Hey Dan, thanks for the great review, love the recent focus on affordable gear (plus the active pedals^^) When you say you would like a more high end wheel from Cube Controls, does that mean you already tried the F-Pro and don't like it? Because of the different grips, or is there more to it?
@@DanSuzuki I really like the Cube Control looks, X-29 is the only wheel more beautiful to me. Unfortunately, like you, I like the thumb encoders a lot. So let's hope these GSI guys bring a version with them before I actually have to buy something :D Thanks for the reply!
Hi Dan, Great video. Really in depth look at this wheel and made some talking points which not many others have offered so far. I had a question about the electronics section of the video. I have a spare Podium hub and Podium paddle module, if I was to purchase this wheel with just the shifters, could I remove them and mount the Podium hub straight to the back shell? This would have to be done via opening the wheel first and attaching the hub internally with low profile screws. I've done this once before with a Simagic GT4 USB. Is it easy to get that back piece off and access the rear electronics of the wheel? I don't really want to deal with the little extra length the adapter would have and the Podium Hubs can mount using 50mm PCD. Thanks for the great content!
@Samcar304: I just ordered this wheel, and would be interested, if you ended up mounting it directly to the podium hub without the adapter. The additional length bothers me too, as I will have to adjust my rig, but then my other Fanatec-Wheels will be too far away from me. How do you guys deal with that?!? By the way: you can order this wheel now with upgraded shifters from the F-Pro!
@@TheJuliusFord Nope, I ended up buying a Simucube 2 pro wheelbase and selling all my Fanatec stuff beacause of this issue with the podium hub. Not the cheapest option, but very effective 😉This solved the issue with the play in the Quick release 1 of Fanatec too, so no additional costs when / if QR2 is released.
Just got one and had to send it back to Cube because of an internal electrical problem. It would not connect to my pc and it took hours to charge and would not turn on after it was fully charged.
Thanks for this review, I'm looking at wheels now and I think i'd go with the F-pro instead of this. Also, will you make another review of the VX Pro pedals?
I will go with this rim as 28 cm is too small and 29 will be perfect and grips is what i look most out of this wheel, comfort for me is No1 ;) and i tried quite a lot wheels including srb v2, omp alu310, and others hogh end wheels
The old cable was very bad. Mine broke twice, I repaired it myself and cube Controls sent a new one. I just wished this one was a 300mm. Maybe it makes no difference from 290
A lot of these formula wheels are too small for GT. Is there a 300mm wheel that is compatible with Fanatec that has all similar functions to this wheel, the Formula v2, etc?
i've been wondering for a while now since i'm saving up for a fanatec dd2 and formula wheel, why would you want to jump into the high end wheel market? is there so much more feel or niceness when comparing a 1500 dollar wheel to a non high end fanatec wheel? i haven't been able to experience DD wheels, or the difference between mid range wheels and high end wheels but from the reviews i find it hard to justify the 3x price over the fanatec formula wheel, it also has thumb encoders, regular front mounted encoders, mag shifters and a plethora of buttons. the only upgrade i see from there is a screen on the wheel, but thats completely useless to me as i race in vr only... not hating here btw, just genuinly curious as to why someone would spend 1500 on a wheel thats maybe slightly better feeling than a 400 dollar wheel. feel free to convince me otherwise
hold a fanatec wheel in your hands, then you know why these are more expensive :) does one really need a high end wheel to have fun? absolutely not! also dont buy a dd2 unless you need console compatibility, basically any (vrs dfp, simucube 2, asetek, simagic) higher end direct drive is better
@@DanSuzuki well i'm still not 100% on the dd2, tho it is a bit more expensive to get a dfp or su2, because i'd also need hubs and wheels. i drive mostly gt3's but also enjoy a bit of drifting and just cruising with a streetcar-style wheel. adding a couple 100 to the overall price. combined with the fact that any current or future fanatec wheel will work with a dd1/2. the fanatec ecosystem speaks to me simply because of compatibility and expansion, is there really such a big gap between the podium wheelbases and other high end DD bases? is it worth it to save up 2-3 more months?
yeah, in my opinion, absolutely worth it! if you like gt3s don't get a 27cm steering wheel btw ... it just feels wrong 😅 even though that is subjective of course! but i absolutely would not buy a dd2 these days.
@@DanSuzuki any brands that offer sub 500 dollar aftermarket wheels then? all i find is 750 or more for a single wheel. i'd be interested in a simucube or an asetek but if it's gonna take 1000 on top just to get the necessary adapters, hubs and 2 wheels then it's getting quite pricey
