    UPDATE: Since we published this review, Cube Controls have now integrated Simhub control with this wheel, meaning you can now control the LED lighting via Telemetry data.

    Good review, but I thoroughly disagree with the spring loaded pins being on the wheel. Theses pins are notoriously prone to damage from people accidentally brushing over them (especially on a formula wheel, nothing protecting your fingers grabbing them bottom of the wheel), dust buildup and wear, it would be so much cheaper to replace the cable rather than sending in your wheel for a repair. Keep up the good vids 👍

      Fair enough. I just said that’s the way I’d do it. I’d still have some kind of recess so they don’t get knocked. Didn’t say it was the right way to do it. You’re absolutely right that it’s easier to replace a cable than a wheel.

      For many or even most people that buy these types of wheels they don't have many wheels so swopping or removing is not a regular thing and for the few that swop out often are clearly aware of what it costs, they would treat it with respect, I feel this is unnecessary nit picking honestly

    • @benjimc1
      @benjimc1 2 года назад +1

      @@Kevin-vg5uw Most likely you would have an 80/20 rig or similar if using this wheel with some magnetic bracket you can easily just attach the connector to that when not in use to protect the pins if it's being used for charging only. Otherwise it's likely gonna be attached at all times anyway.

    Hmm having heard enough woes about older Cube steering wheels I hope the improvements here make it a genuine contender in the more premium market - though I know a guy who'd probably beat me over the head for daring to look at something other than the Ascher F64 and say I like the ergonomics here better 😅
    Anyways, thanks for the review Will, appreciate the continued dedication to checking out the new hardware coming to market and looking forward to what comes next!

    Well done Will! As countless others have already mentioned, your reviews are honest and insightful! I was thinking about getting this wheel rim along with the Simucube 2 Pro once I upgrade to a DD system. I was initially concerned about the responsiveness (lag) of the bluetooth wireless aspect, but you allayed any fears and now I feel more comfortable with making this purchase. Keep up the awesome work man! The time and effort you put into these reviews are well worth it! Cheers!

    Overall, I like the wheel. The only thing I really don't like is how loud the shifters are. I agree with you, if you adjust the shifters you have to really tighten them down or they will move while in use. The software needs much work, but this can be addressed with update and firmware.

      @@raroxburgh what would you buy in place? are the thumb encoders and rotary encoders bad? I heard they werent great and sometimes sent extra clicks to the game.
      I was considering converting a fanatec 2.5 wheel but it would still come to around $600 total but I would be getting a proven popular wheel. For how much people rave about 'not being tied to an ecosystem' the simucube selection and getting actual value for your money is pretty garbage imo

    • @raroxburgh
      @raroxburgh 2 года назад

      @@kaijuh Hi , Fanatec, GSI, Asher all offer similar options. When it was first released the encoders did have some issues with extra click but they released both software and firmware to help fix that issue. So far, they have been good at pushing out update to the wheel. I had the Fanatec 2.5 with the duel clutch add-on and I really like that wheel. I made the move from Fanatec ecosystem(DD1) to Simucube and I cannot say that its a major difference. Moving to Simucube is for sure more expensive than Fanatec but doing so opens up your options to higher end wheels.

    I use a similar connector on my ebike. It’s always best before you energize the usb lead to make sure the magnetic end doesn’t have any debris. If you put that on the wheel this would mean you have to remove the wheel to make sure the connector is clear of debris instead of just looking at the end of the lead before plugging it in.

  • @Igbon5

    Those Fanatec wheels have a cheap feel to the switches and rotary encoders. Lots of play and cheep feel. One I recently received had two of the knobs split down the middle such that they fell apart in my hands as soon as I turned them.
    Also, seeing as you are pushing Pagnian, I want people who go there to really check the prices. They add between 15 - 20 % or more to Fanatec stuff and just pass your order straight to Fanatec exactly as if you did it yourself. But, having said that, they are really good to deal with. Friendly and knowledgeable.

    • @matta2738
      @matta2738 2 года назад

      Yes pagnian add an excess to their fanatec range, however they don't charge for shipping. Also from what I've seen they don't take pre orders for fanatec, only when in stock at pagnian. Always had same/next day despatch.

    • @DriftNick
      @DriftNick 2 года назад +2

      @@matta2738 Free shipping but you pay way more for the items, they are a huge ripoff, they were selling the CSW 2.5 for more then a CSL DD from fanatec.

    • @Igbon5
      @Igbon5 2 года назад +1

      . @@matta2738 Incorrect. They don't have Fanatec stock. They order for you from Fanatec and you will get it exactly as if you ordered it from Fanatec yourself.
      Also, shipping is a very small part of the actual markup figures.
      Example. CSL DD 8nm Boost bundle.
      Fanatec $829, Pagnian. $999. $170 more. Shipping is about 22 dollars.
      Clubsport Formula v2.5 wheel.
      Fanatec $559, Pagnian $649. $90 more. Again shipping is sfa.
      V3 Pedals.
      Fanatec $550. Pagnian, $630. Difference, $80. Shipping, 20 odd.
      and last but not least of what I bought,
      Brake performance kit,
      Fanatec $50. Pagnian, $79. $29 dollars more. nearly 60% markup. Yes shipping is a cost there, but claiming 'free' shipping is a lie.
      And, I know for a fact that they do not stock Fanatec stuff as I had a long conversation about it with a guy there who I won't name here. He actually apologized to me for not making such markups clear. And told me that they don't stock Fanatec. It was nearly all pre order.
      And, I ordered stuff directly from Fanatec after I found out and it was all shipped from the same place in Melbourne, at the same time by the same carrier.
      I ordered from them way back before Christmas and all the delays and the con regarding the boost kit bundle brought it to my attention. All the delays Fanatec had were exactly the same delays Pagnian had, because all they do is forward your order to Fanatec and charge hundreds more for the non privilege.
      So, you are very very wrong. However, as I said, they do communicate well and the guy I am talking to, including today is a good guy. He actually thought I should get a discount, but he isn't the boss.
      I paid over 300 dollars for items that came exactly the same as if I had ordered from Fanatec.

This wouldnt do anything but trigger a warning error message to pop up overtop of everything on screen displayed by the pc telling you Over Current protection was triggered ect ect. This comes into play when installing mother boards into cases often, people will accidentally catch one of the IO covers metal flaps and cause it to be down into the usb port, again triggering protections or possibly causing a boot loop on first post in the event its the "bios" labeled usb slot.

      Definitely t300.
      Don’t be sold on the fact the t248 is newer, the t300 is in a class of its own at that price point.
      The t300 is solely belt driven as opposed to the combination of geared and belt system of the t248, in a world of direct drive a belt driven wheel should probably be the bare minimum you should go for.
      Also, the t248 isn’t part of a modular system, you can’t swap rims like you can with the t300, I’ve owned a t300 with the TM Open Wheel add on and it was fantastic.

      Thanks
      I had receive my wheel several days ago and had a chance to set it up. I’m a bit disappointed with two things.
      1. Bite point setting is global. Whatever you set it to stays on all time, limiting one clutch paddle to whatever you set the bite point percentage to. This is the biggest let down unfortunately.
      2. You cannot set the encoders to MPS function. Would have been really nice.
      And for bonus round. O.M.G. What dismal software! SMH.

      @@kaijuh I decided to keep it. I found I was able to largely eliminate the problem by using a quality pair of karting gloves (picked Alpine Stars). The grip of the gloves allowed me to reduce how much I have to “squeeze” the wheel. It is a good wheel beyond that and I appreciate the lighted buttons and layout, as well as Bluetooth connection. • @sloth_energy
      @sloth_energy 2 года назад +1

      Simucube have their own proprietary wireless protocol which limits the number of inputs to 28.
      This wheel goes a different route i.e. from wheel to PC via standard bluetooth.
      This also means this wheel is not wedded to Simucube, rather it can be used used with a wider range of wheel bases.

    • @CarterLundy10
      @CarterLundy10 2 года назад

      @@sloth_energy So basically you can map every input in a game and have all the buttons in use rather than having to pick only 28 inputs while you play

    • @sloth_energy

      @@CarterLundy10 Yes (if I understood you correctly).
      Note this wheel has 50 inputs which, although that's plenty, won't be every input in a game because there are sooooo many possibilities.
      For me the big disadvantage of the Simucube wireless protocol isn't the limitation of 28 inputs but rather that you can't have a dual clutch.
      This is a deal breaker with regards to a formula wheel so it's great that Cube Controls have gone the normal bluetooth route.

    Nice wheel, shame it's nearly £1000. I'll keep an eye for it on eBay lol. Buy all my rims from there. Apart from fanatec. That's always new. eBay not a good place to buy fanatec. Last I checked which was a year ago. Pedals new were only £50 more. Got a couple of expensive rims, I've got for little as £400 a pop cos no one that interested. My last was worth 900, paid 390. Practically brand new. 99.9% of people look after SIM racing gear. Just make sure rims are leather and you're good. Higher the value, the more they are looked after. SIM racing can be as cheap or expensive as you like, I like high rolling on a smaller budget. In UK, last few months, been loads of gear on sale.

    Purchased the F-Pro after watching this and some other reviews and am thinking I made a mistake. I am not a fan of the wheel but it is solid and no problems with Bluetooth. They have taking a few of your suggestions on re software but its so lacking.....it would be great if you could save different settings for different cars and big problems with clutch and iRacing ... had to delete all the cfg files to get it working but still no bite point. The thumb encoders are horrible , hard to turn and basically too small and I would nether assign anything critical to these. And getting them into Oz ..well allow another $240 plus cost for Custom fees and GST. To be honest, I think the Fanny Formula wheels are better ... not as solid but on a $ for $ basis they are so far ahead. Just a pity about the DD1 and DD2 Bases. And why the so short USB cable? And I do think the shifters the nosiest I have had
