFFB for wheel slip and Sop adjustments. Much more exciting.
I’ve got a vrs dfp, have built 2 wheels on my own to keep the cost down. Super happy with the wheelbase :)
Hi Peter, do you have any resources to look at to build your own wheels? I am considering the VRS DFP, but I am a bit puzzled about how to adapt wheel and still trying to figure it out.
@@885wc look at Turn racing discord, alot of diy resources there. And of course yt. If you have a 3d-printer it is easier.
@@peterekenkrantz2929 I actually have access to all sorts of Polymer Sheets and CNC facilities at work (we manufacture the stuff) so I should be able to get some machining time for a personal project without too much issue. Thanks for the resource suggestion man.
Hi, can you re-review this? They've added Static Force reduction, Slew Rate, bump stop adjustments
This is a very good and accurate review covering extensively pretty much all aspects. I'm considering this wheelbase as my next buy and find your review so much of help. Thanks.
PS: it's really cute to see you working together with your brother.
PPS: I too have been long thinking of a monitor with the notch for the wheelbase 😂😉
Ahhhh so Tom's an ACC guy. Got good taste and the hair.
Seriously fella's great review on this base.
Great review Will. I use a 3D printed wheel and spacer on mine, works great and kept my wheel cost down under $100.
Any more detail on how you accomplished this?
Possible link to the stl?
I've had mine since July. Was totally worth waiting on over fanatec. Lot less stress. Also if you reverse the mounting bracket it bolts right up to simlabs mount.
Great review, covered the lot. Comparing to mortal DD motors (the Fanatec DDS1) is a good call too.
and here we are in 2023! can’t believe we actually made it. 🙃 it would be great if you could revisit the entire system - the base, wheel and pedals.
Thank you both! Really great and helpful review.
Got my VRS DFP a few weeks ago. Upgrading from a Fanatec CSL Elite. Never thought the difference would be that extreme. Best buy ever. I especially like the slim software. No tweaking, but pure driving!
Just ordered this!! So excited. Coming from a Simagic m10 which has been great, but after racing (on average) 2hrs a day for the last 6 months with it: I'm really noticing some oddities. The wheel hasn't changed, mind you. It's still what it is and a great value, but as I've gotten used to the apparent forces that it replicates, I start to notice the forces that should be there, but aren't, or that the apparent forces are a bit off. It's hard to explain.
Hi there! Could you please share your opinion on the vrs and if it performs better than the m10?
very detailed well done guys!
Thanks for another great review :)
Fantastic Video, when you do the update, can you also talk about rims and how to adapt them or determine compatibility with the drive? The more I look at this and the Simucube2 Pro, the more I realise that these two are probably the best value in the world of SIM racing at the moment. The new CSL DD notwithstanding.
@1:00:03 you're talking about "static forces" for the force in corners. In ACC this is adjusted with the setting "Dynamic Damping" in the Options->Controls under FFB settings. Lower the Dynamic Damping and you are lowering the cornering force and high speed force working against you rotating the wheel.
Just some intel: I rec’d mine a few weeks ago and it shipped with a euro plug so be prepared to either cut the plug and install an Aussie one or buy a cheap adapter
Ps great review mate, great info!
awesome review ! The wire coming from the wheel. Where does that plug in ? Thanks again Will.
It will be a USB plug and plug into your computer.
What an awesome review! This is the wheel I'm going to go with once I retire the T300.
Me 2 !! Well stick between this and Simcube alpha
Hey Will, again a great review from you, great respect for your decent effort! One question, would you like to review the Simagic Alpha base? It uses servo motor with 15nm torque and lying almost the same price segment as VRS DFP, I'm very interested at these both bases.
would be awesome for you to make an updated video on the software!
EMI shielding... That is the top concern in my mind.
Thanks Will for showing where VRS addressed it.
Covered at length in the video. We had no issues whatsoever with EMI, but in fairness we've never had any issues with EMI on any other products we've tested either so we may jsut be lucky. Nevertheless it seems they've taken all the necessary steps to avoid it.
@@boostedmedia Thanks. When I started watching, I made that comment a bit prematurely. When I looked at VRS's website, I didn't see anything about EMI prevention. That was one of my biggest concerns with an OSW and other similar Direct drive wheels. Thanks again for pointing it out. This is an awesome indepth review.
@@wwjnz9263 I'm running mine for about 7 months now in the midst of other electronic devices and so far haven't encountered an EMI issue. The cables are shielded, the connectors are metal and the Box is grounded via your outlet. I assume it runs all the way through the cables to the motor and encoder.
@@christophschultze9690 Good to know. The wheel really sounds impressive for the money spent.
U are the best, happy viewer from spain
Came for the review, stayed for the liquid funk
This is really nice how Barry really tears down the hardware while you try to spend more time in the software.
Thanks!
Just got my VRS DFP wheel. I am loving it and I'm using my Thrustmaster wheels that I got the conversion kits from SRC (SIM RACING COACH).
Can the thrumaster rims handle the power? I would have to convert three wheels
@@lukebraddford3287 yes, they can handle it just fine. The only ones that SRC can't convert over are the og F1 wheel, as of now the new F1 wheel, and the Ferrari 488 wheel.
How how has no one mentioned that transition to the VRS website 😳😍 20:20
Haha that turned out better than expected
Awesome job!! Little disappointed you guys didn't take a few mins to research the SRM adapter for fanatec wheels or the SRC adapter for Thrustmaster wheels. both approx $100 u.s This not only broadens you wheel choices ten fold.. when you factor in places like Acelith who make replaceable face plates for existing wheels, you can customize even more. This definitely changes cost vs Fanatec dd1/dd2 and ecosystem.
Otherwise again great job. Love my VRS wheel and highly reccomend.
We mentioned there are adaptors available. I don’t generally elaborate on products I haven’t personally tested as it’s a slippery slope.
@@boostedmedia fair enough
Great info! Do you run any DD wheels with IRFFB or is it unnecessary? Thanks!
Still waiting on the openFFboard !
Oh wow absolutely my favorite wheel rim on the market lol I'm sure you love it also lol
Just bought a ts pc about a year ago, that was 1000 Canadian, thanks Will, thanks
Yikes.
@@slackerZ1 yaaa covid
Thx for a great review!! Do you know what the slew rate is on the VRS Direct Force?
Not sure sorry.
You guys rock nice review
what's the cost to get it into Oz. also it would be good to see a comparison with the accuforce. thanks guys. you are the best
Loved the review, just picked one of these up myself actually about a month ago. Honestly i was most confused about the wheel/button box compatibility as a DD newcomer. Is your wheel connected wirelessly even with the VRS DFP? Would love to ditch the USB cable off my button box somehow through bluetooth or whatever.
As far as I know your only option is the GT3 wireless wheel from precision sim engineering. All others use some sort of proprietary tech and are compatible with their respective platforms only.
Yes the VRS has no provision for internal connection so any wheel you use will have to have a direct connection to the PC unlike Simucube/Fanatec/Simagic
I use the fanatec formula v2 wheel with the upgraded paddles and the srm adapter 👍
Great review its on my list of possibilities for a DD
Hopefully you've waited to get a DD wheel! The CSL DD is right around the corner!
@@christopheroconnor4665, the CSL DD wheel is aiming to be a mid-level offering though, is it not? This seems more targeted at the Podium series, Accuforce, et al.
@@christopheroconnor4665 I Have Purchased a Simucube 2 Pro with Cube Controls GT Wheel
Hey Will, any chance of doing a review / how to convert the Fanatec wheels for OSWbases ? Most recent guide I can find is Sim Racing Paddock's from 2018. Love my Porsche 918 RSR wheel and would like alternates to DD1
Nice video Will and Tom! You said that a lot of wheels you would buy for this wheelbase are expensive compared to the Fanatec wheels, but you can just use wheels from fanatec on this wheelbase right?
Not without an adaptor, and not every wheel is compatible with the aftermarket Fanatec adapter.
I don't know which one to choose, I usually only use iracing. I currently have thrustmaster TX base servo.
VRS DirectForce Pro or SC 2 Pro R2. I've been reading about both for 1 week. The difference in the price is 500 EUR (with accessories and shipping 1400 SC2 Pro vs 900 VRS). If you had the money, which would they buy?
Thanks for your comments
Is the best/only option for Australia to order direct from VRS website? Have you connected it to a TR80/160 rig? I'm guessing that mount that can purchase with it probably isnt the best option with those rigs and I'd be better off getting the front mount adapter from Trak Racer? Currently only using the standard wheel plate with a G29.
I can be the only one who had the thought of
Will "It's tinny look how small that is"
thats what she said lol
Do you have any plans for the sparco evolve gp seat review?
Hey Will, what's the best way to get one of these in Australia? Loved the review mate!!
Australian distribution is being finalised at the moment. Best to contact VRS directly and they can point you in the right direction
Just buy it directly from VRS.
More racing please... Enough product reviews Will
I like/want it but the problem is that doesn't work on WRC at the moment. This is what holding me back to purchase it tbh
Regarding of adjustments of hte filters OTG 29:00. Once you change the slide position you need to click on save button to activate the settings.
Yep. Realised that before we went for a drive but all the same, couldn’t feel any difference without a sim being active like you can with the Simucube. Not that it matters.
@@boostedmedia Great review. Waited for your review since may 2020 when I bought it for myself :D. I think i made a good choince. I never drove a Fanatec DD :)
Great review i really enjoyed it.The Polsimer F74LED Formula Wheel i think would be a great wheel for this base, but cant find any good reviews. (Hint, Hint) Cheers Mate
Thanks. We’ll look into it :)
I have exactly this, I can say its wonderfull.
Got the VRS DFP and use the base with the SRM Fanatec wheelbase side conversion kit what's working like a charm and allows me to keep using my Fanatec wheels that I bought from Fanatec in the past. The hardware, cables and electric box alI materials have this high quality feel and look. Coming from a CSW 2.5 the feeling in Iracing is wonderfull and cant imagine it can get any better than this feeling of Smoothness, speed and precision. My second most played sim is ACC and I'm not impressed with the VRS. I also like to play rally sims and WRC9, RBR won't work with the VRS and as mentioned by Will to get Dirt Rally2 to work you need to modify the game files. Yes I do love my VRS in Iracing and the potential is there, but I'm thinking of a change to Simucube, or go back to Fanatec just to have a more mature all-round wheelbase with better support across the different sims.
thanks for the info
@@snekbaev you're welcome!
How is it with acc now has it improved or still the same
How is the wheel all working properly is that different software?
I managed to find the simucube 2 for just over 1k the vrs is £850 what do you think is better as an all round wheel and steering wheel compatibility?
I'm still rocking an OSW SC1 with a fanatec adapter. I'm using the BMW GT2 wheel and the formula carbon as well. Makes it super easy, I can use the QR without issue. The entire system honestly works great! I'm feeling a bit of fomo with all of these new DD systems coming out, but I've done a lot of reading and people say even the SC2 stuff is a marginal upgrade if anything.
What’s the wheel mounting system? As someone who’s moving away from a Thrustmaster base, what mount would I need for a new wheel to work with something like VRS?
I'm surprised you haven't gotten your hands on an Accuforce yet. I'd love to know your opinion on it. Hopefully sometime soon.
Spoke to them a long time ago but they didn’t want to send us one to try.
@@boostedmedia I'm not surprised, they don't seem to be very interested in marketing at all. Not sure why.
I have a old obutto ozone, the Mounting Bracket is great solution. (the Fanatec DD's dont have nothing like that) whats the weight of the MiGE Motor?
What's the best Direct Drive between the VRS and the Simucube 2 Pro? Even if there is a big difference between the price of these two
Finally!! Thanks
Mate ts-xe pr csl elite for drift lol??? I know you have commented previously with" "require drift skills" but ur insight from a fellow Aussie is appreciated lol
so fanatec f1 wheel, would it be compatible with all features? i really would like to know cause i’m looking into buying one of these
Out of all the mini mige motors would you recommend the simucube 2 pro will? unfortunately bought a DD1 and two podium hubs and there was play in both hubs in the steering so i am getting a refund and wondering what would be the best mige to get, i can get a simucube 2 pro locally and that is looking like the best option for me.
I’d say if you can get the pro at a decent price then go for it. It’s the best wheelbase on the market in my opinion short of the Ultimate which is just total overkill.
@@boostedmedia Cheers for the reply will, love the channel, i can get the pro for 1200 euro which looks like a good price, looks like the one for me
Hi ! greeting from Chile.
I would like to ask you something.
I am thinking about to buy this base VRS...
I would like to know what adaptor are you using for the wheel you are using, can you share a link please?
I am a bit confused about the adaptor i need to use....
Or if we have some generic adapter for differents steering wheels...??
I will buy this base, but i really need to know something else about the adapter and steering wheels...
Thank you !
How did you attach your wheel, I have a fanatec formula v2 rim what would I need?
Sup bru just watched ur video about oveclocking the i9 9900k, and im going thru an issue, my grafic card keeps being unrecognized, than i turn the overclock off and it comes Back to normality. Do u know how to fix that?
Unrelated to the video, but I have been trying to find best Astro A40 EQ settings. Do you happen to have any resources or able to share your settings? Currently using the presets but I know there is a ton of adjustability. Thanks!
I have a v2.5 - is it a good upgrade and worth the spend?
Hey could you guys ever try it in a dirt sprint or something like that
Question, you mentioned a lot "not having the pedals connected thru the Wheelbase like you had it done in the SC2 Base" can you explain in further detail that in here or in a video? I thought you cannot connect any 3rd party pedals (example heusinkveld pedals) to the SC2 Base, unless only applies to the ultimate base.
SC2 has a port to connect compatible accessories. We covered this in our racewerk S1 Pro review recently.
Nice rig, shame it's not got motion...or has it ?
How were you able to use the Cube GT-X wheel? On their site it shows non compatible
Hello Boosted Media, iam confuse to not understand all english speeks in this video.
Iam a hard player of ACC, i want to Switch csw2.5 to a DD but i find DD1 wasn't si impressive on few hours i test it.
I search the best DD for ACC, did you recommand VRS simucube sport or may be simagic alpha (next ultimate seems good)
Thx you 👌
